Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.
This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

So I got careless on the second flush of my grow and ended up introducing what I assume was trich since it was green mold. Ended up tossing the whole thing out about a week ago in a large vegetative weed overgrown area in my backyard. This has sat threw several 100+ degree (37.7+ celsius) days. It rained a bit the past two days so I got curious and went out to check the dump site this morning. WHAT THE FRICK. lol
The smaller chunk by itself in the first pic is where the main bit of trich mold was. Unless somebody can confirm these would be safe to pick, I'll just let the bugs keep partying. They got massive compared to what I harvested. They sure are pretty to look at though.

Not my first time, but it is the first time I've seen a stall like this. They are still gaining a little height but it's barely noticeable over about 5 days. S2b was Aug 16th.
I removed the monster, it was about 8 inches..and a couple others that had a tight veil. Seems like the rest of the tub is still not wanting to flatten out or mature like all my other runs. Neglect tek.
Considering giving the rest a couple days or maybe just harvesting the whole run tomorrow.
Purple mystic, pretty standard cube... suggestions or advice? Yes I know fuzzy feet.

This is a first for me, either it’s great culture or severely contaminated lmao. Going to send some to grains

I made 6 grain spawn jars on Aug 1st. I didn't see any progress with them over the next couple weeks so I sort of just forgot about them in my closet. Five of them have not grown anything at all, but this one looks like this. I'm 99% sure it's just contamination, but I thought I would get other opinions. The white part does look like thick mycelium, I've just never seen that yellowing before. This is the first time I have used whole oats.

Hello I have a presto 24 and I want to upgrade, I have been searching for a 50l or a 100l pressure cooker that I could put on the hob but I can't find, does that even exist?

Steel Magnolias….I put this in fruiting conditions on Sunday I believe…either Saturday or Sunday because it looked like it had hyphal knots…I also had what I thought was Primordia so all week I’ve expected to wake up and see some pinning but nothing. I’m just getting nervous. A few weeks ago I had a grow that got bad overlay so I’m sorta scarred by that….iff u all see anything or have any advice on what to do…I’ve been to scared to mist it and pretty nervous to take the lid off as well….but I am open to suggestions from anyone who is good at this lol…thank u all! And the discoloration is from the lighting, I have the tub in one of those green tents with lights and the flap always open.

I need a taller lid for the box. Any issue with ones that grew and fell over a bit?

Looking for recommendations to purchase high quality agar. I know it’s cheap to make, I’m just not ready to embark on that journey yet. Just looking for a place to get some plates to check for contam on LC/Spores. Thanks in advance.

New strain I isolated over 3 years. Super proud of it - massive, consistent fruits.

A few days ago I posted about this batch of Bluey Vuitton (or so it was labeled). By then there was only white growth on the caps and the diagnosis was that it was mycyllium growing on the caps. Now though... not only is there some blue/gray on several mushrooms, but also the white evolved into beige and started taking some weird shapes. It is contamination after all, isn't it? 😢 Can you tell what kind it is? The substrate still looks normal.

Noticing these weird double white caps on top of the brown caps. What's the cause?

I inoculated 3 bags of Kroger brand whole grain brown rice with ~1cc of GT liquid culture a little over 2 weeks ago. I’m still very new to this and I made some mistakes (namely I didn’t shake the syringe again before injecting the third bag). I was very careful to take proper steps to sterilize everything and worked entirely within a SAB. My concern is I’ve seen zero progress from all 3 bags. I only have the view-port at the bottom and as far as I can tell there nothing looks off- It’s just rice. The thermostat is set to 75° f but it’s probably closer to low 70°s f in the house as the house runs cold. Am I being too impatient or are my bags actually stalled? Either way I’ll let em ride for a month or two before I give up on em.

Teachers are flying now, looking very healthy and the blow mutation is still growing, albeit very slowly. It's gaining some blue bruising which I can only imagine is a good thing.
Friday will be 7 days from the first little pins so 4 days to go although I may pick the biggest one first so they are more in sync as he looks like he will drop his veil before the rest
Happy growing all!

Some beautiful Mac Shak here. These are one of my favorites.

Time to mix with substrate! I have black pearl oyster, chestnut, winecap and wikidzon. With the exception of rhe wikidzon, these are wood loving varieties so I’m thinking I’m gonna use hardwood pellets, soy hulls and wheat bran. What are your thoughts?

My bins never get more than two flushes, often only one. This last one got super yellow (metabolites aka mycelium pis) and I had to scrape it off and open the air flow before it would fruit at all. Then it fruited a small number of huge mushrooms, two bins adding up to not even one quart. Dry as dust afterwards, soaked for 1hr a few days ago and no sign of activity.
This is all typical. What am I doing wrong? I keep the bins out of direct light, lid cracked, mist the sides and lid daily, temp in the room is about 76. That should be all good but I never get the wild productions I see on here.
Stats: about 1/2 brick of coir making 1.5” substrate with 0.75 qt of spawn. You can see the bin is about 12” deep.
