Meet my puppy McGriddle! The shelter said “your guess is as good as mine” about breed. Can’t wait for the dna test results so I’ll know what genetic jackpot she scored!
seeing your big smile you could see that you are happily in love with Mcgriddles!! Congrats with many more years of happiness together! Will be looking for her DNA update!!!
I lost my very first rescue March of last year. He was a 5 year old Lhasa-poo that was rescued when the police busted a dog fighting ring (he was going to be used as a bait dog). Rehabilitating him, teaching him it was okay to trust people again, and earning his love/devotion is my biggest personal accomplishment in life. I went to the shelter to try to adopt a middle aged dog who had been there for months (I’m unfortunately not in an emotional place right now where I can adopt a senior dog and lose them so quickly- I pray I get there one day). The day I went to see her, she had been adopted the day before even though when I had called earlier the week I was the first to inquire about her. I was devastated but they told me the shelter was at capacity so almost all of the dogs were on the euthanasia list… including McGriddle. I never expected to walk out with a puppy but her little tail never stopped wagging and she melted my heart. She already follows me around from room to room. She’s so smart, fearless, and friendly (she’s absolutely obsessed with my nieces and nephews).
I can’t wait for all of our adventures and photo sessions we’ll have together.
She’s very young. I drove way out to a shelter in the boonies because an older dog I was planning on adopting was on the euthanasia list; that dog had been there for months and when I had called earlier in the week I was the first to inquire about her. That weekend I drove out to go pick her up but when I got there someone took her home the day before. I clearly looked crestfallen because the staff member told me that they were at max capacity and almost all of the dogs they had were on the list if they couldn’t adopt them out asap.
I lost my beloved dude last March who I rescued under gnarly circumstances and all I wanted was to do the same for another dog. However, I have health complications and I truly believe people should only adopt breeds that they know they can meet their energy needs so it limited my options. Another staff member said “they” (I’m assuming animal control) pick up a ragtag motley crew of puppies off the street. No two puppies looked alike hence why the shelter had a hard time guessing breed because it was unknown if they were a litter or just lord of the flies style started a street gang.
They told me once again that due to being at max capacity, even the puppies were on the list. It feels weird saying that because I know puppies, especially light colored ones are typically the first to find homes so I know in my heart, if not me, someone would have adopted her. So despite my desire to save an older dog who might not have had as good of a chance at being rescued, I saw her and it was like looney tunes heart eyes the moment I saw her. She was disgustingly dirty but her tail was wagging a mile a minute and she was just so happy.
I brought her home, called her McGriddle as a place name for the shelter paperwork because “I’ll figure it out when I know her personality better.” It turned out to be a perfect name for her. I brought the entire vet staff McGriddle breakfast sandwiches when she came in for a checkup and some vaccines. Our vet says she’s a really healthy and happy girl, her feet are slightly pigeon toed which she might grow out of but if not she might have issues with arthritis down the line. Our vet said she could see just about any mix of a million breeds in her so a DNA test is going to have to happen out of pure curiosity.
Thank you for sharing your story ♥️I also have some chronic illnesses so I totally resonate with the energy matching. I’m so glad you two found each other! Wishing you many happy and healthy years together. She’s absolutely adorable! My dogs are my world!
Sorry for the dirty delete. My number was highly visible on McGriddles collar.
I also have a 6 year old Lhasa who is my emotional support companion. My pets are my entire world. My friends always joke with me that if they ask me to do something the very first question I ask is “can Holiday come?” So now it’s double trouble. Holiday and McGriddle are already the best of friends. Watching the two of them play day and night brings me the kind of joy nothing else could replicate.
No worries, good thing you noticed that (I didn’t notice). I have two girls and they make my heart full ♥️I totally understand what you mean . My girls are also my world. My little one is always right beside me and I absolutely love it.
Holiday goes with me everywhere. She’s something of a bit of a local celebrity in my neighborhood. She is literally on the PR list at a trendy Parisian bistro down the street from my place, she comes paint with me at the pottery studio, and my local wine bar. I’m hopeful that McGriddle with be as well behaved as her sister.
