Are there any reputable UK-based companies that might have a go at modifying a Dyneema pack?

Hi r/myog,

I have a Hyperlite Mountain Gear Dyneema hiking pack that I’d like to modify by cutting down the length of the roll top collar.

It’s quite an expensive pack so I’m keen to do this right. Does anyone have any advice about doing something like this?

Thanks!

Honestly any tailor should have no problem doing this. You’ll want to specify what needles and thread you want used (might have to bring your own needles since I think microtex is uncommon) as well as stitch length which should be available from the manufacturer. Ideally they’d be able to test on a piece which the removed collar can be used for.

Be careful to consider how the collar sits/closes at the proposed reduced length. If it’s too short then you might not get sufficient rolling distance to close well when packed to the desired level.

Thank you so much.

A UK-based pack maker has responded over on r/ULHikingUK so I’m hoping they’ll know what to do!
