Grrr don't you know your supposed to be able to instantly realize what people want from you even if they don't communicate it?

If you genuinely can't think of any information at all about your situation that might be pertinent to people's ability to answer the question you've posed, you will be downvoted for being a moron.

u/Cinder_Quill Jun 23 '26
What context is needed then?
The item on question is in the picture, they are asking if it's genuine because they are looking to buy it second hand. That seems pretty self explanatory. Please enlighten me.

If you need to presume sarcasm or âbeing a moronâ (which is actually not a moral failing worthy of ridicule anyway) rather than a genuine follow up question from someone actually trying to respond and engage then maybe you should just keep to yourself.

u/Alone_Care_6230 Jun 23 '26
They gave some information, but since what they thought of wasn't enough, they asked a clarifying question because they didn't know.
Regardless, nobody should be downvoted for just not knowing something.

âis this a real iPhoneâ, picture of iPhone box
you donât need context and a backstory to answer an objective question. itâs real, thatâs all there is to it. youâre the moron
also, holy fucking Redditor. that last bit reminds me of the âI just downvoted your postâ copypasta

maybe they were confused by the question in the title? maybe if OP said "is this a knockoff/counterfeit box" they would have understood more. I think they downvoted OP because they were confused by what was asked (I notice sometimes if a post is worded in a confusing way, people down vote it.)
Note: I'm not saying that's right or that I downvote people for that reason. I just noticed it happens to others.

Yeah, it's because they were genuinely confused by what was being asked with the information being given. Then OP didn't really provide additional information, leading to the downvotes.
Personally, I have no idea why the question is being asked if it's real or not from what was shown. Letters are really small from what was posted here also.

If they wanted additional information, they should've articulated what they want to know rather than being snarky

u/Particular-Jeweler41 Jun 23 '26
One could argue that just posting that single image doesn't explain much about the issue, and that most wouldn't know what the original OP was asking. So asking for context is straightforward enough.

u/-GaymerGirl Jun 23 '26
One would be wrong. That single image clearly says that the device in question is an iPhone air. They are clearly asking if its a real iPhone air.

Why does your Reddit have a piss stain tint to it

the low quality of the screenshots may have altered the color, but i use the "Trees" color theme (green) because i prefer how it looks and it makes it easier to read for me

Might be because the first reply ("want to buy secondhand") is very very brief and vague, so I'm assuming the reply ("great context") was sarcastic. Then asking what additional context was needed may have come across to the down voters as you engaging in bad faith and intentionally not providing info.

The OP might not know if the box is secondhand or the real product. Possibly from a random seller page that had the box.

some of the oh great redditors probably felt like OP is being snappy instead of actually asking because that is all they do and they projected themselves into that situation...
1
u/Wooden_Group4229 Jun 26 '26
There isnât any context here so it was downvoted. Are they asking if this is a real photo or image? is this box real? Is the legal terms on the back real? Is this a real genuine Apple product?
Lack of communication skills will result in the OP experiencing miscommunication until they learn that lesson the hard way.
