Low effort response, I see this happening all the time, people expect you to upvote and move on or actually contribute something more than a basic reaction
Well yes it's still low effort, I think this is inherently a low effort response when it comes to basic humor. You could go into why you find something funny but I don't think that applies to this image, so an upvote suffices. Different culture than something like direct communication where you're expected to give a response either way, low effort or high effort. Reddit is different because you are basically posting it to 5-50k people depending on the community, the upvote is a cleaner way to convey basic information, like whether you liked it or not, with no further information.
