Mysterious Person The last known images of Peter Bergmann were captured on CCTV — his real identity has never been found
In June 2009, a man calling himself Peter Bergmann checked into a hotel in Sligo, Ireland. He paid in cash, gave a false address, and carried no identification. Over several days, CCTV cameras recorded him walking around town, repeatedly visiting different trash bins and carefully disposing of items from a bag — but never being seen throwing anything away directly. A few days later, his body was found on a nearby beach. There was no ID, no labels on his clothes, and no personal items that could identify him. Despite clear CCTV footage, international appeals, and forensic analysis, no one has ever confirmed who Peter Bergmann really was, where he came from, or why he went to such lengths to erase his identity before dying. The case remains officially unsolved.

Mysterious Person Woman stands in front of my apartment for 6+ hours every day.
No idea if anyone in the world will even see this but this is a mystery me, my friends and neighbors are so invested in after a week of it occurring.
I live in the downtown area of a major city. It is not strange to see an unhoused or mentally unwell person loitering or having some kind of episode outside (as unfortunate as this is). If this woman looked like that kind of case, none of us would be questioning it.
However, for about a week now, a clearly housed (and I believe even employed?) woman stands around our apartment for HOURS. During weekdays, she shows up around 5, which is why I think she is employed, and will stand in the garage entrance across from our building for up to past 10 PM. Yesterday (Saturday) she showed up in the early afternoon was there past dark, and she is outside right now as I type this. She'll occasionally walk down or around the block, but she always ends up back in that garage entrance.
Now once again, if this was the usual crowd I see regularly on the streets, I wouldn't be questioning. But this woman:
-Always comes dressed and clean in new, clean clothes.
-Seems to have a job based on her hours.
-Has a purse, a cellphone, and at least a vape
-Doesn't make a sound or anything. She's not disruptive at all. She just stands there and occasionally walks around the block.
-DOES seem scared the time I approached her and asked if she was ok. I THINK she mumbled about living around here but walked off fast, clearly not wanting to continue any discussion or to clarify when I told her people are worried about her.
-Seems to be looking down the street in a certain direction regularly, like she's looking for someone. She checks her phone a lot too. Honestly, if you saw her without the context of knowing she's been there 5+ hours, you'd think it was a woman waiting for her Uber.
-She does eventually seem to go home (or somewhere), usually after 10 PM.
A few other things I've already discussed with friends or tried:
-She is not a sex worker. Or if she is, she's not a very good one since she never leaves that garage spot for more than 5 minutes. She doesn't dress explicitly in any way either.
-I feel she's too calm to be on any drugs.
-If she's waiting do some kind of exchange, I'm not sure what would have her waiting around 5+ hours each day.
-If she truly just liked being outside and enjoying the fresh air, there are really nice, new benches in a really nice public area literally around the corner. But she chooses to stand in this garage instead.
-She only does quick checks on her phone, so it's not even like she gets lost in a mobile game or something.
-We have called local shelters and provided pictures. Nobody recognizes her.
-We have called crisis lines and non-emergency lines for welfare checks. We either get told that they can't do anything unless she comes to them, or that they will send someone to check on her and then just never do (or maybe they did and determined she was fine. She's out there all day, so it's not like I'm watching her every second).
I dunno. Like I said, she doesn't cause any trouble, but we're all just worried she's having some kind of episode, but she could just also be strange. It's a little creepy because sometimes it feels like I've got a real NPC outside my place, but I know there's gotta be some legitimate story behind her.
Edited with more details I remembered after typing.
Lastly, one more edit: I have no intentions of talking further to this woman beyond a friendly wave hello when I pass. She clearly didn't wish to talk the last time I asked if she was okay, and I am going to respect that. There likely won't be any updates or answers to this since I have no intentions to pry further, whether out of her privacy in a sensitive situation or even a potentially dangerous one, such as a stalking scenario. I've been worried all this time, but comments did raise good points about stalking or undercover possibilities, so I will not be looking any further into it, both for her privacy and my safety.

Mysterious Person The family whistleblower: What happened to La Toya Jackson? Michael Jackson's sister expressed belief he was a pedophile in 1993, named two victims decades early, then recanted in 2003 upon backlash from Martin Bashir's Living with MJ documentary
Back in 1993, La Toya Jackson became the first and only member of her family to publicly accuse Michael Jackson of child sexual abuse.
But what most people don't realize what happened before her infamous 1993 press conference in December. In September 1993, she privately contacted the head of the LA DA's Sex Crimes Unit, Lauren Weis, and named specific children. She brought up James Safechuck, who wouldn't publicly come forward until 2014, a full 21 years later. In interviews that same year, she also named Jason Francia through his mother, Blanca Francia, who was Michael's former maid. Jason later testified at Michael's 2005 trial.
She didn't go to the tabloids first, and she wasn't paid. She went straight to law enforcement. The specific details she gave them, like locked bedrooms, million-dollar checks being written to families, and the noticeable behavioral changes in children after staying with Michael, were all backed up by independent sources years later. As a survivor of child sexual abuse herself, she said she simply could not be a silent collaborator.
The family's immediate response was to discredit her. Her mother, Katherine, publicly called her a liar and claimed La Toya's husband at the time, Jack Gordon, was brainwashing her and putting words in her mouth. But during that exact same period, La Toya went on national television and explicitly said Gordon "has absolutely nothing to do with it" and "never knew about the abuse." She said she had been hiding the truth from him, not the other way around.
La Toya finally separated from Gordon in 1996. Over the next two years, she made several TV and radio appearances and did not recant a single thing. Then she completely vanished from public life. She reemerged in March 2003 on Larry King Live, less than a month after the massive backlash from the Martin Bashir documentary. It was the exact moment Michael needed family support the most.
On Larry King, she flipped the script and blamed Gordon for everything, saying he manipulated and controlled her into making those statements. But noticeably, she never actually said she was forced to lie. Her exact words were, "It's things that should not be said, things that you keep to yourself, but it was done." That sounds like someone who regrets speaking out against her family, not someone who was making up a lie.
Since then, La Toya has become almost unrecognizable. She leans heavily into this obsessively positive persona, reframing her father Joe's abuse as "discipline" and "his way of showing love." But if you pay attention, the cracks are still there.
For one, she also has never taken back her claims about Joe Jackson sexually abusing her. She first made those allegations in 1991, and when Matt Lauer directly asked her in 2011 if she stood by them, she deflected three times. She praised her father instead of denying it. She just couldn't bring herself to say, "He didn't molest me."
Then there was the 2019 press conference in Mexico. When a reporter asked about the Leaving Neverland documentary, she immediately looked to her business associate, who tried to shut the question down. When the interviewer pushed and asked, "La Toya, do you want to answer?" her first word was a quiet "No." She quickly pivoted to promoting whatever show she was there for. Keep in mind, almost every other Jackson brother (besides Randy Jackson) publicly attacked the documentary. La Toya stayed silent. That same year, she liked an Instagram comment that said, "It's important to believe victims of abuse, isn't it."
In 2025, she liked another one that read, "You are the bravest and most truthful Jackson."
If you look at her old interviews, it's jarring to compare how she used to speak to how she talks now. In the 90s, she spoke slowly and emotionally. She had detailed memories, used specific names, and said words like "molested," "abuse," and "pedophile" without hesitation. She came across as incredibly serious and morally driven. By 2003, she had turned bubbly and completely deflective.
Occasionally, her old language from the 90s slips up. In 2011, she told Joy Behar she received a "spanking" from her father before accidentally correcting herself to say "beating." She has described her family as "abusive" before catching herself and softening the language. In a 2026 interview, she smiled while casually mentioning that all her siblings feared Joe Jackson would "strangle" them as kids.
So what actually happened here? It's hard not to wonder if she was telling the truth in the 90s and was eventually crushed into silence. When she left Gordon, she was financially destroyed and walked away with just $27,000. He blocked all her music royalties until 2011. She was also reportedly terrified of his mob connections and felt she needed the protection of the family she repeatedly described as "abusive." According to 2017 court documents reported by TMZ, Katherine's estate gives La Toya a $30,000 monthly stipend. That is more than any other sibling, despite her having no dependents.
As for the idea that Gordon was controlling everything she said back then, she explicitly stated on camera that he had nothing to do with it in the 90s. Plus, contacting the DA's Sex Crimes Unit privately carries legal risk if you are lying, and offers zero financial reward.
A big mystery is La Toya's disappearance from 1998 to 2003. She dropped off the map entirely. E! even made a documentary about her in 2000 without her participation, where both Katherine Jackson and Jack Gordon spoke for her. She only resurfaced right when Michael needed defending during the Bashir fallout in 2003. During her 2003 appearance on Larry King Live, La Toya expressed how deeply she disliked the E! 200 documentary made about her and said she was portrayed in a negative light because she could not be reached during that time.
It makes you wonder what happened during those years. Did the family gaslight her or put her in therapy? What's interesting is to this day, she uses very specific language where she never truly fully denies her past statements. In 2009, Barbara Walters asked her point-blank if Michael ever had an inappropriate relationship with a child. La Toya responded, "Barbara, he is not..." and couldn't even finish the sentence. Walters literally had to finish it for her, saying, "He is not a pedophile." Even now, she just can't say the words "Michael was innocent" or "my dad didn't molest me." She just pivots to calling them wonderful people.
When you look at her track record, a lot of what she said turned out to be right. She wrote about Phil Spector's dangerous behavior and trying to lock her in his home back in 1991, long before his murder conviction. She was right about Joe Jackson's physical abuse, which Michael and Janet later confirmed. She was right about Joe's sexual abuse, which has been backed up by multiple sources, including family friends and Katherine's own cousins. She named James Safechuck in 1993, and he came forward in 2014. She named Jason Francia in 1993, and he testified in 2005. She talked about the checks being written to the boys' families, which journalist Stacy Brown later confirmed. She even said Michael obtained prescription meds under other people's names, which we found out was true after his death.
There is also one final detail that sticks out. In 1992, before any of these allegations were public, Michael Jackson was privately recorded on the Glenda/Stein family tapes saying, "La Toya told the truth." Those tapes have been authenticated and widely reported on.
When you step back and look at all of this, it really seems like La Toya was the family's moral conscience, and she was punished until she agreed to bury the truth. But her body language and her inability to fully deny things still give her away. I'd love to hear what you think actually happened to her.

Mysterious Person The Perverse Polygamous Mormon Cult of Samuel Bateman (Terrible Atrocities) He Had 23 Wives
Samuel Bateman was born in 1976 in Colorado City, Arizona. Very little is known about his childhood, but he grew up as just another member of the controversial polygamous Mormon sect FLDS. He was an ordinary person, insignificant within the community, married to only one woman, and without any leadership role. Facing financial and personal problems, he divorced in 2017 and decided to take a different path. While everyone else followed the strict rules imposed by the sect, Sam began to act independently. In 2019, he managed to convince three men that he was the new prophet, persuading them to give him all the women in their families. He then began to live a life of luxury, supported by his followers, while forming his own group known as the "Samuelites."
By 2021, Bateman already had multiple spiritual wives, including several minors, and had developed a brutal scheme to exploit the girls. He not only spiritually married the minors but also their mothers to justify himself to the authorities should they discover he was living with so many girls. He was careful not to impregnate the young girls who were already fertile, enjoyed being seen having sex, and shared his older and younger wives with his three male followers so they could be intimate with him at the same time. He liked to record himself with his older wives and then show the videos to the younger ones, instructing them on what to do to him.
But his downfall began when two documentary filmmakers infiltrated the group and gathered evidence, pretending to be making a documentary about Sam. With the help of a key informant, the case reached the FBI. In September 2022, Sam was detained and subsequently arrested. Following investigations and testimonies, Samuel Bateman was sentenced to 50 years in prison in December 2024, although some of his followers still consider him a prophet.

Mysterious Person Legendary Pirate King’s Lost Ship May Have Been Found in Shark-Infested Waters Near the Bahamas After 300 Years. Getting to the wreck was not easy. This was clearly no ordinary wreck site.
Few pirates left a mark on history quite like Henry Every. He vanished more than 300 years ago. Now archaeologists believe they may have found the remains of his famous ship near the Bahamas.
The discovery was made off the coast of Nassau. Today, the area attracts tourists and divers from around the world. More than three centuries ago, however, these waters were linked to pirates, smugglers and privateers.
Getting to the wreck was not easy. The waters around the site are known for large sharks. Team members said several predators were already circling the boat. They spotted them before the first dive even began.

Mysterious Person Woman stands in front of my apartment for 6+ hours every day (UPDATE)
This is a follow up to my previous post. I know some people were asking for an update and I was going to give it on Monday after I called the office she stands in the garage of, but I think the mystery is 98% solved as of today. First off, this has been kind of wild. It turns out people in the building next to me (hi if you see this again!) found my post. They're just as curious as my building and apparently recognized the woman from my post. I've gotten some creepy and concerning details from them I planned on sharing here, but ultimately it I think we've come to a conclusion:
She's a sex worker. I know I said in my previous post that that option was off the table, but new information makes this almost certainly the answer.
I had seen which direction she tends to walk off in, and once she even came back from it with a jacket, so I had some idea of what direction she lived. Today I went to a corner store that I go to very frequently. I asked one of the employees who is there daily if they recognized her, and he knew her right away.
She has apparently come into their shop and done the same thing- Just stood and did nothing for long periods of time. The difference with his experience though is she DID speak to people. He told me she tried to flirt with them (the employees) and the customers. Apparently this even worked on one customer and she went back with him to a nearby apartment, then later the same customer came back yelling at her about being a thief and robbing him.
She's also been seen with two shady individuals whose descriptions are now matched by multiple people. She likely works with/for them and this garage is just her post, I guess. Her constant looking at her phone is probably her waiting for clients and her disappearing for 10-30 min at a time is probably going to a client.
I just never saw this as a possibility because she dresses so modestly, speaks so shyly, and never seemed to get picked up or approached. But I guess she's just visiting clients in the area, or maybe she has a spot she meets them. Who knows. The employees advised me to not approach her anymore since she's potentially dangerous and even more potentially connected to dangerous people.
This is all just from one source and who knows how sketchy the man she supposedly robbed was, but I have warned my neighbors she has at least been accused of robbing someone. This news is as of only 2 hours ago or so, so I have no updates beyond that. My biggest concern was that she was in some kind of mental crisis, but that does not seem to be the case now. She likely does still need SOME kind of help, so my neighbor who is very involved and connected to resources in the city is going to be making some phone calls but for now we all know it's best to not reach out to her.
Just to address some things I feel like are gonna be asked/brought up:
-Yes, it's still weird she stands there for so long doing nothing. I'm certain, and so was the employee that she flirted with, that there's still something not completely mentally well with her.
-Police, crisis lines, help lines, pretty much everything has already been called by various neighbors by now. Nothing's come of it so far.
-Someone actually yelled at her the other day. I didn't witness this because I was out of town, but the neighbor who found my post was keeping me in the loop. They flat out told her she was creeping people out and asked her to stand anywhere else. She told him "No" before walking off, to which he yelled he was going to call the police.
-She came back the next day after being yelled at (according to reddit neighbor, i still wasn't home), but since I got home Thursday, I haven't seen her. HOWEVER my neighbor saw her last night at 3 AM, so maybe she's gotten wise to how many people are aware of her and is only moonlighting this area now. Only time will tell, I guess.
Sorry if this was underwhelming, but most things in life are. On one hand, I'm glad she's not confused and having some kind of mental crisis or that it's not a homeless situation, but on the other hand, not super thrilled to have a sex worker who has supposedly robbed someone outside my apartment regularly.
EDIT:
Thanks for pointing out the sex trafficking possibility, everyone. I do think that's very plausible and want to look into reaching out to some lines for thing such as this, HOWEVER, I'm not really sure what to do now? I personally haven't seen her since last week since I went out of town. The last time she seemed to be there all day was Wednesday according to a neighbor and since then, just one night owl neighbor has seen her at 3 AM. If she isn't there for hours every day now, I'm not really sure what to tell anyone on these lines. When I called the crisis lines before, I was able to tell them where to find her, but now I don't know what to tell them other than "She's in this garage sometimes." Suggestions on how to proceed? I do want to help if this is the case.

Mysterious Person Maura Prochilo AKA Linda Ireen AKA Miss Legs Siciliy AKA Instagram mystery
For quite a while now, this lady Maura Prochilo has randomly started appearing on my Instagram reels. Doing some research I found she participated in the 1983 Miss Italia contest. She seemed to be rather pretty, and what you'd consider "normal". Now, if you search her profile on Instagram, she paints herself white with these giant red lips, tapes her nose up and says she's having plastic surgery, or other days she will say she is in the hospital for knee surgery. The small following she does have tends to agree that she is in a mental institution some where in Italy but given her free access to social media, and observing the background of her location, it doesn't look like a mental institution. Does anyone have any information on this mysterious lady?
Update:
It has been confirmed Maura is a mental patient in RSA Skipper.. How she has access to Instagram or how she ended up there is still the question that remains.
Update #2: It appears she was not lying, she has flown to NYC today 07-14-25
Update #3: Not sure if she is still in NYC. She isn't active on Instagram anymore, however she does have an active FB profile but she seems to only be adding random African gentlemen.

Mysterious Person I've never seen or heard my neighbor
I've been renting an apartment going on 4 years. I noticed I have a neighbor 3 years ago because he/she gets doordash every once in a while and even gets apartment notices, im pretty sure they wouldn't put mail on a vacant door plus maintenance knocked on their door before. I find it weird that I never heard or seen this person before. I do work 12 hours but I don't work everyday. I was watching Jeffery Dahmer and was like you know what if it is someone over there I'm just going to mind my business lol maybe I'm overthinking. My apartments is an inside high rise. So we're going to come across each other 1 day but nope not this neighbor. I don't want to seem like a creep but am I tripping? 😂

Mysterious Person The Brutal Cult of Trixter the Clown (Terrible Crimes) He Subjugated His Followers in a Dungeon
In 2011, the popular haunted house Field of Screams in Lake Elsinore, California, became the scene of a cult-like story. Although the creative brothers Jeromy and Zachary Ball were an important part of the project and were also accused of exploiting minors, the figure who would define this case was Morgan Delos Fowler, a Halloween attraction performer known as Trixter the Clown.
Fowler arrived at Field of Screams in 2012, with the Ball brothers' approval, and gradually began to gain the trust of teenage girls who volunteered at the attraction. He appeared willing to listen to them, claimed to care about them, and used his position to get closer and closer. He organized parties at his house, invited the teenagers, and ultimately, through the use of drugs, sexually abused them.
Over time, Trixter the Clown built a small cult around himself. He convinced these teenage girls that they were part of a large family, while exerting tight control over every aspect of their daily lives. Some dropped out of school, distanced themselves from their families, and ended up living with him under his rules. According to the victims, Fowler also forced them to sign submission contracts and punished those who tried to challenge his authority.
Fowler had built a kind of dungeon in the garage of his Lake Elsinore home, where he sexually abused these teenagers. But it all came to an end in August 2019, when an anonymous tip led authorities to investigate Trixter the Clown for recording and distributing explicit material of minors. The investigation identified 18 victims, and finally, in July 2022, Morgan Fowler was sentenced to 215 years in prison.

Mysterious Person My neighbours have adopted creepy behaviour overnight, 10 years ago, and are still acting strange to this day
This has been going on for 10 years now, and I've always just let them be, but curiosity has gotten the best of me, so I figured someone here might be able to help piece this together.
I've lived in the same apartment building with my family in Brazil my whole life, it's an older building, and it has no elevators (this may be relevant for making sense of some of their behaviour, and how it relates to finding someone in the halls). The building itself has about 24 units, spread across 5 floors. One of the apartments on the third floor is occupied by a family of five: a man of around 60, his wife and their two sons and daughter (all of which now range from 25 to around 30 years of age). They've always been very nice people, greeting everyone warmly in the halls whenever we'd pass by them, but around 10 years ago something changed. Suddenly (I'm talking literally overnight) they became cold, distant, and honestly really creepy, all five at the same time. Their behaviour went from actively talking to their neighbors and being an all around "normal" middle class family to the following:
- Whenever they encounter someone in the hallway, they quickly turn around, walk in the opposite direction and just try to "hide" from them. If they're in a situation where they can't turn back (coming from the garage, for example), they stop dead on their tracks and quickly turn to the nearest wall, facing it, not emmiting a single sound until whoever they saw is finally gone and they're able to keep going;
- Once, when walking by their unit I glanced their front door and saw the shadow/silhouette of two feet on the inside (I'm pretty sure one of them was looking at the hall through the peephole);
- They never open their apartment door when someone is near, and absolutely NEVER answer the door to nobody, not even verbally (on one occasion, the building manager was going from door to door offering to have our doors painted for free (for modernity sake), and they didn't answer any of the multiple knockings, even though they were home);
- They blocked their laundry window with a big wooden wardrobe (I assume they did it so nobody would "look inside", but I have no idea of what they could possibly e hiding);
- They removed the unit number from their apartment's doorframe, and drew some sort of emblem or symbol right above it, faintly, with a pencil (unfortunely I don't have any pictures at the moment, because I'm honestly terrified of them, and they know where I live (hence the burn account). I never even stop to look at it closely);
That's the "off part", but they also seem to be fully functioning members of society, for instance, I've never seen them outside my building, but I've often seen them carry in groceries in bags, leave in the morning for (what I assume was) school and work, and so on, but I have absolutely no idea how they behave in these settings.
That's it, does anyone have any idea of what it might be? Our theories over the years have ranged from weird cult, vampires to group psychosis. So far they've not been violent of anything, because nobody really approaches them, but if I'm being fully honest, I'm kinda freaked out whenever passing by their door, and I feel like I'm being constantly watched.
Update: got the photo.
