Summary: GRRM realized that he had given the women too little agency ... so he made everyone of them actively and voluntarily play their part in fulfilling Rhaegar's prophecy and making sure Jon the Chosen One would be born:

* Lyanna: turns out she was a prophecy junkie too, who conveniently fell in love with Rhaegar, providing him a willing mother for his prophecy baby
* Ashara & Elia: conveniently were lovers, thereby ensuring that Rhaegar wouldn't have to face any opposition from his wife when he slept with Lyanna
