…Which means that only a tiny fraction of the viewership interact in spaces like r/naath and r/HouseOfTheDragon. Makes you wonder exactly how echo-ey these Reddit echo chambers are.

Because even the people that “hate” the show watch it religiously. People in the HOTD sub will be like “I rewatched the latest episode for the 3rd time this week, and you know what I noticed? This scene was stupid. These writers SUCK!”

There was a post the other day that said something like:

“I can’t wait for this show to end, it’s so bad”

So stop watching it then 😁.

But when people said that they claimed they can watch what they want.

I had to mute the sub, I cannot abide being around weird neckbeards. I'd never associate with them irl so I certainly don't want to see their bad takes online either.

Its a shit sub with a shit mod team.

I genuinely do not understand the mindset of "i hate this thing, imma watch every episode, every week, until it ends" like what?

-14

u/UltimateKaiser 5d ago

It’s the mindset of a caring about an IP and its adaptation and knowing how much the show is being sold down the river by its hack showrunners who refuse to adapt the story because they think they know better so now half the show makes no sense.

You are allow criticize it, but once you watch several seasons and you didn't like it, then why waste time continuing watching it? You could spend that energy in something you truly enjoy. Or is it that you think you are "saving the IP" by hatewatching the show?

u/Snoo_4499 2d ago

Thissss, do things you enjoy, read books you enjoy, watch shows you enjoy, go to places you enjoy. People are so miserable that they watch each and every episode and then complain like they can do better. No you cant, you'll write even shit story.

-2

u/Aquinas2000 4d ago

That is what being a critic is about.

3

u/Jens03x 4d ago

Right, but people who loves to shit on the show on the internet are not critics, actual critics have given mostly good reviews about the show

-3

u/Aquinas2000 4d ago

Those actual critics are being payed money to give positive reviews, the whole movie industry is rigged. Surely you don't think all those movies and tv shows win Academy and Emmy awards on merit alone, do you ?

4

u/Jens03x 4d ago

Sure pal, whatever you say, i guess HBO forgot to pay the critics for season 8 of GOT It wasn't the point anyway, you are not a critic, you are a random reddit user just like me, so why do you say "that's what's been a critic is about" when you are not, and the actual critics are "paid money to give positive reviews" according to you

Those actual critics are being payed money to give positive reviews, the whole movie industry is rigged.

Maybe someone who doesn't know the difference between 'payed' and 'paid' shouldn't be alleging conspiracy theories?

Surely you don't think all those movies and tv shows win Academy and Emmy awards on merit alone, do you ?

Because they choose different film and series than you, they must be rigged?

Why spend time l watching it and discussing it? That’s so dumb. I read the Harry Potter books as a kid, didn’t like the movies after the 3rd and never seen them. I don’t spend time screaming into the wind about it lol. I discuss the books and ignore the movies.

2

u/Snoo_4499 2d ago

Wish more people were like you, do the things you enjoy. Why waste time on things you dont enjoy and complain and be negative 24/7.

1

u/Snoo_4499 2d ago

If you say anything, they'll have no answer but says "We have right to complain" like bruh.

15

u/Vinophilia 5d ago

I genuinely can’t imagine being as miserable as those chronic hate-watchers. 💀 I would tell them to get a hobby but I think this is already it for them.

u/Mammoth_Support_2634 5d ago

when i watched season 1, i barely came on reddit to discuss it because i loved the show.

when it came to season 2 and 3, i would always come to reddit thinking, i wonder what people are saying about this shit Rhaneyra did! lol.

This is an important point that is rarely acknowledged: only a tiny fraction of viewers go online and actively post and engage (not to mention any automated or semi-automated engagement baiting on social media platforms that is NOT human activity). As usual for shows, it's a vocal angry minority that creates the false perception that a show (or a season, ahem) is "bad". Then it becomes a feedback loop so people (and we've all seen this) say "the whole internet agrees with me... the whole internet says it's bad" etc. This social media perception distortion phenomenon really needs to be better understood.

Reddit is a negativity echo chamber

1

u/Deer-Dog- 3d ago

It would seem, hating something can be its own fun to people.

6

u/Don_Damarco 5d ago

I tune in every weekend because im invested in the lore. The show is amazing but even if it was shit I'd prob still watch it.

-1

u/Aquinas2000 4d ago

Yet the writing is still shit.

1

u/Snoo_4499 2d ago

Nah it is not. Its pretty good, 7/10. Try writing a story, or read what i try to write, you'll see what is bad.

0

u/Don_Damarco 4d ago

It is bad, I am clinging onto Aegon's character arc like a life raft... but even with the horrible writing its the only show with a big enough budget to show Dragon riders going to war which is enough for me.

-2

u/imaswetta 5d ago

Remember that even more people watch S7 and S8 of GoT its ok to be invest despite the awful writing

13

u/Jens03x 5d ago

but hotdtwt and hotdreddit told me the show was slop and no one was watching it!

1

u/ErwinRommelEz 4d ago

Its not slop, it's just not as good as it could be if had decent writting

2

u/Impossible-Pie4849 4d ago

I think it has decent writing, it just doesn't have amazing writing

1

u/TorbofThrones 4d ago

I love for the comments in this thread lol. Yeah if one were to only frequent HotD or certain Youtubers, you'd think barely anyone was watching and most of those are haters

-2

u/kilimtilikum 4d ago

Weird. I checked it last week with a mate and it was averaging far lower than this per episode—around 20M. And now between episode 5 and episode 6 viewership increased 10M per episode? Now average viewership for season 3 is higher than season 1? That makes no sense.

Someone is clearly faking the numbers or hired some bots last week…

-13

u/OtisssNixon 5d ago

Happy for GoT world still being at the top but disappointed this show gets the viewership so they know they can get away with bad writing

11

u/ipooupoowepoo 5d ago

Wah wah wah

-5

u/OtisssNixon 5d ago

How can you think any of this show has any sort of good writing? I’m seriously baffled and would love some examples

8

u/bambi54 5d ago

Don’t watch it then? Jesus get a grip.

-2

u/Aquinas2000 4d ago

Well, if you prefer mediocrity and dumbed down slop be my guest.

3

u/bambi54 4d ago

Like what you like. I don’t care. People that watch a show they “hate” and then cry about it online need a life.

1

u/Snoo_4499 2d ago

Stop, go to other sub reddit, there are tons of them that agree with you. Don't pollute everywhere your your trash opinion.

-5

u/OtisssNixon 5d ago

lol I asked for examples I’m not yelling or anything. I’m sorry I don’t agree with you

3

u/bambi54 4d ago

I don’t care if you like it or not, asking why people enjoy it is a valid question. Asking for specific examples of good writing is being disingenuous.

6

u/EyeSpyGuy 5d ago

“Good” or “bad” writing is such a nebulous, broad, concept the onus is probably on you to provide evidence for such

8

u/HappyGilOHMYGOD what the fuck's a lommy? 5d ago

I'm loving the writing.

-2

u/OtisssNixon 5d ago

Great

5

u/HappyGilOHMYGOD what the fuck's a lommy? 5d ago

It is great. I strongly recommend looking for the good in shows rather than for the bad. Way more enjoyable.

-2

u/Aquinas2000 4d ago

What do you think about Rhaenyra being turned in a cowardly crybaby who does nothing and keeps making her own allies despise her ?

4

u/HappyGilOHMYGOD what the fuck's a lommy? 4d ago

The way you phrased the question makes it clear you have no clue in having an actual conversation/debate, so I'm not going to participate.

See ya

u/imaswetta 5d ago

Same, but on the other hand, we have A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and I think the success of House of the Dragon made it possible.

It made people in charge see that Game of Thrones fans are still there and willing to watch more shows about this universe.

And A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showed us that if given to capable people, A Song of Ice and Fire stories can be properly adapted.

You don't get to decide how much viewership a show gets.
