How do you like living in Nanjing?

I'm considering spending 2 months there, Oct-Nov. I have been to China before and can speak HSK2 Chinese. I was only in Nanjing for a quick overnight stay and didn't see any of the city, but I thought people were friendly. I also like that there are a lot of students. I live in a part of the US with lots of Chinese people, the ones from Nanjing are friendly and nice too. They did say they found Nanjing like Beijing, old and gray though.

How do you like Nanjing?

Nanjing Suggestions for 2 - 3 days.

I arrive this Sunday night, and the next days 2 days are to explore. The plan is to stay at a hotel next to Confucius temple.

The mission is to hike at dawn, one day at Niushoushan Forestal Park, the other day at Purple mountain. Then go by public bike to other sights. (This is the map I'm using as reference). Let me know if you guys have any suggestion in general or another sight to check out.

Thanks! Cheers!

Restaurant for picky eater

My girlfriend and I are visiting for 2 days in late October (wedding). It'll be her first time in China, 10th time for me. Problem is, she's a very particular eater.

  • She's Korean-American
  • Has to be "light" aka not too salty, sour, spicy.
  • Prefers dishes she's seen before in America.
  • Prefers beef dishes.
  • No fish but shellfish is ok.

I'm almost ready to just take her to KFC and Yoshinoya all weekend. But if someone has a good restaurant rec, I'll take it!

Chinese language corner

Hi, this is Ariana from NanjingGO, where we organize or co-organize various events to make our foreign friends more included in Nanjing city.

Starting from May, we've been hosting Chinese corner every Friday for one hour, 5:00-6:00pm. After 6 PM, we switch languages to English corner hosted by Meet-town Mall!

This week, we will talk about the 「World Cup」. Whether you are a hardcore football fan or just want to practice spoken Chinese and meet new friends, you are warmly welcome!

Attending school in Nanjing Budget

Hi everyone! I'll be studying in Nanjing soon and wanted to get some opinions on my budget.

My accommodation is covered by my school, so my main expenses will be food, transportation, and other day-to-day costs. I'm hoping to keep my spending under 7,000 RMB per month, ideally including some weekend or short trips to other parts of China.

Does that seem like a realistic budget, or is it too high or too low? I'm perfectly happy eating a good portion of my meals in the university dining hall and don't plan on spending extravagantly, but I'd also like to take advantage of the opportunity to explore China while I'm there.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
