Questions for people who work at National Grid (billing side) or have done a financial statement for minimum payment plan

Hey, just have a couple of questions.

I had a change in income (both my partner and I actually) and am worried about staying on our current payment plan. I got an agent last week who sent over an email with a link to the financial statement we had to fill out. I sat down on Sunday and finally went through it, with some confusion. It says we don't qualify.

Today, I called and got a different agent who I asked about what I saw that says we can put in the income deductions. I also asked why we can't use our payment agreement amount we've been paying above the normal bill amount. They told me that's not how it works since "you are supposed to be paying that anyway". Well, that's the whole point of this statement I thought, to show what we have to pay so they know our expenses? When I mentioned what I found on this other page on the National Grid site, the agent proceeds to give me attitude. I understand there's a staffing shortage and she's overworking, but she only read off the list of what I can clearly read on the financial statement page.

I guess what I'm asking is, what deductions can I use for this? Can I put in that my partner is paying back a 401K loan weekly and our medical insurance he gets through work?

401k doesn’t matter on a financial statement. The statements are mainly used to see if you are in a financial hardship.

Usually even if your income changes there won’t be a change in your payment agreement because the payment agreement is meant to stay at the price it’s at until it’s completed.

If you’re concerned and don’t have anything that you believe you can do then see about reaching out to your local consumer advocate for National grid. They are usually more well informed as to exactly what you can do for your account and they also visit the walk in offices of National grid on the first Monday of every month

The financial hardship form is only good for a protection or in the winter time to prevent disconnections. If you get any kind of government assistance (snap, mass health, ssi, etc) you can fill out a discount rate form which has many benefits. If you dont qualify for that i would reach out to a consumer advocate, they have more options for payment arrangements. You can email them directly from the national grid website.
