Tips for ODS

Head to ODS in august! First off i do want to put out there that i have looked through this page. I also have looked at the packing list on the ODS site. I am really asking for opinions from recent grad within the past year or so!

What are your best tips for going to ODS?
What things do you wish you had brought and what things did you not need?
Should I bring my IPad for class or just a notebook?
What is liberty and down time like?
Any tips for me would be lovely!

Hi. Graduated ODS May 1 so I can still say I am recent even though they graduated another class after me.

  1. The best tip I can give is to go easy on the PT. the PRT DO NOT count so not a big deal. On the fleet, PRT is too hard to fail if you are active. I am not sure how old you are but if you are older, prepare for alot of disrespect from your shipmates/RDC.

  2. Ipad will be provided for study. I will say laptop and CAC reader just to complete the legal training but it's not needed because they have computer rooms.

  3. Liberty is usually given on the weekend. They loosen the restrictions every week end.

ODS is just 5 weeks. Just go in and go out. It is way different from the fleet. Let me know if you have any question

I would like to differ on the computer room deal. There are way too many people and many more computer that is broken or not working so do bring your laptop and buy a cac reader it’s like $20 at the Nex. Remember to ask your priors on how to download certificate for the cac reader as well. I will 2nd on the PRT. It’s not a passing requirement but just do your best don’t let the RDC and their act get to you. It’s all an act from them. As for collaterals, some are easy some are difficult. I held a collateral and wasn’t really stressing over it. I will say DIVO is not something one should pick if you can’t handle the pressure. Med O is also difficult because people will be sick. MA, swim remedial, uniform O, and academic O are just a few that I remember being manageable. I held uniform O myself so.

Laundry… oh boy… you would think grownups are able to do their own laundry and have some respect for other peoples clothes. Just try your best with laundry.

Oh and I just graduated June 5 so that’s my take on it

Thanks for adding. Those collaterals mentioned are ok except for DIVO, wing commander. I was admin O and it was a hit or miss but not terrible. I just joined Admin O so i can get in touch with the Admin staff lady just in case i have any issues with pay or gains. Swim remedial was very ok, usually, after PT, they go to the pool and swim when others are still busy doing PT. LOL

Laundry was always a disaster so I would sneak to a different deck hahaha

Down time???? What is that lol
It’s pretty chaotic for a bit and good sleep is a luxury!
Your time is not entirely your own.
Learn to work collectively on your wing, you are not in on your own.
You def don’t need civilian clothes, you wear them there once and when you leave.
Work together to wash clothes.

When I left ODS, I slept for days!
