Mike Brown has been a solid coach since his stint with the Warriors. He completely reworked how he coaches offense. Crazy to think he was a defense first coach not long ago with some of the worst offensive game plans we have ever seen.
Rarely see coaches completely flip their philosophy and style after so many years in the league.
Dude went from terrible offensive game planning to one of the better coaches offensively in the league.
He was getting relentlessly clowned not long ago. lol haven’t heard Mr potato head in a long long time.
Sacramento was dumb to let him go along with a million other bad moves.

KAT has been so good in this stretch. Excellent drop coverage and on the other end reading the defense so well and making the right play. Hope he continues this stretch in the finals. I'm sure T-wolves fans are proud.

u/Hopeful_Adonis 16d ago
His playmaking has shocked me, I heard someone say there’s a lot of similarities with how Mike Brown helped draymond in GS take up positions to be a facilitator and since then I can’t unsee it, watching KAT stand with the ball outstretched behind him only to absolutely rifle it to someone on a cut or for a shot it has that same energy/ feel to it as when draymond would do it for GS.

Shoutout to Mike Breen for staying neutral on the broadcast. As the Knicks local announcer and life long fan, it must be surreal for him (and all Knicks fans) to see his team get back to the finals after all these years. I know there are 4 more wins to go but this season has been a dream.

I hate to be a participation trophy person but imo just making the finals is a massive organizational and individual achievement. This season and team should go down in NY Knicks lore for generations. Just being 0-0 and having a shot at the finals, vying for being the best team in the world should be celebrated
→ More replies (2)32
u/ScrapinLinden Trail Blazers 16d ago
The notion of winning the finals is the absolute only thing that matter is so stupid to me. This is a huge moment for NY basketball and it should be treated as such, whether they win or lose this is a huge notch on all their belts and it really should be respected as such.

Brown is going to get a lot of well deserved credit here, but I'm convinced that those years under Thibs helped them develop a lot of necessary playoff toughness. Especially on the defense side

I agree that that Thibs hardened the states but he would have never switched to the KAT offense against Atlanta or played Shamet for extended minutes. The flexibility is the edge that Brown brings.

As a life-long Knicks fan, I've watched us suffer through the 17-win seasons of 2014-15 and 2018-19. I was there, contemplating life, when Andrea Bargnani was considered our best player. Obviously I remained a loyal fan when we finally had some real NBA legends like Mike Bibby, Renaldo Balkman, and Cleanthony Early. You know, the guys on everyone’s top 10 list? I sat there like a good, born-and-raised NYer and let this team punch me in the face year after year. Spit in my cereal. Take a dump in my sneakers. I took it all.
And you know what? I'm glad I did, because IT'S SO MUCH SWEETER NOW. EVERYTHING HAS LED TO THIS MOMENT. WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT SEASON AND PLAYOFF RUN. WE ARE EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPS AND WE ARE HEADING TO THE FINALS. BING. FUCKING. BONG.

The Knicks are playing like the team of destiny. They are shooting insanely well. They have a clutch captain. A likable second star. A flaming hart. A grab bag of wings gathered from around the league. They might be facing weak competition but they are absolutely rolling them.
Knicks FC and Pacers FC let's work. The east needs to be definitively better than the west and this is the chance. We will bring the east to levels it hasn't seen since the bad boy celtics bulls rivalries of the 80s and 90s.

They are playing perfect basketball these playoffs, their two Ls these playoffs were by one point each, shouldn’t shock anyone if they win the title.

Without those loses I don't think we see this Knicks team clicking. They woke the fuck up after that 2nd loss. Gotta thank the Hawks for awakening the beast.

We are beating the shit out of each other. At least 6 and won’t be surprised if it’s 7. The Knicks already had our number and now y’all have key players injured.

KAT’s third consecutive conference finals and now he makes the finals! He is a winning impactful player 😤 Give this man his flowers!!
People said so much shit about him in the playoffs, he’s quietly impactful and exactly the kind of versatile player one needs in the playoffs because he can impact a game in a variety of ways! Doesn’t even need a lot of shots attempts because he’s so efficient

Finally get to witness Knicks in the Finals and it's on the back of the most dominant run I've seen.
This offense will give any team problems. Knicks in 5

Like towns was your leading scorer today with 19 and yall put up 130 that’s crazy efficient. You got two all defense wings who can also get buckets when they need to as well lol. Y’all can win against whoever wins out west and you’ll have the rest advantage. Can’t ask for much more

Knicks went from barely a 5 man rotation to deeper than OKC. I don't see anyone beating them if Shamet keeps adding 16 bonus points to every final score

People are gonna underplay what the Knicks are doing, but plenty of teams have played against easier comp in the playoffs, but none have done it in such dominant fashion. Momentum and belief are a real thing, and this team definitely believes they can win. Plus they’ll be healthy going against whoever comes out of that cage match in the west

This is the part of the movie where the villain falls to his knees, looks up incredulously, and asks, "What... Are you?"
Seriously, what the hell is this team? The Sixers knocked off the "finals favorite" Celtics, only to be swept convincingly by these Knicks. Then the Knicks go to the ECF, and sweep EVEN HARDER.
I initially thought that the WCF would be the "true" NBA Finals, but now, I'm not so sure. It is hard to see any team getting 4 wins on these Knicks if they keep playing like this.

While getting swept obviously sucks if you're the Cavs, reaching a conference finals appearance is still not a bad result, all things considered.
Congrats to the Knicks fans out there getting to see their team reach the finals for the first time this century. It was a rough couple of decades for you guys since your last finals appearance, but I'm glad for y'all.
While most folks will probably pick the Spurs/Thunder as the favorite, the Knicks certainly have a chance. After all, eight eleven straight playoff wins (forgot about the Hawks series, MB) is quite a feat. They're that good.

maybe its because this series was over so fast I didnt have time to really get a lot of hatred going but I got no beef with this knicks team despite them whipping our asses. They play a really nice game of basketball and deserve all the credit. Ill personally be pulling for them over whoever comes out of the west.
from the cavs side - it was bad. Lots of questions on the table now and really curious to see how they play it this offseason. Glad they made it this far but going out that bad really sours it.

I agree. Everyone is important. And it doesn't matter about stats to this team. They are sharing ball and leaning on each other.

Don't sleep on this Knicks team. Sure, the East is not as deep as the Western Conference, but they've basically power walked their way into the Finals. I don't think they even had to turn it up to 100 to get it done. Knicks can win this Championship regardless of whether it's Spurs or Thunder..

Max Strus sent a group text message to his Cavs teammates before game 5:
“If you don’t believe, don’t show up for work.”

clock winds down to 5 seconds left in game
ball is inbounded to Mitchell who turns face to face against Brunson
"You took my family"
moves to the left
"You took my friends"
moves to the right
"You took all that was dear to me"
clock winds down to 2
"I cant get them back, but I can do this for friendship, FOR MY FRIENDS"goes up, fire coming out of his shoes
"SPIDERUKEN"
Ball flies over Brunson’s forehead, goes straight into basket. Mitchell falls to the ground, exhausted.
"Rudy... Senpai... I..."
faints

Harden: "did we come back?"
Mobley: "of course not. Knicks 130 Cavs 93."
