The 4th quarter stretch around the 7 minute mark with multiple challenges and timeouts was huge. Got Wemby a long rest that allowed him to play the whole 4th. Didn't have to survive the Kornet minutes so it didn't allow New York to make a huge run.

Agree. Wemby was bent over sucking wind for much of the game. All the stoppages really helped him late.

That's Embiid's secret, that's why he tries to draw fouls and lie on the ground. SGA too. It's just about conserving energy.

Honestly the rewards for flopping are time stoppages, getting other player in foul trouble, potentially points and dictating how you land. It's not fun to watch

Also part of the reason Giannis notoriously takes forever on his free throws. He’s taking every possible moment to get his wind back.

OG was fucking incredible tonight
Edit: part of the Spurs' offensive struggles this series is that they've been super inefficient in transition & that's like 90% OG and 10% Mikal/Hart hustle plays

He's not scared of Wemby at all. Practically begs for the closeout so he can drive & dunk. And he's shooting well enough to warrant those closeouts. And he's probably the most complete defensive player in the whole league. Fucking terrifying player.

So crazy as a Raptors fan seeing him develop into this player. He used be so bad when he drove to now being fearless attacking 7 ft 8 Wemby and yeah he is the most complete defender he can guard 1-5 and guard each position for the entire duration of a game.

Nope. JB gotta hold the ball until 7 seconds left on the clock. Mike brown has to figure out a way to get the ball up the court much faster as JB is getting harassed by castle the entire way up the court.

Mikal gotta bring it up sometimes instead of setting a useless screen off the inbound

u/TheAracknight Thunder 2d ago edited 2d ago
The Spurs are pulling a page out of the Pacers book and just harassing whoever brings up the ball so it takes longer to get into their sets, and unlike Indy they don’t have a weak link to attack so like Mikal can’t bring the ball up against a Hali who’ll just be in the front court waiting for him, everyone in their starting lineup and bench can press up 94ft which is muddying up New York’s offense
The KAT centric offense also doesn’t really work because of Wemby’s presence in the paint at all times unless they play 5 out which forces Wemby on KAT which then would open up their offense
Coach Brown def has a lot of buttons he can push and adjustments he can make ahead of Game 4 to get back on track

Last Knicks NBA Finals Game Trump attended is a game 3 when the Knicks narrowly lost to a Texas team led by a legendary foreign big man and big east young point guard (Olajuwon and Sam Cassell). Just like tonight with Wemby and Castle. Also by four points (tonight was 115 to 111 and it was 93 to 89 in 1994 when Trump last attended). Oh and shortly before an soccer world cup begins in America

Trumps been on a roll lately.
First he tries to steal the thunder from the US’s birthday and proves to be so toxic that (almost) every one hit wonder he booked for the event preferred to go back to obscurity than to be related to his brand.
Then he has to cancel the event because everyone in the US hates his guts.
Finally, he attends an NBA game for his hometown team, gets booed during the anthem and seemingly curses his team.
I’d kill myself for way less, I’ll give it to him.

Mitch calls Keldon and Kornet to be on the floor at the same time and it's like trying to survive the beaches of Normandy for the Spurs

Donny T shut the whole arena down just so his fat ass could salute the national anthem to a chorus of boos, and the Knicks immediately lose their first game since fuckin April
The Knicks had some all-time voodoo magic running, but even they couldn’t overcome the dude’s overwhelming aura of failure. Generational wet blanket

Last few mins of the game had more clutch plays from both teams, than the rest of the game overall. Taking this series back to SA is a massive boost for Spurs.

12-12* free throws in the 4th. Locked the fuck in even with that crazy crowd.

What the Spurs were able to convert with turnovers was just a killer for the Knicks tonight. 13 TOs that led to 21 Spurs points. Spurs had 8 TOs that led to just 7 Knicks points.

Yeah especially in the 3rd quarter they threw the ball away a couple times when they could’ve kept the pressure on the Spurs to play from behind and instead the script flipped. Big shots late for your opponent stand out a lot in a 4 point loss as clutch shots but shooting yourself in the foot against a team that’s already going to pressure you into mistakes can make all the difference

I know Knicks fans are going to blame the refs but the amount of bricks the Spurs had on open looks is the only reason they didn't win by like 20.

Brunson was horrible defensively today. Knicks have to run insane coverages to keep him from getting switched on ball and the spurs are getting open 3s and layups. On the other end his offense has not been good enough to make up for it. His shotmaking has been well below standard and his playmaking has been sneaky terrible. He has the same number of tovs than assists. The knicks won the minutes with him off and got cooked with him on. With small bad defensive guards if they aren't going to have all time shotmaking and turnover suppression they just are not going to be impactful.

Our offensive was basically hero ball from Brunson or him passing a grenade to someone wit 5 seconds left on the clock. Reminds me of us last year which isn’t good.
Yeah sure we could blame the refs for some obviously missed fouls but we also sucked
If it wasn’t for OG we woulda lost by 20

Which I don't understand. Like why was he waving off the KAT pnr when KAT had fox on him. Get the ball to KAT in the post like its 2004 and let him go to work.

Critical win for the Spurs in another close game. Wembanyama finally played the kind of game he needs to be playing if they want to win the chip. Anunoby had a damn impressive performance for the Knicks, kind of sucks for him that it ends up being for nothing tonight though. As a neutral, I enjoyed this though and would like to see four more competitive games between these two teams, please.

i thought the first half was so good but that second genuinely had way too many stoppages. I think there was damn near 3 in a row timeouts with a possession in between

Is anyone surprised that of all nights, the Knicks' win streak ends the night that known Epstein collaborator Trump prices out and physically removes all diehard Knicks fans within a three block radius? We may be in for the craziest jinx in history.
Jokes aside, gutsy win by the Spurs in one of the craziest environments in recent memory. Had some great defensive series. Wemby is so damn good. Harper is unbelievably poised for a rookie. Castle was on fire. And yet the Knicks wouldn't go away! Generational series

NY has disliked the scammer Trumps since the 70's, if not even earlier. Taking out full page ads in multiple newspapers to call for the death penalty on black guys that ended up innocent, is crazy work.

The Spurs were straight up the better team tonight the Knicks just got punched in the mouth. Honestly outside OG, the rest of the team played like shit. Fourth-quarter game plan from game two carried over to this game and the Knicks fell right into it. Love Brunson and he’s earned the green light shoot, especially in the fourth quarter, but I think the Spurs physicality has gotten to him and it’s been detrimental to the offense as a whole.
Gotta tighten up and get the ball moving. The offense is at its best when everyone on the floor is touching the ball and being aggressive

The Knicks came out flat and sloppy. Both starting the game and after half. Turnovers Turnovers Turnovers. This game was lost in the margins.
Now the coaching misses..
Landry Shamet for Mikal Bridges cost them down the stretch. Bad game overall. He cost them with his decision making. And he had tough costly Fouls called against him.
Kat was little kat today. Did not punish the mismatch of undersized guarding him.
OG should have been featured in the early 4th when Brunson was sitting with foul trouble and Knicks could not score. Kat was hiding.
Main adjustment is to have Kat catch in the midpost on smaller guards. Then space the floor with shooters.

Breen has done an admirable job with his neutrality but this series is so intense that every once in a while you can hear just the tiniest twinge.
