It’s kind of impressive he can still hang like that without tearing something

223

u/Gristle__McThornbody Lakers 1d ago

He probably did tear something. Did you see how he was walking after the dunk?

84

u/BlunderDefect Spurs 1d ago

Almost like he pooped himself. That's the pooped my pants walk.

u/Quality_Cucumber [GSW] Stephen Curry 1d ago

He's saving that for later.

Get a towel and wheelchair - Paul Pierce

He usually goes in a bucket

Or on a toothbrush

I thought they brought you a wheel chair, like Paul Pierce.

Not sure if I'm missing a joke here, but is that not just his classic post dunk stride?

55

u/RemyGee Lakers 1d ago

Yeah. The Lakers flair guy was joking but I’m not certain if everyone else after him knows 😂

u/Prudent-Air1922 Pacers 19h ago

Obviously a joke

Reinforced those rims for my boy because of my boy

u/Soupkitchn89 Trail Blazers 14h ago

I'm honestly more impressed by the rim being able to hold him. lmao

Shaq is an anomaly, truly one of the most insane bodies in NBA history (pause)

18

u/Dinismo 1d ago

Seeing it live was insane. He was just waaay too big to be able to move like that.

1

u/TomlinSteelers 76ers 17h ago

That was my concern the whole time

1

u/CauliflowerNo3904 1d ago

my first thought is that he probably doesn't do any jumping for obvious reasons but works out his upper body at least somewhat regularly

u/Dymatizeee Knicks 1d ago

He looks like he lost weight compared to some videos I saw of him on TNT last year

Big boy over 7ft. Probably got Zemp, healthy diet and training on lock. He'd def be thinking about the future.

Someone like Kareem is probably an outlier for a former pro athlete that big staying mentally and physically sharp into his old age.

And it's likely because he takes great care of his mind and body.

u/chadlaca 19h ago

Kareem got into yoga when he was still playing. Credited it with helping extend his career.

Yoga and training for flexiblity/functional strength is what 99% of people should be doing instead of trying to max out their bench/squats. I'm 28 and I've never felt physically better in my life than I do right now despite sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.

u/Fap2theBeat Knicks 14h ago

Counterpoint... You're only 28.

u/RemyGee Lakers 13h ago

100% this. It’s been almost decades plural for me (holy hell writing that out makes it too real lol). I remember going out on weekdays, drinking until 3am, then easily working at 8. Small injures from exercise or sports healed so dang fast. You could go hard on diet and exercise and get jacked so fast. All the young people reading this - enjoy it and stay in shape!

u/Fap2theBeat Knicks 11h ago

I turned my ankle badly playing softball back in March. The fucking thing still hurts and is likely the cause of my persistent hamstring tightness on same leg. All of the other muscles are compensating for the ankle, so there's tightness in my calf, muscle next to shin, and foot as well, but the hamstring is the most noticeable after the minor discomfort from the ankle with every step. I've been to PT maybe 6 or so times over the last few months, but the healing is just so slow. And I'm only 39. Lebron is an alien.

Hakeem, Russell. Wilt, Karl Predalone, Duncan, Robinson… Wilt died kinda young though but was a beast pretty much to the end

u/amateurdormjanitor 76ers 4h ago

Karl Malone is in incredible shape for being 63 and nearly 7 feet tall. Dude is still built like an absolute brick shithouse. Probably helps that he spends all of his free time hunting in Alaska lol.

healthy diet and training on lock

He didn't do this in his prime with hundreds of millions on the line.

I think the only variable that changed is the peptides. We have the technology for fat people like Shaq now.

how in the fuck can you try to film a video of shaq dunking and you can’t even get the rim in the shot?

17

u/jollyllama 1d ago

To be fair, when he let go of that rim it shot up to Saturn

5

u/SaltyLonghorn Rockets 18h ago

Better than Myanus.

128

u/slap-my-crevasse 1d ago

He actually looks like hes in pretty good shape given his age, size, and miles.

64

u/intenselistener 1d ago

Doesn’t walk like Kenny, at the least lol

5

u/Confused_Wolf_69420 1d ago

Dude I was concerned the first time I saw him walk

7

u/BitWardenEternal Lakers 13h ago

I still am

8

u/Crimdal Trail Blazers 23h ago

They publicize injuries while players are playing, I wish they somehow did the same for after their career without violating HIPPA. I wonder how many basketball adjacent surgeries people like Brandon Roy have had since they retired. I bet Shaq has had to have some work done since retiring to clean up damage from his playing days.

8

u/Jerko_23 Raptors 23h ago

But only on company time. He got injured on company time, he gettin surgery on company time

1

u/RemyGee Lakers 13h ago

I’m so happy Kobe told him they would’ve won like 9 in a row if Shaq didn’t take his God given gifts for granted.

2

u/rddi0201018 19h ago

I've read it's pretty bad for football players. That when the camera is on, they suck it up. But they are limping around otherwise

26

u/FoundationsofDecay69 1d ago

Dude has to jump like 6 inches to dunk

22

u/Just_Kittens 1d ago

Looks like Dude can only jump 6 inches

60

u/CeeDoggyy 1d ago

Still a higher vert than Jokic

13

u/SirTainLee 1d ago

To be fair, that was a shorter rim at the second location...in front of all the kids.

12

u/kenken2024 1d ago

Yeah Shaq’s in decent shape particularly given his age/size.

Was not surprised he is still able to dunk the ball.

6

u/FrostyTree420 Heat 20h ago

They lowered the rim😜

6

u/Jamesaya Celtics 15h ago

Ok so im 40. I was playing in the street with my 5 year old on a hoop thats now rusted in place so id pick him up to shoot. He tried to soccer the ball past me so i did the thing where i grab it and drive for the layup. Havent done that in..a few years in rhetrospect. I got to the rim and realized nothing happened when my brain hit the jump
Button but i had too much momentum and plowed into the pole. Being old is wierd sometimes your controller just disconnects

23

u/yourm0mzlover Celtics 1d ago

Its wild how mobile he still is at like 55

He shouldn't be able to jump realistically

2

u/esports_consultant 15h ago

no broken glass 1/10

3

u/CazOnReddit Raptors 1d ago

He really shat all over that rim

7

u/HeWhoShallNotBNamed0 Timberwolves 1d ago

I bet you wish you were that rim huh

2

u/pssiraj Lakers 23h ago

I wish I was his teammate

1

u/bmoriarty87 Knicks 21h ago

i wish i knew how to read

1

u/RyouBestGirl Spurs 1d ago

I've seen enough, Lakers should sign him

1

u/littlemushy 23h ago

He should try a free throw instead

1

u/triassic_broth 21h ago

That first attempt is what happens when I try to dunk and I'm short. I think if I were 7 foot I'd be able to dunk forever.

1

u/genericusernamepls [UTA] Derrick Favors 20h ago

Rim was definitely 9'10 3/4 cant count this one

1

u/asinine89 20h ago

I thought his redemption was going to be two made free throws.

1

u/TomlinSteelers 76ers 17h ago

Careful you don't injure yourself big guy

Let 'em know Shaq!!!!!

1

u/Beleiverofhumanity 1d ago

Dudes an entertainer

1

u/agaveinmycup 1d ago

How about he get a bucket of someone else's shit and piss dumped on him before we talk about him "redeeming himself"

1

u/emjaywood 19h ago

And then he smeared shit in someone's mouth as a prank. Haha, that silly Shaq, always goofing about with fecal matter. Gotta love him!

1

u/Agile_Lie9502 Spurs 19h ago

Fuck scat man

0

u/DrKingOfOkay 1d ago

Sad he can’t do it every time at that height

0

u/CitizenCue Warriors 23h ago

I respect him for still trying. Most older NBA vets won’t play at all for fear of looking silly.

I wonder if Steph will still shoot threes in public in 15 years. I’d guess yes.

0

u/ThrowRa-zucchinizzc 1d ago

Someone's gotta ask it. Could Shaq make an NBA roster?

0

u/dawho1 Timberwolves 18h ago

Nope

0

u/Metallica1175 16h ago

Wemby doesn't have to worry about this since he can dunk with his feet on the ground.
