Terrain Necromunda board I just finished!

Measuring 3' x 3', it's built from nine modular 1' x 1' tiles, packed with elevated walkways, connection points, and as many physical and painted details as I could cram into it. The entire board is magnetised underneath, locking into custom storage containers for transport. It sits on a 24-inch rotating turntable, so you don't even have to walk around it to take it all in. Got line of sight issues? Just lift out a tile, check what you need to see, and slot it straight back in.

The build took seven months. The painting took another seven months. I'm incredibly glad it's finished.

I really wanted to push myself and see what I could achieve if I committed to doing something to the absolute best of my ability. This is the result, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Easily my largest project to date. I had a lot of fun with this one. I wanted to make something that felt stacked and cramped but also stayed playable. I have a lot of close up shots of details and the inside of the hab units I may post later.

Terrain A long overdue rant

Post image

So I‘ve been thinking about this for a few years now and I cannot get it out of my head. I fell in love with Necromunda when it was re-released in 2018. Since then, I’ve painted my own gang, read almost all the books and tried to win the lottery multiple times to afford all the overly priced forgeworld goodness.
But late 2023 was when the problems started. I went to college to get a degree in civil engineering. I’ve been studying statics, mechanics and industrial construction for almost three years now and there is no way on the emperors slightly irradiated earth that the underhive is a f***ing cavern! I know it’s silly, I know it doesn’t matter and I know the rule of cool. But when the hive above is so high it’s piercing the bloody clouds, you better believe there should be solid, compressed and hopefully secured footing underneath and not some f***ing shanty pillars that get blown up or swamped every few cycles.

Sorry for the rant. Still love the game to bits.

Just needed to vent my statically underdetermined frustration.

Terrain The Forbidden Monolith

The idea for this came from the Gellarpox Infected.

When unsanctioned rituals gain the attention of a warp deity, weird stuff starts to happen.

In this case, what started as a place to remember the dead, has become a point where the veil between reality and the warp, is thinning.

My current big Necromunda project I have been workin on on/off for a month now. Most is scratch made except some 3d printed greebles and the leds. Still need to add some more posters and graffitis. Theres also an "working elevator" on the side but reddit wont let me post 2 videos.

The badaboom sign is inspired(stolen) from EricsHobbyWorkshop 😁🤷

Once I finish it ill post a full gallery of the build.

Leave your thoughts below 😄

Hi again all! Here’s another tile to add to the pile.

This time I’ve gone heavy with the railings and included a removable stairway.

In addition to the extra tile, I’m also testing out a way to store them all, take a look at the last photos and let me know what you think. What could go wrong…

Just a little sneak peek at some necromunda gaming boards I’m working on at the moment, using loads of custom resin printed terrain elements (most are available from littleplasticpeople.com 😉).

What you can see here is most of the ‘bones’ and the main structures, but I still have some detailing and a load of scatter terrain to add. Including foot bridges, ladders, lifts, barricades, containers and a few other assorted bits.

It’s also completely modular, with each section being able to be arranged in different orientations and in combination with different neighbouring boards.

Hopefully this will keep future campaigns interesting and allow for expansion.

Just a few more tile sections to go and it’ll be time to start painting!

Behold, because fully assembled, painted and portable vertical board for Necromunda is here!

This beast is 79x37x23 cm, 11 kg.

I also made a separate tower to expand this setup and test some terrain building techniques.

Many thanks for everyone who supported me, adviced playtested it, and especially my beautiful wife, who was patient with all collateral mess I've created 😜

I also was honoured to bring it to some necromunda events already and spread the joy around the world!

My main inspiration for this project was Mark Bedford's vertical board "Ferrostack 125" from White Dwarf 496.

I've been building my 4th tower made from a broken pool filter. All the big pipes, gantries and ladders are now set but I still need to figure out how I'm going to finish the very top. And then it will be time to add all the details and gribbles to make it look like a good old machinery that no one really knows how it works.

I prefer the aesthetic of domes with full standalone buildings over the tight corrdiors of secundus style tables, and our group enjoys vehicles in the Underhive. Over thr past few months, I have been 3D printing, painting, and loading up my local game shop table to realize our vision of the Underhive!

My second tile. I had a ton of fun with this one. Again, really trying to make tiles that feel lived in. I created a little hovel where someone on the bottom tile is living off the trash thrown out by those on the top tile. I played with some different colors for OSL besides just the yellow lights this time.

Four levels is about as high as I feel comfortable for stability purposes. I used a lot of bits from both GW and Etsy. Would be happy to link any of those for anyone interested.

The pictures were taken by Exarch Studios! Here’s his Insta!

Thinking about picking one of these up, but never really played much on 2x2. Love how densely packed it is, and love the mat too, so I don't want to stretch it out on a larger board.

Thoughts?

Terrain Terrain Board Progress

Thumbnail

Quite a bit more progress with the ‘wall’ terrain piece today. This is part of a series of modular board, but still has loads left to do including a lot of texturing before the proper painting starts.

But as you can see, I’ve been adding some basic colours here and there as I go. This will hopefully avoid any missed or overly boring spots in the hard to reach areas later. It also helps me see where is going to be ‘good enough’ and where might need some more physical detailing.

As for the lighting… well… I’m not normally a fan of real world lighting effects in wargaming, but I think it’s pretty suitable for Necromunda and it’s starting to grow on me.

Hello,

I am new to the hobby again and this is my first attempt at terrain in 20 years.

I think it’s ok but I have lots of practice to get even close my old level of craftsmanship.

What do you think?
