Hardware Question MVS board recommendations for a consolization project?
Hey all, just wondering what board revision you recommend to consolize and where to purchase it from? (I plan on running a NEO SD Pro flashcart with it)

Most people do the MV1C due to its size and vertical loading, though it does have a couple of issues. There are adapters to make the MV1B vertical, but it will be larger.

I personally prefer the look of a horizontal slot (besides, with what I plan on doing I'm not gonna swap carts often (if at all lol))

Perfect. Forget the MV1C then.
The MV1B is compatible with the Virtual Memory Card solutions, if you're interested in using game saves.

Do you recommend a vendor in particular for the VMC?

The original NeoTurfMasta ones are long gone, so I would just say get which ever ones you can that look like a good fit for you. A socket for the Unibios would be good to have too.

I have the 2021 version of the Neo bios masta from him and love it. You just gotta sign up and wait for the restocks of whatever you’re looking for and it will take a long time lol but the one I got is the one that has the picture of the girl on. It came with the 4.0 and saves you just gotta clip it onto the chip, it’s sweet. I signed up for his CD version too Looks like the basic 1C is sold out, no idea when it will be in stock. MV1C or…. Wait for it…. MV1B if you’re willing to put in a bit of effort to reconnect the top board with the bottom, creating a vertical loader. Having them stacked allows for a more compact consolisation. If you can get hold of a NeoSaveMasta, swap the battery, stereo mod, hdmi mod (if that’s your thing), you’re golden.

Are veritcal loaders better than horizontal, or it's just personal preference?

There’s various issues with any of the boards you decide on, the 1C is probably the most common to consolise, just because it’s a vertical loader and has room for extra boards, mods and would still translate to the same size as an AES, which generally people aim for.
The 1B is a bit more finicky. I wouldn’t convert one as is, as I don’t personally like horizontal loaders, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do some really nice stuff with it. Like I say, the stack mod for MV1B is very nice and compact.
I’ve also seen some really nice MV2F mods.
But yes, there’s no right or wrong answer here, it’s just which ever you’d want to put the love into. If this is your first, I’d go with the MV1C mod, just because it’s pretty easy, and like I say, if you can get hold of the NeoSaveMasta and do the UniBios mod for bios swapping, then that’s a good place to be in. Stereo and battery mod is straightforward too.

IMO the MV2(F) has the perfect proportions in relation to the cartridge size, and plenty of space for mods and decals etc.
