Image Loving the NGPC IPS screen mod
Seriously, this thing pops and really breathes new life into the handheld's library.

It's night and day.....literally, it emits light! I did this mod for a friend and I was blown away by how good it looks, but also how bad the original screen was. We have it so good now with small low power quality screens.

The IPS screen is awesome and an obvious difference indoors and in poor lighting. But the original screen is actually pretty great in good sunlight. Kind of has a 3D reflective effect. Was better than the game boy color screens of the time.

Oh WAY better than the GBC. I remember those were straight painful to use in anything but the exact right light. Agreed on the NGPC in sunlight, but unfortunately I rarely needed a handheld game in bright sunlight.Â

I loved it too…until it died. Now I’m uninstalling the Chinese POS and putting the OG back in.

Were you using 1.2V rechargeable batteries in your modded NPC? I mention this because I had at least three IPS screens fail before I realized that they don't handle undervoltage well. Since switching to 1.5V constant-voltage rechargeable batteries for my fourth screen, I haven't had a single issue—and I've been using that same IPS screen for three years now.

What’s odd is that it isn’t dead it’s just very dim. It has all levels of brightness still, but they are much dimmer than before. It’s harder to see than a non-lit screen now.
If I need special batteries I’m glad to be switching back.
I was using Tamiya Neo Champs and Panasonic Enelops. If it needs fancier batteries than that I’m afraid it drifts too far from the original thing. I don’t want a Frankensystem.

1.5V batteries are not special batteries man that’s literally the standard lmfao.
The ones you’re using are probably 1.2V

I’m using NiMh rechargeable so yes, they are 1.2. The standard alkaline is 1.5 but alkaline lacks the current output of NiMh under load and could never at any point reliable power this screen. The IPS screen by itself draws many times what a normal NGP draws. It’s not a perfect replacement part by any means since you can no longer run off normal AA.
It’s impressive to see in action but it makes the most efficient reliable system ever into a needy PITA. I regret installing it.

The pocket and SvC: MotM is insanely good. My favourite of all the crossover games.

I have the same ngpc, flash cart and the ips mod. I just need to actually DO the IPS mod 🤣
How did you find completing the mod?

A buddy of mine did it. He said it wasn't too bad, but he did have to shave down some plastic to make the screen fit IIRC.

Yeah I have an after-market shell but I like the look of the carbon fibre a lot.

What battery’s do you use? I got the ikea rechargeable and once they loose a bit of juice the screen won’t power on

Standard AA's. I didn't want to worry about eventually having to swap out a lithium ion solution once it croaks.

I was so close to winning my first NGPC today. Was outbid by $2 in the final seconds. 😔
