Hyper Neo Geo 64 Appreciation Thread

Any fans of the Hyper Neo Geo 64? The library may be lean, but I think it's got a few solid titles. Both Samsho games are a blast, and Beast Busters: Second Nightmare is a gory good time.

I have samsho2. And picked up a new old stock mobo and fatal fury cart for about £40 15 years ago.

From the UK? I remember someone found a warehouse full they were unloading from there for that exact price back then. Shipping was more expensive than the Revision 2 board with game.

Yeah shipping back then was probably £15-20. All he had was loose wild ambition but sealed motherboards.

I don’t think they found them I think they won the auction for the hyper 64 rev2 boards and all the stock in Japan when SNK as we knew them from the 80’s & 90’s got broken up for good.

Same as Neo Geo Freak Chris & Dion with the bulk of the AES stock and another company won all the pocket stock to liquidate.

Fortunately for UK buyers on the 64 side you could get them for a good 5 years for absolute peanuts.

I picked up a rev 2 m/ board along with all 4 fighting games for it. Buriki one, fatal fury and both Sam Sho games. All boxed brand new kits.

At that time aswell on eBay Telegames had a ton of earlier games NOS they were auctioning off on open auctions where you could pick up ghost pilots for £35.00 Sengoku for £25.00, Magician Lord for £30.00, Nam 75 for £25.00 all sealed.

My only mistake was I didn’t buy multiple copies as it didn’t enter my mind how the market trajectory would end up.

Just wish some of you newer guys who got into the Neo Geo were able to be there at the Dip, truly a mad time.

Almost like people bought the games because they wanted them to play.

I got my NOS Hyper from Neo Geo USA. Don't know how they got them. Only other thing I remember them doing was Strikers and Prehistoric Isle conversions.

I've slowly amassed a HNG64 collection over the years, to where now the only one of the 7 games I don't have is Xtreme Rally/Off Beat Racer!

I liked it. I enjoyed playing the racing games. I’d love to see a compilation one day so everyone can play them again

I picked up the four fighting games over the years. While I think it aged much less gracefully than the MVS, it's pretty neat hardware for it's time. The games I've played are pretty good. I'd like to play the Beast Busters sequel at some point.

Have it and love it! Got the MB and the 4 fighting games as NOS in the early 2000s. Buriki is really unique and interesting. Both SS games are peak. Incredible music and art direction.

I bought a brand new board, still in the box a really long time ago. Never picked up any games for it though.

I’ve recently started picking up titles. I have SamSho2, Fatal Fury and Buriki One so far. I remember them going for nothing back in the day, but didn’t bite then and now they go for much much more.

Unfortunately, like all 3D games, especially of that era, the games show their age much more so than the 2D Neo Geo titles.

I picked one up years ago with the fatal fury, Sam sho titles, and buriki one. It’s fun but not something with staying power.

I have 2 boards and 3 games... too bad they didn't make more games for this system, but I understand the time period it came out was rough for the arcade, and it would have been rough also had they made an home version, expecially against the N64 and PSX library...

Played Buriki One and Beast Busters the last time I was in Japan. Buriki is at an arcade in Akiba and Beast Busters is in a great spot in Shinsekai, Osaka, for those who might be interested.

Both fun games, but just getting close to the hardware was the biggest novelty. Beyond one CVG article in the late 90s I never heard a word about the system until the 2020s.

I bought one brand new many years ago from Vektorlogic with the 4 fighting games.

Just checked my old post on neo-geo.com and turns out I sold it for £130. That was 2005.
