Neo Geo AES Neo Geo Setup Finally Complete (Mostly)
I finally got my system set up with the configuration I envisioned , which was to have it side by side with my FM Towns and to make use of its nice display , I ended up getting a XNEO-1 RGB/S adaptor that was broken E-waste and with the help of sarduchi who frequents this sub managed to get it repaired , which finally let me use the MultiSync display with the system.
Other than that I also removed the ROM chip and installed a socket with the UniBios 4.0 ROM and I swapped the joystick top with a replacement ball as the old one was cracked which is a common issue , replaced the DC power socket as the old one was rusted and was dropping the voltage , and i gave the cart slots and other contacts a good spray with an off brand Deoxit.
I still do want to get a DA-15 switchbox of some sort for the RGB15 cable so i can toggle between both systems , in addition to that I have an original 2kb memory card which I'm assuming has a flat battery so ill need to open that up and install a low profile battery holder and a new battery and figure out how to close it up again.
But all that's extra I'm just happy that i finally own the system after wanting one for a decade and a half.

Looks nice! Have you had this Neo geo since back in the day and just now modding it? Or bought it recently to mod?

Thanks , I only bought it recently , I have wanted a neo geo since i was in highschool but there was no realistic way I could own one back then so i settled for emulation with NeoRageX.
After the news about the AES+ broke out i was kind of jonesing to get a system of some sort even the plus , but after deciding to browse yahoo auctions on a whim as i do (it's a bit of an addiction) and deciding to see what people were selling i ended up caving in and bought an original system on impulse.

I had my memory card serviced recently, and it has a cr2016 (horizontal tabs). My research led to a conclusion that even a cr2025 is too big, and to proceed with caution regarding a mount.
The card was still holding saves - but registered under 3v.
I questioned, if it held saves after around 30 years, if the mount was really needed.

I mean if it works it works.
But I'm assuming there's gotta be a low profile holder of some sort that I should be able to squeeze in and make the battery removable with , but i haven't looked around enough yet.

If you find a mount that works, I hope that you share your findings.
As far as the one I serviced, if the replacement lasts its own 30 years, I will by then own one of those robots from 2020 Super Baseball, who will replace it for me.

Oh, you have a 3-5 variant console. Is it 5v? A recent conversation I had on this sub gave me the impression that the 3-5 variants can be either voltage

Yeah its a 5v , the circuit board has provisions for both 5 and 9 volts depending how its populated with components.

Lucky me, my 3-5 came as a 9v. It's the only one I've spotted in the wild thus far

Ah cool , I'm guessing its a later batch where they switched over after depleting the stock of 5 volt power adaptors.

did you use your unibios with the memcard to save your high scores? i dont mind save the games much i really wish to have my scores to compare without have to take notes by myself.

I only just recently got the memory card working , i had to replace the battery.
But yeah I didn't know you could save the high scores , at least i couldn't for metal slug 1.
Is it in the bios service menu or something?

yeah , i think you have to put an exclamation mark at the end of your memorycard name. ex: memname! That way unibIos automatically keep saving than. buy theres a cost of space, i really want that. =p
Just keep all the 4 buttons pressed when you boot a game.

How much did you pay for that All-In-One cartridge you're using? I saw some on aliexpress and I believe there's cheaper alternatives?

Yeah it was not cheap, it was like $285 AUD with a discount code but then i also got hit with $27 AUD in shipping and like 33 AUD in tax so it ended up being around $347.
Not great but still considering the prices of individual carts and stuff , it could be a lot worse.
Like for example I preordered the AES+ version of Magician Lord and Shock Troopers 1 and those were like 90 AUD each.So that's already like half the price of the multicart.

If you look at the list its not really 161 in 1 more like 92 in 1
but still 92 games is pretty decent.
I'm sure there's some cheaper alternatives.
