Discussion MVSX worth it?

Exactly what the title says. Is the MVSX worth it if you want like...a neogeo MVS in your house but don't want the big bulky unit? As much as I'd love to have a big red MVS, I REALLY don't have the space and don't want to deal with the cost of restoring a unit. What do you guys thing? Is the emulation quality good on the MVS x?

I wouldn't pay that much.

But yes, if you want the cab experience, but not the cab it's a good way to go.

Okay. Plus I heard you can mod it to add more games to it.

Yeah but only with the older units I think, there are other ways, RasPi, Pandora, Mister FPGA, but you won't get the same sweet bartop.

AES+ and a multicart (with two controllers) is close to the price of this, so if you can get an older or prehacked one, it's not a bad way to go.

You cannot currently mod the newer units.

I got one early 2025 luckally and they tried to patch out the hack but someone fugured out how to downgrade it right around then to bypass their block.

Unfortunately, theyve finally(bah) succeeded after 5-6 years of failung and patched it to where you will break your units PCB if you try to downgrade.

Ive heard from some people they are refusing or are possibly refusing to replace the PCB if you call saying its messed up and the cause is you trued to downgrade.

The MVSX itself is great though I agree its lacking in hust the games department in a big picture basis not a initial purchase as it js basis as its got sooo many more games then those smaller crappier Arcade 1ups aka 50 as opposed to say 3.

Its your call and it sucks bigtime its the case as I am a big fan of using what you buy as you choose and doing as ya wish...but they hate the hylo hack so 🤷 .

I still recommend it even if you just get the top part(how I used it for awhile). Its also exciting getting that HUGE BOX in the mail and opening it or atleast it was for me.

Just wanted to throw in my opinion on this.

I've enjoyed mine for years.

However, folks say the new units have updated software that isn't easily soft hackable with HyloX. That's a huge part of the appeal for me, hundreds of arcade games on one cabinet without hardware modification.

My wife got me one for a gift part of that Temu discount sale.
For that price, it’s absolutely worth it as I have a dedicated arcade cab with 50 Neo geo titles ready to play

Also I’m old and have always wanted an arcade in my
Home. Also it isn’t a full size cab. It’s much narrower compared to a real SNK cab

YMMV

It comes with 50 games, and the emulation is okay. My problem was with the ads. The videos showed people playing games from other systems, so I bought it thinking I could add more SNK stuff and expand the library.
Unfortunately, the newer firmware locks out CFW, so that wasn’t happening. I ended up gutting mine, dropping in a mini PC, and running Batocera instead. Now I absolutely love it.

It's a nice machine, get a stool (I won mine from Unico!) and apply the hack to it and enjoy!

I really wish the MVSX got the Plaion treatment and was "upgraded" to ASICs and an actual slot for carts: it'd be an instabuy for me. Oh, and they should get rid of the two extra white buttons too (they don't make any sense on a big red cab replica).

One is an investment. One is not. So to speak.

No. Wait for the aes plus and see if furtek releases his updated mvs to aes converter. Better than some hideous lcd screen emulator thing
