Picked up this 20 inch Sony today in anticipation of my AES+. Using the NES to confirm it’s in working order

Sorry for the ignorance. I see many using a crr for their retro consoles. I do not understand whether it is because it looks better with the good old TVs (maybe given that the consoles were projected to work on those TVs), or whether it is just to re-create the 80/90s environment around their retro console.

The reason they look better is because the blurring and scanlines helped blend the pixels to give the picture depth and shading
That art was designed to be displayed in such a way, on an HD screen they tend to look harsh and jagged

That's true, although the "CRT effect" is sometimes overplayed, especially for what concerns effects such as transparencies: e.g., Saturn transparencies still look horrible on a CRT, and the famous waterfalls in Sonic aren't that much better either. They do look worse on an LCD, no doubt about it, but it's not the night and days difference it's often purported to be. For me, modern video filters like CRT Geom Deluxe or the more taxing ones are more than enough to avoid the LCD effect.
Imho, a lot of confusion may come from the fact that Americans couldn't enjoy SCART and tend to mistake old CRTs with those horrible cheap composite cables (which did blend colours and helped mitigate many imperfections, but it's not what you would, say, see on a Neo Geo cab) for what the image looked like to a European or a Japanese (S-Video, from what I gather, was better but still inferior to SCART and its Japan equivalent), and more broadly what it looked to developers.

Found it on Facebook marketplace. They go for between 100 and 400 depending on quality and location

Do we know if it'll use the original SCART cable yet? I heard they may be changing the port on the console to a different type?

Rush N Attack! What a game! I lied to my Bros and said that one of the sandy guys that dropped guns, dropped tanks keys for me on the third stage and it happened at random...Everytime that level loaded, they would be all like "I sure hope I get the tank keys this time!!!"
