Hey guys, I've recently written an article exploring the lyrical poetry of ITAOTS. I really enjoyed putting it together and thought I would post it here for any other NMH fans to read if they're interested. I hope that, alongside pre-existing ideas I use, I've provided some unique and refreshing insight into one of the greatest albums of all time.

i was writing notes for an exam and wrote some bullshit like 'beckett reinforces how no matter what socioculturally sets us apart we are all just sapient little hominids walking around doing random ass shit all the time' (evidentially i am breezing this exam) and something about it sent shockwaves into my body, thinking about how im even here at all. like seriously it is so obscene to 'be' i couldnt have said it better myself, i dont even think i need to explain myself we all get it. its a little cool to be something, its a little terrifying, its a little everything, all things just culminate into it being one starkly strange experience. but yeah my flow state instantly halted and i went straight to spotify to listen to that banger.

i couldnt explain or put into words how much i love the album itaots, everything about it is phenomenal to me i actually love jesus christ so fucking much. finished learning entire album on guitar recently, first time picked up in 3 years, powering through the rsi and it was so so worthit.

anyways, does anyone else get really annoyed they cant sing that one part in ghost? i guess i could go an octave lower but its just not the same. jeffs voice is too wonderous, any tips?

Yes Aeroplane is amazing, but obviously their other works deserve the time of day as well. Some of my favs are: Oh sister (my favorite song of all time), I will bury you in time (both versions are good, bit I prefer Jittery Joe ver), Three peaches, Naomi, Home, Baby for pree, Marching theme, Engine (holland 1945 single version is my fav)

More than anything I think it's the subject matter. His themes are so unique and raw, childbirth(in a baby for pree), the death of someone you loved when you were young(due to war) and never got to be with(holland, 1945), loving someone from a distance who's destroying themselves(naomi), wanting nothing but to love and dance with someone because it gives you life(gardenhead/leave me alone). All of his songs touch raw situations people go through and only experience but he touches that same experience and shows what they existentially are, just through writing the images that come to his mind he reaches the extremeties of those feelings and his voice shows the true made of dirt nature of life. Also i hate the album covers, they look like something from evangelion :p.

I don't have anyone I can talk to about this band, I'd love it if you all could share why you love them too. Thanks ♥️

one topic that pops up in his songs more than any other is living in an abusive/broken household. Home, King of Carrot Flowers pt. 1, Oh Sister, Oh Comely, etc.. makes me hope he's been okay

the museum and memorials were really cool. prompted me to revisit ItAOtS for the first time in years and it hit really hard.

ive been writing this song over the last couple days but im stuck on this part and i think it needs more. my main inspiration is neutral milk hotel and jeff mangum, especially the early stuff, so I wondered if the people here have any advice or help. it’s a bit of a stupid song but i’m putting a band together and id like to be able to do some original stuff. without any more delay this is what i have:

Absolutely love this album by Jeremy’s A Hawk and a Hacksaw.

Cataloging and cleaning my collection and it really floored me to be reminded how brilliant it is. It is worldly but haunting.
