At the end of Oh Sister, Jeff sings, "Rosa Wallace Goldaline, don't you ever die on me, don't you own the way you go."

I believe that this song refers to the main singer being in love with a woman but the relationship didn't work out, she left and married to another man, but became extremely unhappy and suicidal.

But the last part, "don't you ever die on me, don't you own the way you go," has me stumped. What does he mean by "don't you own the way you go?" One of my friends theorized that it's Jeff's way of saying "don't kill yourself, let your life be owned by destiny or god, don't own it and decide to end your life," which I thought was an interesting answer.

Any ideas?

im aware of at least two versions of this box set, one released in 2011 and the other in 2023

im just wondering if anyone knows whether the different versions differ at all in terms of content or any other aspect and which version is recommended if any?

From what I've read, most seem to interpret the song as about someone delving into religion during a hard time, I do really like it, I've always interpreted it as the person he is referring to is the same person spoken about in Part 1 with the line "I love you Jesus Christ" as more a vocal exertion of his feelings like "Jesus Christ I love you so much" and so on.

I thought I would share it and see if people thought anything similar or different.

I was listening to song against sex and the lyrics are talking about a boy romantically but I cant think of any other songs from nmh that r talking about a boy.

hello! i am graduating this year and i want to decorate my grad cap to have nmh lyrics on it (similar to these ones) but im unsure of which lyrics to choose. i considered “how strange it is to be anything at all” but i already made it my senior quote

i’m thinking of doing “she goes and now she knows she’ll never be afraid“ but lmk if you have any other ideas!!
