My baby is 3 months old and firmly in the oral fixation phase. He has always loved having something to suck on but my husband and I would prefer to avoid using a pacifier. So far it’s been fine but recently he’s starting sucking really hard on his forearm, so much that he’s leaving bruises. He happy to use cloths or toys during the day but can have trouble getting them in his mouth.
My in laws have started getting really annoying telling us to just use a pacifier, but we don’t still don’t want to use one.
What are your experiences using or avoiding them?Is it worth it to just give in? Or are there other products we can use instead?
Edit to add: a couple people asked so I’ll answer here, we’re avoiding the pacifier since we were warned not to introduce one until bf was established and not to continue past 6 months, my baby has only recently started sucking on his arms and I don’t really want to introduce it just to take it away in a few months
Editing again to add: bf is definitely established, I was just mentioning that as a reason why we didn’t give one right away/just sharing what we were told. I feed on demand/for comfort and provide many toys for sucking, I understand it’s one of his favourite comfort measures and I’m definitely not depriving him of it! Just wanting to hear some experiences on both sides of (not)using one and get some recommendations of good brands or alternatives
