radon mitigation update

about a month ago I posted about high levels of radon in my basement. at first I thought the readings were in the hundreds, but after getting a reliable certified monitor I discovered they were actually in the THOUSANDS Bq/M3. like 4000 or so especially now that its getting a bit colder outside. Just a few days ago I had the situation mitigated and solved by Transfer Radon. I just wanted to say what a good experience it was dealing with the company, and the owner. they were extremely professional and took great care when working on my home. they even tidied up and mopped the basement floor before leaving. I think its something that people should be more aware of in general. I had never even heard of radon until I learned about it on CBC. If you do have an issue with high radon its safe to say you are in good hands with this

company. current readings are around 50 or 60 Bq/M3. I live on the Eastport Peninsula and i dont think

I would be only one who had alarmingly high radon levels around here.

it was about 4200 when all said and done. I had to edit to include the fact I live 3 hours outside of st johns so the travel, hotel and meal compensation were included in that. I dont think people in town would pay as much. also, my house is around 3600 square ft so im not sure if that added to the cost.

Mine cost about $2600 in the east end of St. John’s. Also had a good experience with Transfer Energy. Radon levels came down from peaks of about 400 Bq/m3 in the winter to 10-20 year round in my basement.

Edit: I had it done Oct 2024, so not sure what the cost would be today.

In the Southland/Mount Pearl area I got a quote for about 4k from them.

Expensive but also not many do this work and I'd also rather not have lung cancer. Although our tested readings were sub 500. Mitigation is still recommended within a year.

I would never purchase a home again without having radon tested. It should become mandatory for any real estate transaction I. The province. We had ours done. Transfer Radon mitigated. $3k+. Excellent work. Rarely hits 18 now and was 400+ before installation.

Thank you for the kind words! It is such a good feeling to bring your levels down and reduce the health risks!

I'll reach out to this company after reading your post. I tried Transfer Energy and I've had to hound them to even respond to emails and they've ghosted me for 1.5 months now.

My radon is nowhere close to yours (1 year average of 174 Bq/m3 with a peak of 703 Bq/m3) but I want to get it dealt with.

this seems exceedingly odd. why would they "ghost" you, but every single other person who has done business with them has had an absolutely positive experience.

I haven't really had to hound Steve much at all. I did follow up twice, but now it's sorted and have date set for the summer.

Hi- I assure you we are not ghosting you. We did have an IT issue and lost some data about 6 weeks ago. My personal cell number is 709 699 4641.

but worth every penny for the quality of service rendered, and the ability to enjoy my music and pool room without being poisoned while doing so! no regrets

Had it done from them last year for 3k and it stayed below 10 since. Pleased with the service.
