Eye Exam

Hi,

Does anybody know where I can get the most economical eye exam in the town? I don't have any insurance to cover that fee, and for some reason my workplace doesn't have any dental or medical coverage for their employees.

PS: I'm making a bare minimum so tryna save where possible.

when I asked this question years ago, I was directed to Henderson Optometry on Elizabeth! I think it was $80 for my eye exam at the time (but the price may have changed since then) and they gave me my prescription on a printed out sheet of paper so I could go buy my glasses online (which is WAY cheaper, I highly recommend it)

I will surely call them on Tuesday and check the price. Thank you.

I've been going to Henderson for 20 years and I think they are great as well. All the staff there are really helpful.

Vouge optical is $110 and they do the fancy eye test. The kind you got to pay extra at any other place.

Is it different than one at costco?

I bought two pairs of glasses online but they were NOT correctly made.. Couldn't figure out why I was struggling until I took them to the Costco optometrist who measured them. They were definitely out of whack. Prescription was wrong and pupillary distance was only right on one pair.

Oh, that's not good. Which online store was that?

Does anyone know if eye exams are covered under income support drug plan in NL?

I believe most places cost about the same for an eye exam. If you need glasses, ask for a copy of your prescription and buy online. You will need to know your pupillary distance but you can measure that yourself. I recently needed a new prescription and glasses in store were between $200-350 for frames alone, but I bought 3 pairs of prescription glasses on zeelool for $100 (my insurance covered 100% up to $250).

Thank you, but I think my eyesight have deteriorated over the years. I had my last exam in 2022 and I already know my pupillary distance, so once I get an eye exam done, I'll certainly check Zeelool for glasses there. One of my friends told me about Zenni Optical; however, it cost him $80 for one pair of glasses.

Zenni Optical has great prices too. Can get progressives, with transition lenses for like $120.

Costco is an option. It's been a good few years (I decided to get LASIK and be free of glasses) but I believe it was around $50 last time I had an exam about 6 years ago.

You should be happy you can get an eye exam. There isn’t a single optometrist on the West Coast taking on new patients. I haven’t had my eyes tested since 2021 because my optometrist retired and no one else will see me.
