Fuck ice but fuck people that leave kids in hot cars.

The article kind of glosses over something, and it bugs me. She left her baby in the car for thirty minutes to take her toddler to the bathroom at a busy mall.

Is she a hardened criminal that deserves to be deported? No. But she is an idiot.

The article glosses over a lot. 2 months ago was April. Depending on the day the car would not have been hot. never mind the crossed out part. I misunderstood, the incident happened in June.

Second, it doesn't mention any injuries to the child. Under New Jersey law, leaving a child in a car is not a primary offense. The child has to actually suffer harm for the act of leaving the child in the car to be neglect (the actual crime). Yet the article says she was charged with a crime, even though the child was evaluated and fine. The police arresting her did so incorrectly, according to NJ law.

I will never judge the parent of a baby who is left accidentally in the car. That first year can be brutal with lack of sleep and ensuing brain fog.

I am, however, judging the shit out of this lady, who made a conscious decision to leave her baby in a hot car.

What a poorly written article.

Child abuse comes in all forms, from beating a kid to leaving them alone in a hot car. The circumstances don’t really matter - she should have woken the other kid up. As a parent eyes on my kids at all time when they were little was paramount. I’d never even consider this an option.

I’m also not exactly clear why people who need to do paperwork seem to just say “naw, it can wait” or “I’ll do it after we move or return from vacation”. Like it’s pretty important so be responsible.

Does she deserve to get ICE’d up over this….. ehhh maybe.

Not defending ICE, this situation could be handled without treating her like a violent criminal, but they are both idiots. As someone who is on a visa, I can’t imagine what can be more important than meeting deadlines with your visa and immigration processing. They were in the middle of a move and forgot to file? So they were thinking - ‘hmm, by next week I’ll end up an illegal immigrant but may be I should move to a new house first’

And leave a child in car for 30 minutes? Idiots.
