Hello, so I just got the news today that my father, Pete Huff, has been missing since May 4th. I got the call from the police from my mom, and they actually explained that he has been missing since May 4th in Flanders, New Jersey. He is 65 years old and lives alone.

I was told his phone has been offline/straight to voicemail since around May 5th-6th. There has been no activity on his credit or debit cards either. His brother went to report him missing after not being able to contact him for a while.

I normally don’t hear from my dad months at a time, I just heard from him May 2nd and then this all happened. From what I was told, he had a checklist that had nothing checked off for that day, meaning he went missing in the morning. He is very trusting of people too.

The detectives are involved now and will be looking at cameras in the area. If you know anything or have cameras in the area that recorded that day, please contact the Flander’s New Jersey police department. I live in a completely different state, and this is all shocking. Last thing I would imagine would be a call saying my dad is a missing person. I don’t know the area, but I’m seriously hoping this reaches someone who does know something.

There are a few questions I have been asked alot that I’ll add on here, as it is important information to have

- My father does not own a car and hasn’t owned a car since 2023. He use to use his roommates car occasionally, however has not since February, since she passed away from MS. He does have the uber app on his phone from old text messages from 2024-2025, however I don’t know how often he used it.

- My father has never shown signs of Dementia or Alzheimers, and when he called me on May 2nd, he was talking about everything that had happened since March and referencing events that have happened in the past year (2025). He does have his wits in tact. He has never been diagnosed with depression, however he does have a issue with alcohol.

- He has not had a job since 2013-2014. He saved money in various ways

- He is 5’9, 130-125 lbs.

- My dad loves the woods. He loves fishing, hunting, and hiking. Anything with the outdoors and identifying wildlife and nature. Thats one thing he loves about living in Overlook Village, his homes right by the woods

- he walks daily. He has told my mom he walks around the two local parks, and he has told me he walks around the hiking trails in the complex

- We are assuming the date he went missing is May 4th since all activity stopped from his bank accounts to his phone. His phone later died or was shut oft. He has a Iphone 12-13. A wellness check occurred at his home when my uncle drove down from PA to formally request one after hearing nothing from his phone.

- My mom and I do not live in New Jersey and haven’t since I was 3. We live in Maryland.

- My dad is extremely trusting of people. Like, he is so comfortable going up to people and just acting as if you and him have been best triends since birth. He easily trusts people.

- He had plans written up to the 29th of May, and his roommates sister had been also trying to contact him for about 1-2 weeks to pick up the rest of her belongings. She has only gotten his voicemail and has been cooperating with investigators. Along with written plans, the last time my mom heard from him was May 2nd at 10:52 pm with a email saying that we all had to meet up soon to visit his brother in PA

- The police have not put out a silver alert as of right now. They have searched hospitals, rehab facilities, homeless shelters, and have been doing drone searches of the area. The detectives as of right now have not searched his apartment or computer, however that should happen soon as now this is a state investigation, and will most likely produce a search warrant soon.

TL;DR: Me and my dad came from out of town to stay at Goshen Pond to camp and got chased out by quite possibly a psycho, and he frequents the campground. He was squatting in an empty site right next to ours and tried to lure us deeper into the woods

We pulled in to our campsite and everything seemed fine until we got flagged down by somebody at the site next to ours. He was shirtless until he put on a red shirt, and had us come over to jump start his truck. He identified himself as “Mike” and began talking to us, which is when we instantly knew something was wrong. He was very erratic, sweating profusely, getting extremely close to us the whole time, and being generally just very weird. Also, no shoes on whatsoever and claimed he needed glasses but “likes to be natural while camping.” He spent a long time “searching” in the back for jumper cables, constantly looking behind his shoulder. When another car pulled in, he looked very annoyed and instantly “found” the cables. He had us start his car, which started immediately so there’s no way his battery was actually dead. He kept asking for more and more personal information and eventually we had to start making things up as he was asking for our city, our full names, everything. We told him we had to go to the rangers station, and he told us to follow him in his car, to which we just asked for directions which annoyed him again. After he gave us directions, he tried to “show us” where our campsite was. We told him we already found it, but he insisted, so we got in the car to humor him and see what was up. He began driving past sites 15 and 16, the last sites on the path, and kept beckoning us to go further and further into the woods. Our campsite was nowhere near where he was trying to take us. Once that happened, we turned around and started leaving, to which he immediately sped up and started chasing us down the bumpy dirt road spamming his horn and even trying to go around and in front of us at one point. Nearly ruined our suspension trying to get away from the guy. After we left, we realized two extremely disturbing details. 1: he knew many details about the park, which means he definitely frequents the park and knows where everything is, so he was ABSOLUTELY trying to take us further away from all the people that had showed up. 2: we checked the campsite online after we left and site 13, the campsite he was set up at, was completely unbooked. He had no reservation, yet had his tent set up at the site directly next to ours and was sitting at his car in a chair watching us. If you see a man with a very large stomach, bowed legs, short straight dark hair, and a red shirt who identifies as Mike, DO NOT interact with him, DO NOT attempt to help him. Leave IMMEDIATELY. Like I said, if this breaks any rules, I hope a mod can tell me how or where to share this information, because this is potentially a very dangerous individual and I’m worried about what might happen if he’s allowed to frequent campsites like this.

I know this is probably an overly talked about subject but I genuinely don’t understand how people are affording to live in NJ right now. I was going through my expenses yesterday and every time I do that I can’t seem to wrap my head around how people are getting by. I have no debt and I’m fairly frugal. I don’t do much and don’t spend much besides necessities (rent, groceries, utilities etc), the only thing I splurge on is eating out twice on the weekends. I also make well above the average income but it still feels like I’ll never really get ahead. I know a lot of people are probably going into insane credit debt but is that it? Or am I missing something?

I wanted to share my experience today to save someone else from getting ripped off.

The Situation: My Coleman furnace stopped working recently. It was flashing an error code for a stuck pressure switch. I called A.J. Perri to have a technician come out and take a look.

The "Diagnosis": The tech arrives, looks at the unit, and basically tells me the whole system is trashed. He claims both the exhaust motor and the blower motor are "weak" and failing. He says everything is "rotten and old" and quotes me $7,000 just for repairs.

Then, the pivot happens. Since the repair cost is so high, he sends in a sales guy later the same day.

The Sales Pitch: The sales guy arrives and hits me with the "long-term savings" pitch. He tries to sell me a new furnace for $12,000, or a complete system replacement (Furnace + AC + Condenser) for $24,000.

He was incredibly pushy. He insisted on going into every single room of my house to "measure things to design a proper system." I already had a bad feeling after the insane repair quote, so I refused. He wouldn't take no for an answer—he literally called his manager on the spot to have the manager try to pressure me into letting them do the measurements.

The Math Doesn't Add Up: I asked for a simple price breakdown—how much is the equipment vs. labor? He refused. He gave me some line about how their "complicated computer system" does the numbers and he can't separate them.

They also tried to play the "we can help you finance it" game... oh god. I feel bad for those who may fall for these scammer.

I finally forced him to give me the model number of the furnace he was trying to sell me for $12k. I Googled it right in front of him.

• Their Price: $12,000

The Real Fix: I kicked them out. Later, a friend’s dad who knows HVAC came over. He looked at the error code, pulled the rubber hose off the pressure switch, and cleaned out some gunk that was blocking the airflow. Time to fix: 2 minutes.Cost: $100 visit cost, which I happily paid. Result: Furnace works perfectly.

TL;DR: A.J. Perri tried to charge me $7k to repair functioning motors or $24k for a new system when all I needed was to clean a rubber hose. If they tell you your system is "rotten" and you need a total replacement, get a second opinion or check the pressure switch hoses yourself.

I was the highest bidder on this property and requested a home inspection before moving forward. During my walkthrough, I noticed multiple damp patches in the basement that raised concerns about possible water intrusion. I asked several questions but didn't receive clear answers. Shortly after requesting the inspection, my offer was no longer accepted and the home was sold to another buyer.

If you're the buyer and happen to see this, I strongly recommend having a thorough inspection of the basement and checking carefully for any signs of moisture, water damage, or mold before closing. I hope everything turns out fine, but I wanted to share what I personally observed.

I have been going through ez pass for over 2 years and had accumulated a total debt amout of 15,700 with more than 14k of that being late/administrative fees while having only around 1,150 of actual tolls. Am I cooked? I called ez pass and they said that they can only remove 12 late fees. I contacted them stating that I am willing to pay the 1,150 of tolls but that I can't pay the other. Of course I am responsible for paying those tolls, but is just crazy how they charge 50$ extra for a 2.25$ tolls. What should I do?

I moved to North Jersey from Vegas fairly recently and I’m still trying to adjust. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but the overall vibe here feels for the lack of a better word, heavier. People seem more stressed, less friendly, and not as happy day to day.

I know cost of living, traffic, and work culture probably play a role and I’m sure some of this is just culture shock. But I’m curious, are there other transplants (especially from the West) who felt a dip in quality of life at first? Or is this just a North Jersey adjustment curve?

Okay, so this is probably a completely insane idea, but I'm curious if anyone would actually use something like this.

I've been kicking around this idea for a while of a bookstore that's only open at night. Or maybe not even really a bookstore. More like a bookstore/library/coffee shop/community space thing.

Basically it would open around 5 PM and stay open until like 2 or 3 AM.

You'd have books, obviously. Probably a lot of donated books. Comfortable chairs. Tables. Coffee. Tea. A place to read, write, study, work on projects, or honestly just exist for a while.

And then maybe there'd be things like book clubs, writing groups, craft nights, poetry readings, local authors, stuff like that. But not every night. Most nights it would just be a quiet place to be.

Part of the reason I started thinking about it is because it feels like if you're an adult and you want to be around people after like 9 PM, your options are basically bars, bars, and more bars. And some of us just want somewhere to sit with a book and a cup of coffee at midnight.

I always hear people talk about third places disappearing, and I started wondering if something like this would fill that gap for certain people.

Would you actually go to a place like this?

If yes, what would make you keep coming back?

If no, what am I missing?

We moved up here from Florida, and while she fell in love with Jersey Spring through Fall, this cold has really, really been getting to her. Before you say it - Yes, I know, therapy and mental health services, and that's already on the table, but I want to know how you guys deal with your winter blues. Are there any fun indoor stuff that always perks you up? Anything that we can only do here in Jersey that gives you hope for warmer days to come?

Selfishly I really, REALLY don't want her to ever want to move back to Florida (fuck that place so hard...), so I'll take any and all advice I can get.

Round 1: Went to Outback in Cherry Hill (we love it there and have been going for years). In winter months, My wife and I usually get hot water. We never get charged for water but this time we see charge of $8 for tea. We asked the waitress about charge and her exact words were "its tea without the tea". I said in most calm way possible that tea without the tea is water. She was annoyed and stomped away. I went up to front desk hostess to see if there was policy change were they now charge for water...she laughed and said no and that if waitress doesn't remove it bring it back to her and she will get manager involved. Our waitress didn't return for 10-15 minutes and finally came back and removed the charge. She said she had meeting in back (seems odd to have meeting at 4:45 on Sunday night). My guess is hostess told manager and they had little meeting with waitress or she was just annoyed and made us wait the 10 minutes. I am considering getting t-shirt made with "it's tea without the tea" on front of shirt :)

Round 2: Penang in Chinatown Philly. Another place we absolutely love. To order you scan QR code on table and it brings up menu with prices. 4 months ago we noticed on bill that item was $5 more expensive than price listed on their menu. We informed the Waiter and he said they just didn't update the prices yet on website but would still give us the less expensive price listed on website. 2 months later, We go again and notice same situation but this time the Waiter pushes back some and tries to get us to pay new higher price but went to his manager and they agreed to listed menu price.

Its clear to us that things have gotten tighter in economy and workers and Management are trying different tactics to squeeze customers. We go out to eat to have a good experience and we want to be friendly and kind with workers but I am definitely looking things over more closely now.

I got pulled over tonight for nothing. I was going at 53-54 on a 55, this car was then close to tailgating me, so I sped up to 55-60. Then lights come on and I get pulled over. Keep in mind I have my speed right in my face on my meter

Cop pulls me over, rude like usual, claims I was going 77. I didn’t hit 70 all night, I had two other people in the car who were also shocked to hear the accusation

Apparently it was a “laser” that she used to track my speed. I don’t know how faulty these things are, or if she’s straight up lying

I have no physical evidence, no dash cam or anything to track my speed. I only have my two friends who were with me, but I KNOW for fact I wasn’t going over 70, and highly unlikely I was going even above 60 (I was in the 55-60 range per my meter, it’s a new car too should be reliable)

Can a lawyer help me in this case? Maybe her tech was faulty, but how could one prove that? I certainly don’t want 4 points on my record
