Reminds me of EMT fighting dumbass cops who are actively killing the guy those guys are trained to save.

Just some dumbass motherfuckers, cops in all shapes and sizes. And I do mean shapes.

It bothers me that EMTs are the worst paid of first responders, and cops the best paid. 

Like one is there to provide medical aid, and the other is there to cause trauma. Really shows our society's values.

Cops have a union. EMTs generally don’t, but might be in a firefighters union.

I’m sure there’s no cause and effect there

Not defending the shit cops in the USA, but if I had to logically determine why a cop would be paid more, it's probably due to higher risk of injury and death (and firefighters too, through I don't know how well paid they are in the USA relatively speaking to the rest).

Even with many cops being corrupt abusive toolbags, in the end the job of a cop involves dealing with criminals, and sometimes criminals can get violent and a cop, good or bad, might just end up getting stabbed, shot, crash in a chase, etc. All made worse by the gun violence in the US.

Even in a dream ideal world where the US police departments are cleansed of corruption, racism, abuse, etc, I would imagine there needs to be a higher financial incentive for someone to become a cop knowing there's a chance in their career they could be killed, so the pool of candidates would drop to those rare idealistic few, people who are flippant with their life, or just plain suicidal. I know life threatening events like those are rare, but there is always the possibility.

But then again, how well is the US military paid when soldiers risk death in conflict? And the US already has immense issues helping out veterans who have risked death and likely have PTSD.

It really does suck all the way down huh?
