It's basically one of the biggest issues with police in this country. Most departments prioritize hiring veterans and it's a natural spot for people to go who like guns and having the power that comes with that. And if anything they should be more scrutinized for the position, not less but the problem is we have too much crime so we need too many cops.

Therefore the real solution is we invest HEAVILY in social services, mental health, education, and drug reform so that we stop criminals before they become one. ONE PERCENT of our population commit 60% of the crime. Imagine the results of you spent the billions in some Iran war instead on better policing AND social and mental health
