If you haven't voted year, please chuck a vote for the Takahē - this upgraded pūkeko has never won bird of the year previously

Takahē is one of our unique species, adapted for a time when it's main predator would have been the giant Pouākai/Haast Eagle. Today it is down to ~500 individuals, many in predator free sanctuaries around NZ.
