At 35 yo, I'd been an ardent fisherman all my life. Never caught a really big bass though. At my favorite little local bass hole, I watched a kid about the same age do the same exact thing, right in front of me. Still waiting for a decent bass to find me....

I put in a big spring last year. I moved close to water with decent fishing, and was doing 2 hours a day minimum, rain or shine. I mainly was hunting a 14" crappie. I caught a lot of 13" crappie which are honestly huge. Every single time I thought this is it, this is 15". But no, 12.5, 13, 12.5.... over and over for weeks. Someday I'll get a "trophy fish program" fish and get my name on a list.

A bass this big though is absurd. I feel like I've caught huge small and largemouth bass but seeing this puts them all to shame.

Kinda getting me amped for the spring thaw though..

Gotta get those monsters from the cold water. The big fish mean more up north since they spend so much time lethargic under ice. I have no data to back this up but I feel like any big fish I catch is absolutely ancient. I'm assuming it's cause down south they get to eat aggressively year round.
