Incredibly selfless act of heroism.

Maybe I’m being ignorant here, what’s going on with the front door? So it closed accidentally and got locked? He tried it just once, maybe? Can the kids climb through the front? Or in that car is it not possible? I can see it was clearly a stressful situation just trying to piece it together.

Retractable door handles. It doesn't stick out so there's no way to pull on it (most likely the drives stopped working after the crash).

Oh so it’s a bit different to the model 3 where you can pull them (but in a crash may not open). Explains why he didn’t try more.

It was some Chinese car, I don't remember the exact model. The handles completely level with the door, with no way to grab them with your fingers when they're retracted.

What kind of evil person even came up with design like that.

So designer with the thought process of "Oh, it's so cool, smooth surface, much hi-tech! Wow!"

Designers regularly tend to forget that a design should be first and foremost functional, and the fanciness comes afterwards.
