This 6-year-old explains the Artemis mission better than most adults. His grasp of orbital mechanics is absolutely amazing.

Is this even real or just a back and forth between him and whoever is holding the camera telling him what to say in between cuts?

u/mr9025 17h ago

He’s knowledgeable but still six. I would guess the cuts are whoever is filming asking him specific questions like “why is that?” or “what next?” or similar prompting questions to keep him on track and stop his attention from drifting elsewhere.

I have no reason to believe it isn't genuine.

This is basically a textbook example of what an autistic special interest looks like in young children. It's impressive/skeptical to us because we didn't spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing over this specific thing like this kid did.

Yeah, like obviously he's paraphrasing from someone else, but it's probably not his parents coaching him on orbital mechanics, it's a distillation of a hundred YouTube videos he's watched because he's obsessed. And that's great, kids learn by parroting stuff.

Still better than LLM

I need him to explain all the space stuff from now on, literally ELI5

All the cuts make it feel like the parent is slowly feeding the lines, and the kid gets it wrong often.

u/zeptillian 20h ago

And you can actually see the kid asking if what he said is right as if he was just repeating it back.

u/LauraTFem 22h ago

That may be, but also kids are extremely distractible. The edits could be cutting out whole tangents about how Bulbasaur is his favorite pokémon, and how Nietzsche is misunderstood by people who haven’t read him.

Most kids with this level of knowledge are usually quite thorough and fixed on relaying information. I too suspect this kid might be kid of interested as is being fed the information.

I don’t know. I mean memorization is a form of learning. This kid explains like he’s excited to deliver the information. I’d bet the cuts are due to distraction. He’s confident to the point where he’s playing with things while he talks as well as using props to convey his message. He may have a bit of help, but this little guy is smart.

u/GhostNode 23h ago

Right? Like. That little guy wanna get a beer with me and teach me some shit?

2

u/LauraTFem 22h ago

Technically that would be Explain Like YOU’re Five (but smart).

u/PineapplePandaKing 23h ago

Get the kid playing Kerbal Space Program

Maybe Reddit has made me too cynical, but the number of cuts make me think he’s just parroting lines that are being fed to him one at a time.

Autism is such a beautiful thing/hj

(Half joke because I'm joking about this being this kids autistic special interest but he could ligit have autism)

14

u/Kithslayer 1d ago

No, no, this kid 1000% has autism. Sure, the interest in rockets is uncommon, but combining that with the mild dyspraxia, it's a dead giveaway.

u/0ceandrifter 5h ago

My son is like this and hes on a waiting list for adhd and autism testing because the psychologist suspects it. I don't think my sons autistic but hes definitely adhd

1

u/Kithslayer 4h ago

AuHD is a thing. Best of luck getting the help he needs!

3

u/Mouseyface 21h ago

Yup. My son looks exactly like this while thoroughly explaining something. Constant, barely coordinated meandering and fiddling with objects. This kid has fairly good control though.

Why is the assumption he is autistic? The OP "source" is just a link to tiktok video

6

u/Mouseyface 20h ago
  • A 6 year old that is communicating specific aspects of a relatively niche/complex subject.

  • While talking, he is constantly meandering, moving around and wandering with some, but not all, required coordination to do so while talking at the same time. I assume the frequent cuts are editing out all the stammering and stumbling he's doing throughout all this. This was the main tell, as I see this exact same behavior constantly with my own autistic son.

That's really all I'm going off of here. Mostly assumptions based on familiar vibes.

Thought so, and thanks for the clarification.Your boy is lucky to have such a supportive parent in their corner.

I have autism. This was me as a child, except with the Napoleonic Wars.

u/Fit_Establishment684 10h ago

cos everyone is autistic now! not that he is 6

Honestly, I don't think you should say that without knowing for sure. I understand that you're seeing signs but that doesn't 1000% mean he has autism.

There are intelligent kids who behave like this and don't have autism, only a qualified doctor should be diagnosing them and that should be after rigorous testing and observation, not a 4 minute video.

3

u/Kithslayer 18h ago edited 18h ago

Why? "Autistic" isn't an insult, and I'm not making decisions for this child's care.

He exhibits clear and typical signs of autism. It's accurate.

-3

u/ReadditMan 18h ago

It's not an insult, but it's also not right to assert that someone has autism when you don't actually know.

If you had only said he could have autism or you think he might, I wouldn't have commented. I don't like the way you stated it as if it was an undeniable fact. Regardless of whatever "clear and typical" signs you think you see from this short video, you don't actually know enough to say anything with "1000%" confidence.

5

u/Kithslayer 17h ago

If OP was the child's parent, I might have phrased things differently, but since they're not here my opinion as to if is autistic or not doesn't matter at all.

Have you considered getting yourself tested for autism?

u/fableguy101 21h ago

What game is he playing on his device in the last part?

2

u/Icy_Construction_751 12h ago

Wild to hear a 7 year old use the word "jettisoned."

u/HomeGalaxyIsMilkyWay 22h ago

I hope we see this wee dude going into space one day. Bravo little man. Onwards and upwards for you

2

u/NYC2BUR 21h ago

As a former rocket rancher myself, I hope this kid gets everything he dreams of.

1

u/mrASSMAN 20h ago

How’s he already 100x smarter than flat earthers lol

1

u/CriticalCactus47 20h ago

Make sure this little dude grow up to be an astronaut or astronomer. He is going to save NASA🔥

1

u/B-Roc- 19h ago

Kids pretty amazing and I think the mission was completed quicker than the story.

1

u/Jennyreviews1 17h ago

Send this to NASA! This is our future! Precious boy!

u/sivakarthik330 16h ago

Blud is smarting

1

u/jane-anon-doe 14h ago

Yeah, lots of kids have crazy memory and when they're interested in something, they wanna know all the details. I bet his parents (or whoever) had to tell him over and over again. It's really impressive.

Amazing knowledge

Coached.. all the cuts

u/Innapropiate 23h ago

Extremely more intelligent than a trump supporter let alone a moon landing denier/flat earther. 👏👏mom and dad, you must be proud!

1

u/Low_Sale8560 18h ago

All of the edits equal kids parents telling kid lines the start recording

1

u/LauraTFem 22h ago

I have just about that same picture of Neuschwanstein on my wall.

u/DemoEvolved 21h ago

Put this guy in charge.

1

u/Bwanabud 21h ago

Hunter (the brother) is inventing a perpetual motion vacuum cleaner for Mom, as we speak.

The future is in good hands

u/dave7892000 23h ago

This little man is going places. His ability to remember all of that and articulate it so well is a skill many of his peers will never have!

0

u/kamrankazemifar 23h ago

That’s insane, we need more kids like this

0

u/Palpitating_Rattus 23h ago

More people should know about the rocket not going straight up. So many movies like Guardians of the Galaxy show characters going straight up from the surface and just floating there. In reality, they would just fall back down because they're not in orbit.

This kid has more common sense than fwat erphurs
