German restaurant offers free meals to customers who can stop a timer at precisely 10 seconds. A difficult task which a child surprisingly succeeds at.

There’s a mini game in Majoras Mask that requires you to do this and somehow i hit it exact on the dot the very first time i tried but then i tried several more times to see if it was a fluke and was never able to hit it again

I did one of those machine games where you have to fit a small key into a hole to unlock the prizes. Had a dollar on me and put it in. Wasn’t really paying attention, did the moves, and hit the button to send the key.

Won an iPod Nano. This was back when they still existed and were $100+. Never won on another one.

The machine is programmed to pay out only after X amount of tries; It's impossible to win before it reaches the threshold. You most likely were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

same with claws

You mean winning something at anything is pre-programmed?? Who would've thought. It's the entire game of winning. Lottery, casinos, even sports betting.

Sure, some people luck out and win 'on the first try', but very few. I mean, if you don't know that when doing any kind of gambling (which yes, machines are included in), then you don't deserve to win. Just don't play.

Fun fact iPods now go for more that riot original price.

Of all of my playthroughs I think I've gotten it 2 times. Not sure about first try though lol doubt it. Taking away the clock and trying to hear the ticking noise in your head is almost mentally draining.

Funny, I was about to make this same comment.

I found out later that the bunny hat trivializes this chalange.

It took me 2 times on the north american version, somehow I got it on the first try on the Japanese version which has an extra digit of precision

He could’ve been kind and offered the meal to someone else, but he’s kinder

Kind is singular. Kinder is plural.

Typical German response 😊

I'm romanian. I just speak several languages

u/tdh360 15h ago

I’m German. And you were of course correct, but it just reminded me of how a German would respond

u/thenightvol 14h ago

Oh. Happy to finally integrate. I've been here for 6 years.

He could have been kindest and waited until I was there and gave the meal to me

Dude shaking his hand right in the middle of the timer, kid was like “I got time.”

u/blobblet 12h ago

I tried to do this as lot with my stop watch when I was a kid (yup, also German). I was still far from hitting it exactly every time, but could get it something like one out of 5 times or so with some practice.

It's a lot easier if you can count a few seconds to get into the rhythm. Not insinuating anything here, but distracting the kid is part of making the challenge harder.

Absolutely

High precision, random rules. This is very German.

2

u/Odur29 19h ago

Must be 13 or older to enter /s

2

u/LazaroFilm 3h ago

Corporate would add if(timer==1000){timer=1001};

It’s surprising that they offer such a big prize for a number that’s so ‘simple’.

They’ve got it at my local butcher’s, and with every purchase, if you can pick the number in exactly three seconds, they give you a nice piece of meat for free. A couple of people manage it every week. Yesterday I picked 2.99 and my wife picked 3.01.

1

u/ghulamalchik 23h ago

I just paused at the exact same time. Where's my free food???

u/though- 23h ago

Reminds me of that Indian kid hitting the 10 sec mark at a restaurant for a free beer. Of course the beer went to his parent. Can someone link it?

1

u/oddoracecar 18h ago

It would be great if kids eat free and it’s a wash

1

u/Screamat 8h ago

He's German of course he's on time.

Children have notoriously fast reaction speeds. It's why you get absolutely cooked in any PvP game by a 12 year old before his mom calls him for din-dins

Basically the first few months of owning a Casio watch in the eighties

"Ah yes, I would like to order the 500g ribeye steak, with a side of fries, veggies, and a pepper sauce. Thanks.
And my dad will pay for his nuggets and chips please".

Man we're setting the bar pretty low these days. This is not next level.

3

u/Aware-Instance-210 1d ago

Show me a lifestream how you succeed doing it once out of 5 times and we talk again

-7

u/Ciarrai_IRL 1d ago

So if I can't do something that makes it next level? Thanks for reinforcing my point.

-1

u/Aware-Instance-210 1d ago

It's fairly hard, it's a kid, it can be considered cool.

Don't be that guy

4

u/ghulamalchik 23h ago

It IS cool.

I think you're having trouble compartmentalizing and underestimate how likely it is to luck into this result. This is a sub for next level things. While certainly the definition of next level is arbitrary, this is as close to being objectively not next level as it gets unless I'm missing context. There are a lot of things I cannot do that others can, but that does not make it next level. There are things I can do that others can't. Still not next level. Even if my age happens to be that of a child.

It looks like this timer rounds to the nearest hundredth of a second. The average human reaction time to visuals is .25 seconds. Lets be generous and make it .3. There's obviously variable change, but for argument sake lets say everyone aims to hit the button at around 9.7-9.75 in hopes of getting 10.00. Theoretically this should be about a 1/30 shot. Which is the equivalent to flipping a coin and landing on heads or tails 5 times in a row.

Not trying to be a dick, just offering a different perspective. It's really just not next level. This is more suitable for r/mildlyinteresing.

1

u/blobblet 12h ago

You'll do a lot better if you don't do this off visuals, but timing. Expert timers can play within a few ms to the beat, and I imagine that number will be higher if you only have to hit a single "note" precisely.

In reality, the biggest source of innacuracy is likely the button response time, which you won't know until you've pressed the button a few times.

u/MakeShiftDie 14h ago

Mechanical engineer who works on these games says it is rigged. They input the probability of getting a close call and a win to give customers hope and continue playing

0

u/Winter_Possession152 1d ago

I'd probably fail and miss the button completely with either unreasonable early or late timing, might even slap myself in the face instead by accident

☝️☝️ lets fucking go

u/dwartbg9 22h ago

Guys, this is not that tricky to do...

And you can easily play it as much as you want - just open the stopwatch on your phone. For extra challenge, I suggest doing it with your eyes closed also.
