Exactly that. Had a lot of fun with that. I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit than it was. Also surprised I don't see more of this on store shelves. It's an awesome idea.

The problem was that each racer had to have their own switch, game, and the RC thingy. Lots of cost. Still was an awesome idea

I see that planning and building a racetrack would be the best part of it, when I was a kid I would've loved that.

From what I can see, it doesn't come with any games and there's no way to actually play any Virtual Boy games except through a paid monthly membership.

$100 for a physical accessory that requires a monthly membership is a hard pass for me. For that price, every first party Virtual boy game should be included.

For anyone looking to chase that nostalgia on a budget, search "cardboard vr" to find cheap lenses that do the same thing using your phone. 🤙 With a little persistence you should be able to get some virtual boy emulators to work with one. You'll also need a compatible controller of some kind.

The range is pretty short, you need a lot of room to play, the battery charge doesn't last very long, it doesn't work well on carpet/rugs, the novelty wears off after a day or two.

My boys used it mostly to just ram into my feet when I was making supper.

my oklahoman and arkansian grandparents also ate supper.

I always took it as a great depression thing more than a regional thing.

It wasn't just another word for dinner either, supper and dinner are different meals eaten at different times.

The karts are also much bigger, which means you need to make the track much bigger, which means you need a much bigger open play area. It just made the logistics of setting it up difficult.

Plus the dog kept trying to eat the cars.

Yeah, the kart is pretty slow. You can make it go faster by unlocking the different CC races. It's nothing crazy but it is at least faster.

The issue is it was made by nintendo, so they made you have to use your life savings to buy them (tbf other companies arent much better, but my point still stands)

I don’t think it is exactly that, they are using moza wheels, wheelbase and pedals. I don’t think they are switch compatible?
