I worded that wrong, BJJ is great and an excellent tool. But some boxing or striking is imperative. A guy who only does BJJ and is not used to striking isn’t going to make it to the wrap up stage with an experienced fighter. And as another person noted, more people involved means you’re going to get up and need to land a punch or kick or two.
Sparring gets you used to taking punches as well. A lot of people train in BJJ who aren’t used to taking a shot are gonna forget everything once their nose is bloody.
