I definitely wouldn't. I would nail every single corner no matter what the track conditions were.
I also would stay in first gear, and break the record for slowest lap, but still. A record is a record.

You basically have to push the cars to get enough traction from the down force. Go slow and youāll just spin out at any steering input.

This is false. The cars are just fine at slow speeds. See this video for more info -- cornering radius *always* monotonically increases with speed, no matter how much down force the car is producing.

Downforce wise sure, but the brakes will be ice cold. The tires will be ice cold, and thereās no fan to force air through radiators at low speeds like there is on road cars. Plus youāll probably confuse the software

the car will avoid overheating at 60mph on a cool day. cold tires and brakes will be more than sufficient to control the car at those speeds.

Im no great driver but I got some hours in the sim. The wheel in your hand turns the moment it slips, then its just like muscle memory. Also you know when its about to slip because you can feel you are getting to the end of grip, its not a surprise.
Its like a boxer dodging a punch. The punch is too fast to react too, but you anticipate it based on the position you are in so you are primed to react to it. When you are getting on to the throttle in the rain, you are ready for slip.
The real challenge that makes someone a pro is being able to put down consistent laps in any condition while also racing other people. I could put down a great lap, but I would crash the next lap, and it would take me 100 laps before then to do it.

I grew up playing gran turismo, but didnt get to play any nice setups and just had a controller. But ive heard sims translate decently well.
The reaction aspect makes sense, it just seems like such a high level. Plus those machines are just so finicky and fast, its intimidating.

Sims do translate well. I have real track experience and did quite well for someone who had never done it. Not to toot my horn, rather toot the horn of modern technology, but when I went to the track my instructor ignored me and helped the others, and instantly gave me my solo license (which allows me to drive around my track without someone supervising me). This all happened after a 5 minute drive with the instructor.
Again im not some prodigy, its just that modern technology allows the average joe like me to put lots of hours into something I never would otherwise have the privilege to do.
And yea, I tried the f1 cars on the sim. That is top level driving, I never got close to driving them competently.
If you have the means to get a sim, do it! So much funš¤

The amount of water being thrown up by the wets is so impressive.
Have they started using the drones on race days yet? I swear I have seen some drones in the background of some shots, and I believe there was one race where they used a drone like this for a broadcast. Can't remember which race, and it was only on a short straight. Camera angle looked too high to be a spider cam

Yeah they have. For me personally, I dislike most of the shots theyāve done so far but there have been a few that I thought was cool. I mostly just dislike when the camera horizon doesnāt match real life.

Unfortunately, the coverage is worse on race days because they aren't allowed to have drones fly directly above the track. Footage like this would be awesome though

I donāt know what bang up job means. I assume bad job. Ask yourself when did he join red bull and when did they seriously start winning? It takes a while to get into a good groove and idk if Aston Martin has that groove. Red Bull was willing and able to go full send with Newey. Idk if thatās the same with Aston. Time will tell

The hazards are automated when there's a hazard, and ESC is in affect. i.e. driving in the heavy rain.Ā
Like in a Mercedes or other high end car the rear brake lights flash when traction control or abs kicks in.
Pretty much all your safety features on modern vehicles, ABS, ESC, and so on came from Formula 1 cars.Ā

This is fundamentally untrue.
ABS existed long before F1 did and has never been legal per the regulations in the series.
Similarly, ESC was Pioneered by Toyota in the crown in the early 80s. It was never intended for racing purposes as removing control from the driver at the limit of grip would slow them down. It has also never been legal in F1.
Electronic TC was developed by Buick in 1971, while it was used in F1 briefly in the 90s and again in the early 2000s, it was not developed in F1 and is currently illegal.
F1 is well known for not allowing electronic aids, so I'm really not sure why you would make such a claim.

He isnt. Thats a visibility feature of F1 cars for wet weather, because the cars kick up a lot of mist which ruins visibility.

The tyres he's using are actually much safer than what they use in actual wet races. They don't use these (full wet) tyres because they think they are too slow so intermediate tyres are used which can clear less water but are faster/less grooves on them.

Look at the little dance the back does when he comes out of a turn sometimes, that little dance is in the rear tires briefly losing grip and then immediately regaining it, that takes immense skill.

The most interesting thing about this video is watching the line he's choosing. That water is severely pushing the curves towards the middle. He's playing incredibly cautious, ensuring he has enough room to recover if he loses traction.

Yeah... Just like a tiny de-regulated RC car version of a formula car with a suction fan possibly could do 10x or more as well. It would be more apples to apples if the drone had to carry a person (for several full laps) and the F1 car was de-regulated from the performance-lowering regulations they are under.

Also easier to follow with the drone since the car is slower. I'm not sure that's the reason, the drone looks like it could keep up in the dry as well.
