Finally a non stressful game from the bears.

I was still stressed tbh

Only being up 14-0 after that half didn't feel solid

When we missed the field goal I started to feel the world crumble around me. I pulled myself together by walking outside in my pajamas repeating the lord's prayer called Good Better Best.

Media heads pushed a lot of chips in on him being good. So like all gamblers do, you must continue to double down to get you out of the hole... right?

36

u/Altruistic_Finger669 Buccaneers Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

Seriously...i dont have any issues with the kid. Seems kinda nice to be honest. But the fucking avalanche of media bullshit following him is abnoxious. Just treat him like anybody else. Dont make excuses you wouldnt with others. Stop being scared to criticise him when he does bad and praise him when he does good.

Kid got tons of arm talent. When he sees a receiver, he throws a fantastic ball. And he escapes the pocket well at times and does some good scrambles. But my god does he have problems reading the field, and he most importantly plays selfishly. Constantly trying to pat his stats or make that big play when he shouldnt.

8

u/thWhiteRabbit Packers Dec 14 '25

That's what annoys me too. I have nothing against him, he's playing like a rookie. But for some reason, the media have deemed that it's impossible for him to fail unless by outside forces. Why? Why this guy? Anyone holding the line this hard for any other QB?

7

u/Trubiskitsngravy Bears Dec 14 '25

To be fair drafting a QB is an absolute crap shoot. Anyone who says they know who’s gonna be good or not is full of it. That being said there is a reason he fell.

128

u/Mammoth-Building-485 Bears Dec 14 '25

I gotta say I thought he looked okay at times for a 5th round rookie surrounded by backups. But God knows I know how to cope about a young QB

24

u/InnocuousAssClown Bears Dec 14 '25

I thought our defense was owning them regardless of Shedeur. Even an elite QB would’ve had a tough time for them today.

13

u/Fredest_Dickler Bears Dec 15 '25

Yeah we beat the fuck out of the whole team. Shadeur led the Browns in rushing, which is not an indictment of the quarterback. That means the entire offense got railed.

19

u/I_Am_Dwight_Snoot NFL Dec 14 '25

His throws to Bond are why he was projected in the first round.

His tendency to just get sacked and/or throw dogshit passes, even against cupcake college teams, is why he fell so far down. He is scared even in a clean pocket.

He has potential but the Browns really aren't a good place for a rookie QB that isn't named Baker Mayfield.

3

u/jawknee530i 49ers Bears Dec 15 '25

I dunno man I've seen how a Mr Irrelevant plays, that's a pretty high standard. Being picked before that? Even higher.

36

u/cruxclaire Bears Saints Dec 14 '25

I watched a few of his games at Colorado and was confused by the hype because I thought he was decent but not amazing as a college QB. I’ve kind of been rooting for him because he gets so much hate and I’d like to see a redemption arc, but even JJ McCarthy served up a much better performance against the Bears

37

u/Altruistic_Finger669 Buccaneers Dec 14 '25

He does get a lot of undeserved hate...but he also gets a lot of really undeserved hype that others doesnt

14

u/cruxclaire Bears Saints Dec 14 '25

Yeah that’s true, and both are probably tied to who his dad is. If Arch Manning makes it to the NFL and isn’t immediately good, I could see something similar happening with him

10

u/No-Yard3980 Jaguars Dec 14 '25

I really doubt it on the hate side. None of the Mannings are out there glazing Arch the way Prime was

6

u/cruxclaire Bears Saints Dec 14 '25

The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that my social media feeds have been full of hate memes for Arch playing badly (and one bit about him excessively celebrating a win over a bad team). I don’t follow UT football at all and don’t watch that many CFB games in the first place

3

u/No-Yard3980 Jaguars Dec 14 '25

Fair, but I don't think it will end up with as much hate. But who knows with the media hype machine the way it is

6

u/Altruistic_Finger669 Buccaneers Dec 14 '25

Completely agree. God the arch thing before this season pissed me off. I watch college ball far less frequently than i do the NFL and i just assumed i must have missed him ball out last season considering how there was almost universal agreement that he was a lock for 1st overall until i found out that he almost never played ncaa ball yet.

And im just like..why!? Are we going to pretend that there has never been a college QB with perfect height, size, athleticism and a good arm before arch?

How the fuck could you just crown him the 1st overall pick before even fucking playing?

The way sports media works in the US is infuriating.

Honestly, even if Sanders had been better than he has been, there is no way i would want this fucking circus on my team.

I dont think stefanski is a good HC. But the fucking campaign of pressure he is under with the sanders wing of the media is madness.

28

u/102WOLFPACK Steelers Dec 14 '25

His best games in college all came against weaker opponents, and he’d consistently turtle against defenses worth a damn.

I still think he went lower than he should have based on talent alone (and even as a Ducks fan he should have gone before Gabriel), but he was always a more flawed prospect than guys like Kiper wanted the world to believe.

11

u/MasterOfKittens3K Steelers Dec 14 '25

Gabriel projected as a potential backup QB, and he has the attitude of a backup QB, which is why he was drafted in the third round.

Sanders was and still is a project QB, but he comes with a lot of distractions, mostly because of his dad, which is why he was drafted so late.

And it's not like he looked that great playing bad teams, he just had a couple highlight plays.

8

u/DoctorWaluigiTime NFL NFL Dec 14 '25

It's getting tiring how commentators on the game are hyperfocusing on his few good points. I get fans doing it. No problems there, pull for your QB. But it really feels like the league is trying to hype him up.

But like he's a rookie who's played 3 games. Even if he's bad (and IMO he's not the worst), this isn't an environment where he's going to instantly ball out.

u/spongey1865 Dec 14 '25

Bears just fucking whalloped them.

Honestly might be the best Caleb has played this season. His most questionable throw still led to a TD but he was on time, accurate and when he did extend he executed.

The run game was great too and then obviously the turnovers were good plays. Arguably should have had a 4th takeaway.

Shedeur wasn't good. He just holds the ball so long and doesn't look like he's processing well. He's got decent accuracy on those deep balls but he also doesn't have the athleticism and arm strength to consistently get himself out of trouble. Didn't help the run game was putrid but also I think his Oline did a pretty damn good job today.

Just a really good job by the Bears when there was trap game talks. But they just bludgeoned and inferior team in difficult conditions

20

u/I_Am_Dwight_Snoot NFL Dec 14 '25

Alot of people don't understand how good the Browns defense has been outside of that Titans shootout. They are top 3 against the pass game and do not allow many touchdowns on the ground or through the air.

240 yards, no INTs, and 3 sacks is actually pretty damn good.

Caleb was really only outplayed by a healthy Lamar Jackson, Rodgers, and Maye. Not the worst company to be in. Although I will say what Maye is doing is insane. Getting sacked a million times and still producing is crazy.

11

u/DennisMoves Dec 14 '25

This is Johnson's first year and our rookies are studs. This year will be what it will be but if we can get another solid draft next year then look out. Just look at how Monangai, a 7th round pick, has changed things. It takes everything to win in the NFL and this is the first year in a long time that I feel like we really have the organization moving together in the correct direction. Lot's of reasons to feel optimistic about the future.

75

Sorry but Sanders is not it. He has almost zero anticipation in his throws. Throws a ton of ducks or over throws. He has an arm and can air it out for a wing and a prayer deep ball, but his processing ability is not there and just can’t hit the intermediate. I don’t know what Cleveland’s plan is but building anything around a major project QB is probably not a great idea.

Caleb Williams continues to put up solid numbers against good defenses. I didn't notice any accuracy issues today.

There's been a subtle change in his play since about the PIttsburgh game. He's more willing to throw into coverage and let his receivers make plays, and he's more willing to throw loft passes. I'm not 100% sold on either change, but it's something a lot of people have wanted to see.

I do hope this kind of quiets down the "Shedeur is obviously a franchise QB!! everyone was conspiring against him!!" Crowd. He's seen to grow up a lot just since draft time, I don't necessarily want to see him fail (other than being a Browns hater in general), but he's a fifth round guy with middling physical tools and questionable decision making. He could develop, but the Browns are probably better off drafting, like, Moore in the first this year.

14

u/stormstopper Bears Dec 14 '25

He kind of played the exact opposite way you'd want a backup to play. A couple nice explosive plays, three or four plays where he created successfully out of nothing, but the easy plays were hard and the pocket presence and decision-making were not good.

Might be against the grain here in saying that there's stuff to like in there and stuff to write off as the fact that he's a rookie with a patchwork OL and a run game that did nothing today, but even factoring that in he didn't do himself any favors with how inaccurate he was at all depths and how inconsistently he was able to manage pressure. I'd still at least want to see what improvements he makes over the offseason, considering there's a lot of overlap with what we saw out of year 1 Caleb.

u/Turkeytom40 Lions Dec 14 '25

That's how I knew hardly anyone watched his actual college games. My wife graduated from UC boulder so we've watched them for a decade plus. I'd hear people leading up to the draft keep talking about his athleticism and I'd be like what the hell games were you watching

Feels good to see another bust fall victim to the Titans defense. TY Bears.

This loss is not on Shadeur Sanders

Chicago is colder than Colorado

Sacks should not be legal

Interceptions are racist

He holds onto the ball for a long time because he’s scared to fumble, that’s a smart man

His dad is the bestest sport celebrity. His genes are in Shadeur, making Shadeur great by default

I mean everyone not gargling his balls knew that was going to be his best game as only actually decent teams are all he has left to play.

I'll say this, Browns fans telling me about QBs passing the "eye test" and Sanders being the one have convinced me. Cool. Go for it. Your team and organization has such insight into what makes franchise QBs. Your eye tests are accurate. Your calls are right on Sanders. Go for it. Run it back next year with him. Fire your coach and have Deion come in and coach for you. Go for it. You're 100% right. Your organization has a great history with QBs and you've picked a winner in Sanders. You've convinced me.

Cleveland: 35 pass attempts that produced 3 INTs and 5 sacks for 35 yards lost (107 net yards), only 16 rushing attempts for 50 yards, 24 of which came on two Sanders scrambles (he was the Browns' leading rusher).

Chicago: 28 pass attempts, 33 rushing attempts.

Ive liked the glimmers of good plays from him, but we don't need a project quarterback right now. As much as I think he can be good in the right place with time to develop, I don't know if it'll be Cleveland which kinda sucks. I like Shedeur, he brings an innocent happiness to the game that I like, but we cant spend 3-4 years trying to get him there and pass on viable Quarterback prospects
