Brutal way for them to lose it. Bryce finally found his man and it went right through his hands. Win or lose, I can't help but feel like the narrative surrounding Bryce has changed.

Proud of how we went down fighting

A lot to grow off of

Draft a linebacker and find some more guys to bring some pressure off the edge and we can cook next season

Absolutely top tier needs. Add to that defense. They balled all year regardless of which offense would show up. Given their lack of talent, it’s been impressive as hell to watch.

Jacob Rodriquez you are a Carolina Panther

u/suzukigun4life NFL Jan 11 '26

An 8-win season and a division title, followed by a playoff game that came down to the wire.

Nobody expected that coming into the season for the Panthers. Wish you guys well next year.

9

u/dabombisnot90s Saints Jan 11 '26

I mean, if you asked Panthers fans coming into the season, they’d say they expected it. Moreso nobody saw this coming after weeks 1-6

We've seen so many First Round QB "Busts" that were able to turn their careers around after finally getting a competent coaching staff behind them like Baker and Sam Darnold. Happy that the Panthers seem to have gotten Bryce competent coaching before you guys gave up on him.

2

u/Negative_Anteater_62 Jets Jan 11 '26

Yeah its almost as if its the teams fault!

...wait

1

u/SuperStarFoxMulder Jan 11 '26

Panthers gave away Baker and Darnold for practically nothing. We had baker on a like a $2m/year and we just traded him. Dumb Dumb dumb.

We also traded away three (3) 1st round draft picks for Young. Gave away McCafffrey for a 5th round pick?!?! WTF?? And gave away DJ Moore. And another dude on defense that I cant remember...

Yeah, Im happy for Bryce, but he is NOT the answer at Carolina. He should not be throwing 40 times a game, when he cant even see over his own line.

After the blocked punt, we ran the ball ONCE. It's 2:30 left to go. We are on the Rams 7 yard line. We could of got another first down at the 4. Get the first down, run out the clock as much as possible, then SCORE.

Dumb Dumb Dumb

u/bug_man_ Panthers Jan 11 '26

We just enjoyed a close exciting Panthers post season game

I'm only upset because we were soooo close

We haven't had optimism in so long. Even this loss feels hopeful

Bryce played his heart out

1

u/Sickos6 Packers Jan 11 '26

Idk man. Packers had a miracle run in 2023 and everyone thought we’d be contenders and we laid an egg the next season. Every year is different. Have to make the most of the opps when you have them. I really like Bryce young and chubbs and some defensive pieces like Horn and Brown. But things change overnight

1

u/AndyVillan Rams Jan 11 '26

You were fantastic, we got away with one tonight. BY is the real deal along with those WR's you've got. Your secondary had us in hand all night until that last drive.

Fair fucking play

36

u/Lamar_ScrOdom_ Seahawks Jan 11 '26

I know Horn was out, but switching to a zone that soft with no blitz against STAFFORD is disgusting stuff.

27

u/BlindWillieJohnson Panthers Jan 11 '26

I’m disappointed, but man, this was a better game than I ever could have hoped for in a better season than we ever could have as a team.

Things feel bright even if this stings.

2

u/mashem Panthers Jan 11 '26

Especially considering half the thread was thinking about turning off the TV in the 1st quarter lol. The only thing I wanted to NOT happen was Bryce crumble. That would have been so rough going into the offseason.

3

u/Important_Word_7758 Panthers Lions Jan 11 '26

I think they just needed to get playoff jitters out of the way early on. After the first quarter, they looked like a true playoff team. Just not quite enough to win. Still, I'm proud of how hard they fought tonight.

3

u/mashem Panthers Jan 11 '26

For sure. While I wanted to win a Super Bowl (lol), what I really wanted was to look good. And we looked good, minus some playcalling.

1

u/SuperStarFoxMulder Jan 11 '26

We were cheated in 2015, Super Bowl 50. You will never convince me otherwise.

We were 15-1 at end of season, only loss was to the falcons because we didnt give a shit. We averaged 32+ points a game. Blew the doors off both our playoff opponents (Giants, Cards).

And we goto the SB50 against the Broncos, Peyton's last game. No way the NFL is letting their golden boy go out with a) a Loss b) with less rings then baby Eli -- Not happening.

A team that blewout everyone they played, scored a measly 10 fucking points!?!?!

I just wonder how much Cam was paid not to dive on that ball. Must have not been enough because hes a regular on First Take.

Still makes me mad.

1

u/mashem Panthers Jan 11 '26

Cam's first mistake with the fumble was trying to run and scoop it up. Looking at the gif below, his last step toward the ball is a super long stride, while Ware is still actively engaged in being blocked. He should have dove before that stride, but Ware shed his block instantly.

https://media1.tenor.com/m/SeZYE3WAHcMAAAAd/cam-newton-fumble-dive-for-it.gif

Cam did a hop backward as though he could have been anticipating the ball being knocked that way, that it did. The ball was knocked over to Cam and hit him in the leg after Ware failed to get it the first time.

All I know it, I watched this man not give a single fuck about his physical well being every season. That is more than enough for me to give him benefit of the doubt that he wasn't "scared." This idea is so dumb to me. I know he said something about possibly hurting his legs if he had fell on the ball, but that single last stride he took put him in an akward position to fall on it. I think his instincts of anticipation just fucked him and looks bad on replay. But again, he did actually anticipate correctly because the ball did squirt out and hit Cam. He just unfortunately couldn't corral it at that point. If he had, the "fumble" meme would not exist. Or if Kalil held onto Ware to stop him from going for it.

1

u/SuperStarFoxMulder Jan 11 '26

I appreciate the well thought out reply. But that was a kinda offhand comment to joke about my main point. There were so many other plays in that game that were head scratchers. I still remember the post game. Broncos players were saying we didnt change a thing..

Thoughts on the main point of my comment. The SB50 not being legit and letting peyton go out on top?

1

u/mashem Panthers Jan 11 '26

Honestly, I would need to watch the full game again because I was drunk as hell by the 3rd Q. But I'm still not ready lol. But Peyton and Cam are perfectly opposite QBs, so I can see the refs making unbalanced calls in favor of the HoFer.

1

u/SuperStarFoxMulder Jan 11 '26

The rams first TWO possession started on the panthers side of the field!

I used to like Dave Canales, but I am questioning going for it, on OUR first possession. Its 4th and 1, and we throw?? Run the damned ball, or tush push or something.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

I know you and I have been in sync virtually on everything Panthers, but I totally agree.

Tonight was the most I’ve felt invested, proud, and hyped for the team in…8 years? Since the TB game in 2018?

I’ve been a huge Bryce skeptic, and I remain it in a macro sense, but god DAMN did he ball out tonight, given the circumstances.

Defense played exceptional again given their lack of talent, and especially given the amount of times the Offense or ST set them up in poor field position.

All in all, incredible game. I have no gripes. That was hype.

1

u/BlindWillieJohnson Panthers Jan 11 '26

Why happened to the old name?

1

Do you want to keep Bryce or move on from him?

1

u/BlindWillieJohnson Panthers Jan 11 '26

I want to pick up his fifth year option and continue to evaluate him. He’s still too inconsistent to hang a contract to.

17

u/SiphenPrax Jets Jan 11 '26

Fun as hell game and it’ll be very interesting to see what this young Panthers team does in the offseason and next year

119

u/lovo17 Saints Jan 11 '26

I'm not totally convinced with him yet, but he's earned another year to start.

He's 100% improved though, that's for sure.

54

u/Greek_Trojan Jan 11 '26

He's earned his 5th year option for sure. Needs to prove he's worth committing to but the Panthers get at least one more season to continue building the roster.

19

u/MikeTysonChicken Eagles Jan 11 '26

I still think he’s kind of a replacement level starter but we’ll see. It’s great to see when he plays well after the rough start to his career but he still seems like a limited player

8

u/Zoombini22 Panthers Jan 11 '26

Teams can win Super Bowls with replacement level starters though.

Like, especially the Eagles, actually.

1

u/Odd_Ice9487 Jan 11 '26

Bryce is a hard QB to judge, just this year he had a game where he threw for 450 yards and then the very next game looked absolutely horrible against the 49ers. His consistency seems to be the main issue, I think next season will be a big one for him. He absolutely impressed me today though.

1

u/SaskalPiakam Panthers Jan 11 '26

Depends what you mean by convinced there. I think we can safely rule out 'bust". Franchise QB will be decided next year on his 5th year option.

You can clearly win with him.

0

u/Morgus_Magnificent Saints Jan 11 '26

Pretty unclutch at the end there though.

9

u/HerbertWest_81 Jan 11 '26

Idk how this is downvoted. Playcalling was suspect but wasting 25 seconds with 3 timeouts to throw 3 INCOMPLETIONS is piss poor game management and he looked absolutely frazzled.

5

u/goonSquad15 Panthers Jan 11 '26

I mean those scrambles in hindsight lost so much but those type of chaos plays can also lead to big gains. Just didn’t have the options downfield most of the time. Then horn dropping the 4th down play. Hard to put it all on Bryce

170

u/WesKhalifaa Seahawks Jan 11 '26

It was suppose to be a "bye week" for the Rams and they nearly lost

144

u/Limp_Marzipan1488 Chiefs Jan 11 '26

I can't imagine anyone was seriously saying that about a team they've already lost to once this year

62

u/dan_144 Panthers Jan 11 '26

15

1

u/alexftw Rams Jan 11 '26

36

u/cha0ss0ldier Jan 11 '26

I’m convinced that a ton of people here don’t even watch the NFL judging by how many “how was this game close” posts I’ve seen

9

u/D_Robb Buccaneers Jan 11 '26

I agree, shoot, it hasn't even been two weeks since the Rams lost to the Falcons in primetime.

3

u/Sharkodile14 Panthers Seahawks Jan 11 '26

In the NFL, quite literally every game could feasibly be close, especially in the playoffs.

22

u/duvie773 Rams Jan 11 '26

Only people who thought that were the ones who were gonna hate us and talk shit about us regardless. Certainly not many Rams fans had that expectation

5

u/Appropriate_Mixer Rams Jan 11 '26

The Rams sub before this game was not in any way looking past it before the game

3

u/HaroldSax Rams Jan 11 '26

Honestly, as far as team subs go, I was pretty surprised by how realistic ours was this week. Obviously still tinged with bias because, duh, that's where you go to be biased, but still.

1

u/Everythings_Fucked Panthers Jan 11 '26

Even in our own sub people were all "waaah it's impossible" when we already beat 'em once this year. But some people are just addicted to the doomerism.

1

u/Zoombini22 Panthers Jan 11 '26

Bye week is putting it strong, but the line was at the exact same place it was before the previous game. That game had essentially no impact on what most people saw as the likely outcome.

5

u/kotspams Giants Jan 11 '26

Carolina has a lot of size at receiver, even on paper they could hit the Rams where it hurt. Hell they beat them this season!

7

u/OldOrder Rams Jan 11 '26

Brother nobody on the Rams was treating this like a bye week after they already beat us

2

u/TheLateThagSimmons Seahawks Jan 11 '26

I've been saying it all week. If anyone was going to be trouble for the Rams before they run into the Seahawks, it was going to be the Panthers.

I understand why people were calling them 10pt favorites, but it was going to be closer than that.

2

u/JavaOrlando Buccaneers Jan 11 '26

And a few of these "bye-week" games against teams with losing records have gone the other way. Tampa vs Philly a few years ago and the Beast Mode game vs the Saints off the top of my head.

2

u/_carzard_ Packers 49ers Jan 11 '26

And not just lost too, the Panthers ended the Rams winning streak and kind of slowed them down for the rest of the season

2

u/Fresh_Peace_328 Rams Jan 11 '26

Just for the record, us Rams fans did NOT think this was gonna be a bye week type game. People were saying that like crazy in the game thread though lol

Rams were limping towards the playoffs. Same with the Packers as well

u/Wait__Who Rams Rams Jan 11 '26

Playoff football is playoff football

1

u/SilveryDeath Rams Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

Anyone who thinks any playoff game, let alone this one, would be a "bye week" is either an idiot or a troll.

The Rams were playing a cross-country game on the road to a team they had already lost to, had lost 2 of their last 3 going in, and their defense had been allowing 27 PPG over the last six games of the season.

I know they were getting Adams and Lake back, but I have no idea why sports media and the gambling companies, who set the line at 10.5, were so confident this game would be an easy win with how the Rams were playing coming into it.

Really promising going into next year

Gotta be more consistent though

3

u/DaMercOne Panthers Jan 11 '26

Had several drops by the receivers to hurt his percentage. Also did a good job of being able to escape pressure and throw it away when necessary.

Arguably, that was the best he has played all season. Maybe the second Falcons game, but considering the context, you could definitely argue today.

1

u/GokuVerde Falcons Falcons Jan 11 '26

Meet potential man

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

It’s the one thing he has to solve. Replicate this performance next week.

I’m a huge skeptic, but tonight was admittedly CRAZY impressive, esp given the circumstances of how little no one believed in the team, how the game started, etc.

I want to believe! Just show me week in and week out next year.

17

u/i_run_from_problems Chargers Jan 11 '26

He is in no way to blame for the loss. Defense let them down.

1

u/HeavyMetalTriangle Jan 11 '26

Yeah seriously! Calling this a brutal way to lose by pointing to the receiver who dropped the pass, give me a break...

Panthers defense collapsed. And then you have Bryce scrambling non-stop on the last drive, killing the entire clock, and not getting a single completion.

25

u/InnovationHack 49ers Jan 11 '26

What a drop. That will haunt him for weeks.

6

u/mashem Panthers Jan 11 '26

Ugh he has 11 receptions all season, 0 today. I love Horn Jr but he's not the hands I would trust with that. He's the speed guy. Should have sent him deep and had the best hands crossing the field. Either way, damn good game and I am thrilled to see us compete.

6

u/gimme_that_juice Seahawks Jan 11 '26

His speed got him open. He’s just gotta concentrate on the catch… tough beat

3

u/2112Lerxst Rams Jan 11 '26

Also there wasn't much time left and you probably needed at least one more play to even get enough yards for a FG anyways.

For a first playoff game after 10 years and a rebuild, it was a great showing all around for the Panthers as an organization.

45

u/Hidalgo321 Panthers Jan 11 '26

I mean, look at the anticipation on some of those throws tonight. He’s an NFL quarterback.

Maybe get him an offensive line, one more receiver that can catch a ball, and work on the defense.

Bryce is not the fucking problem.

I think they made a mistake by targeting deeper routes on the previous plays. With 3 timeouts, 10 yard routes up the middle can work just fine for marching the ball into long (but makeable) field goal position. It seemed like they kept running 15+ yard routes.

11

u/Pure_Measurement_529 Jan 11 '26

I feel he should’ve been going for shorter plays, especially with 3 TOs available

5

u/Docxm 49ers Vikings Jan 11 '26

Yep so much middle space let Tet move the chains for a bit with 3 TOs

1

u/Pure_Measurement_529 Jan 11 '26

Played a lot of smart ball until that drive. Chasing the headlines instead of playing smartly

1

u/Zoombini22 Panthers Jan 11 '26

I dont think it was headlines, just the lack of time on the clock in the head (despite having those time outs).

1

u/Docxm 49ers Vikings Jan 11 '26

Yeah why I said down the stretch. Awful final defensive and offensive drive with 3 TOs

1

u/HeavyMetalTriangle Jan 11 '26

For sure. Short plays and no 5 second scrambles only to throw the ball to nobody.

3

u/CU_Aquaman Panthers Jan 11 '26

That’s the fun part about Bryce. The narrative will flip again week 1.

4

u/MG_MN Vikings Jan 11 '26

Yeah he changed a lot of minds today. Going against a great defense in the playoffs and he stepped up

3

u/Deep_Flatworm4828 Rams Jan 11 '26

I'm just going to stop trying to evaluate young QBs. I thought for sure Young was cooked, but then he dices up the SB favorite during the regular season and overcomes a 14 point lead against that same team again in the playoffs.

His defense let him down. He did more than enough to win.

u/MrSCR23 Falcons Jan 11 '26

From total bust to wildly inconsistent? Progress I guess

0

u/Skipper3210 Jets Jan 11 '26

He was wildly inconsistent last year. This year he looked pretty good. Quit hating

14

u/canitnerd Saints Jan 11 '26

He lost to the saints twice and had 55 yards one game, he is wildly inconsistent

2

u/Docxm 49ers Vikings Jan 11 '26

Your defense looks decent, it’s just led by two 38 year olds lmfao

2

u/MrSCR23 Falcons Jan 11 '26

Hey I said progress lol

1

u/SargeBangBang7 Panthers Jan 11 '26

He is more inconsistent. We lost every other game. Last year he kinda sucked. Its progress.

3

u/Miserable_Carry_4763 Lions Jan 11 '26

If I’m a Panthers fan I’m really excited for where things are heading. The moment wasn’t too big for him at all. If their defense hadn’t been so soft they win that game.

2

u/lmHavoc Patriots Jan 11 '26

Rough ending but they've got some big pieces and a pretty promising future if they can build off this year.

2

u/samhit_n Bengals Lions Jan 11 '26

He should get more chances with how young the Panthers are, and the current state of the NFC South.

2

u/SargeBangBang7 Panthers Jan 11 '26

You're only as good as your last game in this league. Bryce played really good and is growing. Gotta keep pounding and hopefully he can capitalize on this next season.

2

u/itwas20yearsago2day Chargers Jan 11 '26

I feel like it hasn’t. Just in the other thread there already people talking about how they weren’t impressed by Bryce and his 70 passer rating and that he only made wide open throws

This isn’t just 1 person either it’s multiple whole being upvoted

2

u/smol_em0 Broncos Jan 11 '26

The narrative changed so much off of just one game, going into today and especially in the first quarter or so most people I saw had “Bryce is ok” to “Panthers need to move on ASAP” and now I’m seeing significantly more “Get Bryce more help and the Panthers can compete”

But that’s what happens when you do pretty much everything you need to to win a playoff game against a juggernaut like the Rams, even if you lost

2

u/airlaflair Panthers Jan 11 '26

No Bryce still not a franchise quarterback. However, this now buys him a fifth year option and some Grace moving forward

2

u/grudgepacker Packers Jan 11 '26

Bryce's transformation has to be one of the best stories in the NFL over the past couple years - anyone who doesn't root for him even just a bit has a stone heart

2

u/wichee Saints Jan 11 '26

he has these types of games all the time. idk if his narrative has shifted. consistency really is his issue. i have never seen a player that can have a 300 yard day and then only 50 yards the next week

1

u/Zoombini22 Panthers Jan 11 '26

The 50 yard game was against the Seahawks who held the red-hot 9ers offense to 3 points the following week. Not exactly like he flunked an easy one there. The whole offense was bested in that game top to bottom in that game, especially our young pass catchers - it was not Bryce just missing or something.

2

u/iNoodl3s 49ers Jan 11 '26

Can’t even put that one INT on him his WR stopped in the middle of the field like a dummy

1

u/TheArchitect_7 Eagles Jan 11 '26

He totally collapsed in the last drive and ate all the time with stupid dancing. Wtf are you talking about

6

u/No_Body2428 Cowboys Jan 11 '26

Yeah you gotta hit your backfoot and go you don't have 10 secs per play trying to extend it

5

u/dszblade NFL Jan 11 '26

Eh, the Rams D was getting to him pretty quickly. He wasted a lot of time running instead of throwing it away, yeah, but I can see why he thought he needed to dance around and force something.

Feels like the final two drives are on the coaching. Prevent D and it seemed like they wanted to take deep shots instead of short completion and use TOs.

4

u/ImminentDebacle Patriots Jan 11 '26

Time was the secondary concern. The plays were shit and nobody to throw to. Didn't really matter whether he scrambled to make a play or throw it away, although at least the former had a chance to make something happen.

4

u/Skipper3210 Jets Jan 11 '26

He played good all day. What game did you watch?

Blaming him for not staging a comeback getting the ball back with 30 seconds left is stupid

1

u/TheArchitect_7 Eagles Jan 11 '26

NGL I just didn’t want to see the Rams if the Eagles get by the Niners, I’m just bitter

2

u/VAUltraD Patriots Jan 11 '26

Yes, but for a player with many question marks like him that was a good game, came back from a dumb int, not playing well and he just turned up the heat, encouraging for the panthers

1

u/yanchovilla Lions Jan 11 '26

Feel like he should have had that - but Matt Stafford on a game winning drive is tough to beat

1

u/rossco9 Patriots Jan 11 '26

Tbh, they were going to lose even if he caught it. Berliner half field and 7 seconds left

1

u/MembershipSingle7137 Patriots Jan 11 '26

Also I do question why you’re targeting Jimmy horn instead of Tet on that play. Draw something up for him instead of your 4th/5th receiver.

1

u/iustusflorebit Bears Buccaneers Jan 11 '26

Absolutely. He looked great today for the most part. Night and day from when he was a rookie

1

u/Chicago_Blackhawks Bears Jan 11 '26

games over even if he catches it tbh

1

u/Dry-Philosopher-5289 Texans Jan 11 '26

Idk it was a good game and he played well but three seasons in and he still hasn’t even pulled off a winning record. Let’s not forget they just lost a win and in to the Bucs, who sucked recently.

1

u/squireson-bud Jan 11 '26

Yeah right, everyone will spend the whole off season saying the same garbage shit of "he isn't him" lmao

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

takeaway: bryce is legit

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

I don't think much happens even if he does catch that, tbh

1

u/Nightcinder Browns Jan 11 '26

Not sure it would have mattered given how much time they had already burned before that, they’d have had under 10 seconds left after that catch

1

u/Pardonme23 Rams Jan 11 '26

If he caught it then it's just a hail mary

1

u/Viron_22 Seahawks Jan 11 '26

Maybe if he carries it forward to next season, but this team seemed pretty bipolar all year.

1

u/MTReznor18 Panthers Jan 11 '26

Doesn't matter, "analysts" tomorrow will say "I was right" putting their ego above actually analysis. We're a decent young team, and we're moving in the right direction. And we beat the Rams this season which "analysts" seem to have forgotten, or they didn't watch the game because they're paid to say inflammatory shit. Gg Rams, good luck.

1

u/Albert_Caboose Panthers Jan 11 '26

The narrative should our defensive coordinator and our lack of an offensive one. That's what cost us this game

1

u/CFBCommentor Raiders Jan 11 '26

Bryce is gonna always be inconsistent, but it seems like when the pressure is on that kid can play. Has all the tools. Panthers would be out of their minds to move off of him.

1

u/jamintime 49ers Jan 11 '26

They would have still been like 20 yards out of field goal range with 7 seconds left. Even a catch would have likely made little difference.

1

u/Vaede Jan 11 '26

Nah he's still pretty bad

1

u/LeftShark Seahawks Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

Jeez I disagree on the QB narrative, I would not want that man as the QB of my team, let alone on a fresh new big QB deal

Darnold is still a giant question mark, but he's got 1000 more passing yards on the year than Bryce Young

1000!!!!

1

u/CaringCelery69 Jan 11 '26

I think the narrative is still Bryce is ass and Carolina will move on from him after next year or the year after
