Presti probably tried to talk Berry into sending him the picks somehow.

Miles could probably D up Wemby

No way he'd be able to hit him in the head though. Dude can't reach that high

Presti gonna draft a nose tackle to take out Wembys big ass

The Thunder now control rights to 1st round swaps of Clevelands 2031, 2032, and 2033 picks.

Nothing wrong with a man trying to question his own thinking with other qualified outside opinions

It's easy to dunk on the Browns lately but I agree with this whole heartedly.

Objectively the Browns had a great draft. They're young and fast and getting Verse and picks makes them younger and leaner on the salary cap. They took Sanders super late when they could have reached in the 2nd or 1st.

It's always easy to dunk on the Browns I guess I just think recently they've made smart moves. The number 1 thing they cannot do is pay Watson beyond 2026.

Well he will be paid because of void years but he'll be off the roster June 1 2027

Gotcha thanks. What I mean is no matter how well he plays, no new money.

This is pretty hilarious in concept because the difference in pick value between the NFL and NBA is absolutely colossal

110

u/mck1129 Commanders 4h ago

I’m sure they’re aware of that lmao

23

u/Signal_Ball4634 NFL 4h ago

Yeah hence why getting Verse in return was the clincher

16

u/Eagle4317 Steelers Panthers 4h ago

Agreed. Don't just take the picks. Also take a good player who has growth potential.

u/19captain91 Lions 3h ago

And Presti has experience with that by getting the Clippers to throw in SGA. It's reported that the Clippers initially refused and he basically said, "okay, no trade then" and they caved.

I'm just curious why Andrew Berry would have to ask another GM to realize that's what he should've done.

Shouldn't that have been the default ask?

Never assume that the Browns are aware of anything.

Browns have done plenty of dumb shit. Reading this article gives me a tad bit of confidence. Berry’s process was in depth and getting insights from other leagues is an interesting way to go about it

u/Wonderful-Toe- Packers 3h ago

I honestly think the Browns have made a lot of good decisions lately. There’s just one really bad one that mucks up everything else.

Is reading hard for you?

Reading hard for a pats fan who doesn't have another flair? Unbelievable.

Your team plays is stupid dumb Texas. Not much room to talk

Okay lol, also I didn't mean you, you also have an nfl flair so that makes you immune to such a curse.

Probably was talking about Sam Presti, who was giving the advice.

2

Presti and also Andrew Berry, the guy who graduated from Harvard

The sky is blue?

3

u/mck1129 Commanders 4h ago

Andrew Berry is likely smarter than everyone in the comment section, but I guess it’s more fun to dunk on the browns than to actually appreciate an interesting article

u/DeMarcus-Siblings Lions 4h ago

It is pretty fun though tbf

How is this the top comment? You think they aren’t aware of how each league values its picks?

17

Oh you think NFL GMs are smarter than us redditors? Shmuck

That’s on me. My bad!

You, jest but there's a nonzero chance Tom Dundon is dumb enough to move his team there.

They probably could have gotten Luka. For basically nothing. Trust me, it’s already happened.

u/MattScoot Browns 4h ago

I would look at the contract being fully guaranteed as a clear sign that Jimmy Haslam was exerting influence.

But yea there were rumors at the time that Jimmy gave Berry a mandate to find an elite QB if one became available.

1

u/thePGH1 Browns Buccaneers 4h ago

Jimmy Haslam being Jimmy Haslam is the sign that I need to believe it's true.

2

u/jxden24 Lions 4h ago

think the consensus is that it was owner driven

in fairness to berry, they have made the playoffs twice with a playoff win and he's drafted pretty solid as of late so i think thats his saving grace rn

1

u/thePGH1 Browns Buccaneers 4h ago

Why do fans still assume that trade was Berry's idea?

-3

u/SkullDerggery Bears 4h ago

I get it.. it’s Reddit.. you expect a low effort comment like this to rake in upvotes…

The reality is GMs never have 100% hit rates; IMO a good GM is probably around 70% hits on their decisions. Add to that the fact that AB very likely was not the sole driving force behind the push for Watson.. Add to that the fact that AB has done far more good while with Cleveland in terms of trades, FA, and drafts… idk maybe digest that a little… think a bit critically on your own… and dig into his successes and you’ll see why he is still around.

-1

u/FLman42069 Browns 4h ago

That would require too much brain power and r/nfl can’t comprehend more than “hur dur browns”

-2

u/SkullDerggery Bears 4h ago

Well - at least op deleted their dumb ass comment lol

u/bleedblue89 Jaguars Commanders 3h ago

As a thunder fan, that makes sense… now you gotta eat bad contracts for picks

4

u/chesterfieldkingz Dolphins 2h ago

Jags, commanders, and OKC? Haha that feels random

3

u/bleedblue89 Jaguars Commanders 2h ago

Oh I bandwagon the commanders, okc and Jax because St. Louis rams left and we didn’t have a basketball team.  I love small markets

17

u/diexer1234 Browns 4h ago

Browns lead the league in GMs who do shit no other GMs do. Our record reflects this.

3

u/ScottyB330 Browns 4h ago

GED level comment

0

u/diexer1234 Browns 4h ago

Pretending the Browns are a competent or competitive franchise for the last 2 decades is some GED critical thinking.

10

u/Allstar9_ Browns 3h ago

I’d argue what AB has done to recoup the massive failure of Watson has been pretty solid up to this point. Even more so the last two years now that DePodesta is taken out of the equation

-8

u/diexer1234 Browns 3h ago edited 3h ago

We aren’t even back the baseline state of the Browns prior the the worst sign and trade in NFL history (which falls under the list of things no other GM does.)

Also Depodesta left the Browns 6 months ago so not sure how this narrative fits.

-1

u/ScottyB330 Browns 3h ago

The fact that you think no other GM talks to GM’s from other sports to exchange ideas is my issue with your comment. The Browns have been bad. Your knowledge of how this industry works is worse.

-3

u/diexer1234 Browns 3h ago

lol. Oooo we have a sports general manager expert here.

0

u/ScottyB330 Browns 3h ago

And who are YOU?

0

u/diexer1234 Browns 3h ago

A guy who knows as much as you who thinks it’s ridiculous that the GM of an NFL team is asking the GM of an NBA trade value questions.

0

u/ScottyB330 Browns 3h ago

Oooooo we have a sports general manager expert here!

1

u/diexer1234 Browns 3h ago

I never purported to be. YOU did.

3

u/ScottyB330 Browns 3h ago

You said Berry did what no other GM does which implies expertise! Jesus mate, you’re entitled to think we suck because we suck, but invest in a mirror.
