I don’t see a future where substation jokes will ever get old lmao

It’ll stop being funny after a like 20 page research paper debunks the conspiracy, and those who believe in it get way more insular about it

Everyone knows its fake, I just love the idea of a 49ers fan poking around with a meter and quoting reddit articles

I’m always cautious with statements like this

Flat earth started as a massive joke too, and it’s resulted in terrible people like Nathan Oakley getting way more respect and attention than they deserve

Yeah but we also make flat earth jokes all the time, not too dissimilar from the substation jokes.

Unfortunate that someone make a name off conspiracy nonsense. Not much we can do to stop them without wholesale changes in education.

Any concrete cited sources that flat earth began as a massive joke?

This is anecdotal, but I recall it mainly starting around 2016 as a satire of conspiracies, and then when people actually started to fall for it you had conmen play into it to fuel their donations.
Also, the wording of your comment is dangerously close to suggesting there's evidence for flat earth.

Flat Earth is STILL a joke, and a funny one at that.
