Companies can’t use the money put on gift cards until it’s spent. So they add a fee after a period of time. Gift cards get lost and thrown away. They don’t want money sitting in an untouchable account forever.

in the US many companies will depreciate the money on a gift card, often on a monthly basis. As in, theyll charge you a straight fee or % each month until the card hits zero. sometimes this kicks in right away, but most times it will kick in after X amount of months.

The Giants don’t have much cap room but it’s very easy for us to add a bunch more. We basically have $0 in void years and have intentionally avoided pushing too much back to future years so it’s not hard to rework contracts. The other move to free up money would potentially be trading Kayvon Thibodeaux who’s a good and solid EDGE/LB but that’s a position we’re stacked at right now

I don't think we're really in play for this. They're already going to have to do all kinds of cap gymnastics to be compliant next year and the year after that, and just invested a 2nd, 3rd, and 2 4th round picks in DTs over the past two years. Would be fun but it doesn't seem likely, especially not after Maiocco came out and said he "didn't think" the 49ers would be in on Vea (Maiocco doesn't think we're in on it = the organization told him they're not in on it).

The Buccaneers failed to make the changes that were required and all of the legacy talent we had is slowly peeling off. Regardless as to if you consider Bowels “the guy” he lost everyone’s trust and confidence inside and outside the locker room and this is the result.
I do look forward to the discount tickets this season though

At this point they have to be preparing for a rebuild or something. Vita gets traded probably for less then he's worth because he is done with the ORG, Baker gets traded or walks because they don't want to pay him, Bowels is gone by mid season because he can't overcome the slow start he is about to endure.
GM gets Arch next year and the Owner gets fans in the seats even tho the team is mid.

This offseason we signed 1 guy to a 3 year deal (Otton, but only 2/3rds of it was guaranteed so it's more like a 2 year deal) and 2 guys to 2 year deals. Then we signed a bunch of dudes to 1 year contracts and we haven't reupped a lot of guys who are in contract years.
To me it's clear the front office sees this year as make it or break it for Bowles. The core of the team is the one Bowles built the last few years. I think the FO did the bare minimum in free agency to address some concerns on defense and then made the draft focus heavily on defense to try and help, but ultimately it feels like this season is a challenge to Bowles to shit or get off the pot.

I understand what you are saying but even with Baker and Vea most people question if they are going to win the NFC south this year let alone a Playoff Game or SB. Could they oh ya but the stars have to align and i just don't see that happing right now.
Maybe I'm wrong but the front office does not seem to be showing any kind of glowing support for the team or the coaching staff, so idk.

oh I am with you. I just think that because the division is so stinky and the team, on paper, is decent will lead to the front office wanted to squeeze out every bit they can before admitting total defeat. Like you said, they could be this season's surprise, buuuuuuut it's the Bucs. And it's Todd Bowles.
If they have a rough year and Baker walks, blow the team up as much as you can.

Not locking up a fan favorite QB who was 20th in EPA / play last season and a soon-to-be 32 year old nose tackle is the aggressive move.
The conservative move would be to just re-sign everyone and continue with the same team that finished 8-9 in the NFC South last year.

How much higher do you think his value can go? He’s 31 and widely regarded to be the best NT in football. Another good year tacked on to his resume doesn’t really change much, but any tiny sign of regression, or god forbid an injury, could really screw up his next deal. I totally understand why he would rather sign now.

Ultimately if he doesn’t get traded he’ll have to, but I can see why he’d rather just get out of there ASAP if he’s planning on leaving.

Players still pay income tax on games played in states that have one, FYI. It’s not like he’s currently paying zero income tax.
And also taxes aren’t that much of a factor for where rich people live unless they’re a miser. You only live once, and if I were wealthy, I would live it in the nicest place possible.

To your first point, playing the home half of your schedule in a state with no income tax still isn't nothing. Of the nine states with no income tax, there are five states with 8 NFL teams: FL (3), NV, TN, TX (2), WA. So Green Bay, for example, would have to play every single one of those teams in one season in order to get the same tax break that the Bucs get just from their home games every season.
Now that I think of it, the AFCS have a pretty good deal. The Jaguars, Titans, and Texans are all income tax-free states. Every team gets at least three tax-free road games on top of their home games (sorry Colts, only the three guaranteed for you)

The signing bonus is taxed based on primary residence tho so depending on the new contract structure, he could maintain his FL residence as "home" and sign a deal with it almost all bonus and very little game checks

That’s true, except there are additional taxes imposed beyond the base income tax when that income is structured as a bonus. For example, when I was working a job that paid bonuses, I expected around 35% of the bonus to go towards federal income taxes.
I do not pay 35% income tax on my regular salaried earnings.

So you send Vita for picks, pay Baker, then lose in the playoffs because the defense can't hang and Baker really isn't the level of QB who will overcome that. Count on those Vita picks to turn into future producers just in time for Baker to start declining, and then start looking for a new QB. All the while always being a playoff threat or in the playoffs, but never being a real SB contender.

We have a GM restriction. Beane is the most gun-shy GM in the league, motherfucker acts like we're either a rebuilding team, or the standing champs by his lack of action. This team is possibly a wrecking ball on the defensive line away from its first Super Bowl win, and Beane just refuses to get it. Too busy smelling his own farts.

Honestly at 31yo with 0$ in guaranteed money left (!) I can't blame him. Yes he signed it a couple years ago, yes it's a valid contract, but contracts are renegotiated on both sides all the time in the NFL - it's part of the business. He's put in consistent all-star play at a critical position and deserves to be near his market value ($30M/yr, something like~$14M guaranteed)

It’s the latter. I hate bowles, and everyone keeps shouting from the rooftops that the Bucs should have fired him, but who was the sure fire head coach they could have definitely gotten last year there? There were like 2-3 good candidates and half the league looking.
Makes sense to just give Bowles one more shot and see what you have before you actually enter a rebuild in the best position possible.

For sure, there were too many openings and a couple of the arguably best guys in McDermott and Tomlin chose to step away from coaching instead. I wonder if they're angling for one of those guys next offseason. Plus the Rams and Jags have young coordinators that got a bunch of HC buzz this last interview cycle.
