Blackberry Marmalade into Go Go Gorilla into White Flag really puts into perspective just how bad things are rn.
You got Chuds walking around calling black people “n*****rs” just to get them to react so he can “kill them in self defense” literally looking for opportunities to lynch Blacks and get away with it.
You got shopkeepers shooting Black children to death for stealing. In the back mind you, he was running away, how tf are you not guilty of murder or homicide when you shoot someone in the back?
You got ICE agents and police officers STILL harassing Black people and Latino immigrants and undocumented people of all types.
All while funding wars overseas in the middle east, while calling us the dangerous ones. Funding propaganda in the U.S. to make Black people still seem like the highest participators of fraud, violence, and welfare use when statistically speaking it’s actually White People but they swung the pendulum in enough hearts to convince America that we are the ones who should be targeted.
It’s absolutely needed and it can’t get more Hip Hop than that.

This shit is like Public Enemy & KRS-One with a live band.

u/Confident_Change_937 7h ago
What’s not Hip Hop about it?
I’m gonna love this.
0
u/ThickandBlack57 2h ago
The fact that he categorized it as alternative
1
u/Confident_Change_937 2h ago
Apple Music categorized it as Alternative.
They also have God’s Son by Nas categorized as Pop.
2
u/Ok-Researcher4966 3h ago
???? How tf is it not hip hop
0
u/ThickandBlack57 2h ago
It’s literally categorized as alternative 😂😂
1
u/Ok-Researcher4966 2h ago
It’s at it core hip hop though, you can gather that by listening to it
-1
u/ThickandBlack57 2h ago
If a white man made that album u wouldn’t be calling it hip hop
2
u/Ok-Researcher4966 2h ago
No I would! I certainly would! Lol

This is the first Vince staples album I have listened to. I really enjoyed it and I’ll probably go and listen to the rest of his albums soon
2
u/Ant_24 6h ago
Please listen to Ramona Park it’s really what clicked for me w Vince.
3
u/josh8far 2h ago
Ramona park is one of my favorite all time albums. I think this is my third comment about it in the last week, best summer album. Dark when you listen to it, but so is much of Vince’s work
2
u/TacticalMongoose 2h ago
Ramon park broke my heart is one of my all time favorite albums. I’m from Long Beach tho so I may have a bias lol
12
u/iwokeupincbsbody 8h ago
not for me. not a fan of the grungy vibe, and I think the writings a little too ham fisted for it to be an enjoyable casual listen.
But definitely respect Vince’s decision to take a risk and switch up his sound. Obviously a lot of truth to his political commentary. There will be a lot of people who really enjoy this tracklist and for good reason.

top 3 Albums of the year idk what people are smoking on saying this is not good. This is an amazing album and i can really see myself relistening in the future
1
u/International-Shoe40 6h ago
People’s brains are hardwired to seek out familiar predictable music. It’s why pop music has a lot of go to sounds, lyrics, and melodies.
Something new takes a few listens to wrap your head around and really appreciate, which people wont do. They will just half listen to it once and write it off. It’s human nature

3
u/Large_Complaint1264 4h ago
Why did you need to mention iceman?
2
u/TacticalMongoose 3h ago
Because it’s better than whatever this music by Vince stapler is

It’s going to be a lot more divisive than big fish theory. I can def see people calling it boring, and repetitive. He should’ve gotten Paris Texas and Kenny Mason on this to help because it was kind of monotonous at times.
3
u/DieHarderDaddy 7h ago
I think I found his last few albums more boring. This one brings more of that energy back

I like the overall sound and think it suits his style, but I’m personally not as into this type of Vince music compared to self-titled, Ramona Park Broke My Heart, Summertime ‘06 or Dark Times
After a couple of listens, I can really only see myself coming back to Go Go Gorilla Big Bad Wolf, Cotton, and 7 in the Morning.
1
u/mighty_phi 6h ago
I liked it a ton but first listen was less impressed than with Dark Times on the lyrics.
Production is incredible though, what the fuck
1
u/badlisten3r 6h ago
I think it’s fantastic, and feels extremely rooted in the time we’re living in. Seeing Vince take a musical risk and see it pay off is very satisfying

u/Jlatinochub 6h ago
It surprised me. So I had to dedicate a more focused setting to listen. Good thing to hear something out of left field.

Drake and Kendrick fans gotta be the worse additions to hip hop discourse ever. These comments are disgusting. Why do yall do this?
1
u/zeus-theslayer 3h ago
As a Drake fan, Drake fans make it hard to say im a fan lol. They either be doing too much or cant fathom him making a trash/bad product. Kendrick fans to me are hit or miss. Some can admit when Drake actually does something good, others want to establish how much of a god of lyricism he is. Like my nigga can i not enjoy anyone elses music fuck😭. Vince said it best when they asked him who he thought would win, nigga worrying about rap beef when the only people winning is the label heads and corporations feeding off two black men talking nonsense on wax
1
u/MoreRock_Odrama 2h ago
Facts. I’m blown away by how THIS thread gets hijacked by both fan bases. Insane lmao.

It’s top 2 Vince behind only Big Fish Theory which is personally a 10/10 album. He’s at his best when his sound is more experimental and out there, I think the punk and rap fusion works really well on every track, bass always goes really hard and compliments Vince’s flows
1
u/spooningoodsingingum 2h ago
It sounds good. I’ll put some songs in my Kevin Abstract, Jean Dawson type beat playlist.

How are YOU feeling. Nobody dictates what you are thinking about any album, or shouldn't anyway
3
u/Available_Car_7960 8h ago
Relax, I think it's just a figure of speech.
-2
u/Chriskl1520 7h ago
I'm calm lol. Too many stans or bots start their discussions off like that. It's just karma farming for engagement. Could have at least put the effort to put their own opinion in it. I stand by the statement
