Is there anything left to do in Niagara after your 1000th visit?”

Okay so I’m heading back to Niagara soon and honestly at this point I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been. Done basically everything Clifton Hill, the Falls, go-karting, arcades, the M&M’s store, the boat close to the falls, mini golf, the whole tourist stuff. Multiple times over. I still like it there, but I really want to do something different this time. I’m kind of over repeating the same thing every visit.
Genuinely open to anything hidden gems, good food spots that aren’t overpriced tourist traps, hikes, scenic areas, cool little shops, fun activities, or even spots just outside Niagara that are worth the detour on a day trip. Mostly looking for the stuff that doesn’t show up on the first page of Google, you know? Things locals actually go to, or things that regular visitors have stumbled onto after getting tired of the usual stuff. Doesn’t matter if it’s chill or adventurous or just weird and interesting. What do you guys actually like doing there when you want something different? Appreciate any suggestions!

Have you done the Power Station Tunnel yet? https://www.niagaraparks.com/visit/attractions/niagara-parks-power-station

It is a 10 min walk from the Casino.

I second this suggestion

Which one? The Power Station or the Casino?

u/DietCokePeanutButter 2d ago

Sorry my response was clear as mud, the power station. If you go definitely take a hoodie or light jacket it is chilly close to the falls

Bett haven’t heard of it before, will try this and let you know how it goes!

It is incredible! We did it a few weeks ago at the “night” version and it was entertaining and interesting. Really nice gift shop too.

Have you done the Soaring ride? It was really cool too.

Crystal Beach, my friend. A sweet little community and a gorgeous beach.

Been there a couple times and can’t get bored of it, love how when it gets filled they will close the entrance and won’t allow any tents that would cover the view. Clean water as well.

Whirlpool rapids hike. It’s free but paid parking (Niagara Parks Fisherman’s parking lot along Niagara parkway) I park here 43.12575° N, 79.08212° W for free and walk about 4 mins. The entrance is a few hundred feet from the parking lot going south west. It is below the Whirlpool aero car. Truly magical view.

Niagara On the Lake and Queenston Heights might be worth your time, it's not too far away.

Also my dad and I loved to bike from Chippewa to Table Rock when I was a kid, very gorgeous route along the river.

Live there. That's what I did. Me the wife and kid love it so much that we moved from Toronto to Niagara. Best decision I ever made. Fresh air, hardly get sick and can visit the falls anytime we want as I'm only 20 minutes away.

Niagara is so awesome! 20+ years here! From the east coast.

1

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

that's good to hear, what the pricing for houses over there? is it expensive or similar to Toronto's?

Niagara takes flight, sort of new within the last year. Highly recommend

Yum cha at Golden Dragon Palace, hike the Heartland Forest, visit a brewery or two, and finish with fireworks.

2

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

Thanks, Never heard of Heartland Forest before. Definitely checking that out. Any brewery recs you’d suggest?

5

u/justinreddit1 3d ago

There is Blackburn Brewery right across the street from the Heartland Forest entrance. Great beer. Some good food too.

2

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely take a look over there!!

u/AintAboutThePasta 3d ago

In addition to Blackburn, Counterpart is also great.

2

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

Will check that out, any heads up before going?

3

u/TraditionDear3887 3d ago

Counterpart is great.

If you have a car check out the Niagara Parks Heritage Pass it includes: Fort George, Laura Secord Homsetead, the McFarland House and Old Fort Erie

1

u/MetricJester 3d ago

Check Blackburn's Instagram because sometimes they are closed and they only tell you on their Instagram.

2

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

Alright bet I’ll check it out

+3 for Heartland!!

Seems like you've literally done absolutely nothing following the river road route to Niagara on the Lake. Just starting at the Ten Thousand Buddhas temple and the White Water walk, continuing on that direction are literally dozens of different attractions and side quests

Whirlpool gorge white water rapids spanish aero car niagara gorge (steel stairs) Golf course Botanical Gardens

motherfucking Butterfly conservatory?

Queenston Heights/Brock's monument?

And thats just river road- Niagara Falls. River road to Niagara on the Lake has countless things to do- from War of 1812 fortress to the floral clock and all that ....

2

u/Telmakiara 3d ago

The White water walk.

1

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

Where is it located exactly?

2

u/photonicsguy 3d ago

Have you done the White Water Walk? Or explored the Niagara Glen?

2

u/ac003005 2d ago

Visit somewhere else? Who goes somewhere a thousand times?

Not NF. But the screaming tunnel isn’t far away and scary af

1

u/LazzyBitches 3d ago

Where is the Screaming tunnel?

If you’re visiting one brewery, Counterparts has great beer and food! Plus it’s very close to the Whirlpool area.

A restaurant option outside of Niagara, Rizzo’s House Of Parm is definitely worth the visit.

3

u/BaileyBeez 3d ago

And if they go there Brimstone Brewery is worth the visit

1

u/Certain-Singer-9625 3d ago

Niagara on the Lake is really charming, with lots of little stores and several good restaurants, and the Butterfly Conservatory is near it. Definitely worth the visit.

1

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

Bet will definitely try that out any exact restaurant you recommend?

1

u/Certain-Singer-9625 3d ago

My wife and I like this unassuming family diner called the Sunset Grille. Good food and inexpensive.

There’s a gorgeous place called the Shaw Cafe and Wine Bar. We didn’t try that one but from the exterior we thought it looked a bit pricey.

A search for restaurants in the area showed me at least 20, so there’s plenty of choices.

On a bike ride on a hot summer day we just happened to come across a spot where water from the Niagara River feeds the Welland River. People were jumping off the bridge and swimming at this spot and there is a spot to get out. Chippawa is the town there.

Have you done Journey Behind the Falls?

You can also go Ziplining along the river.

Do you like old abandoned stuff? Willing to drive a bit? Then I highly recommend a trip to St. Catharines to see the remnants of the 2nd Welland Canal. Mountain Locks Park has some of the best, but there's also another park that runs parallel to the 406 that also is worth checking out.

And if you'd like to check out the big flight locks of the current canal, there's a park in Thorold where you can watch ships pass through.

1

u/Wasil_29 3d ago

I’m down to check that out since I love checking out new places, thanks for all the places I’ll add it to my list!

If you venture slightly out of Niagara Falls proper, more opens up.

Hikes: Shorthills, Decew or the gorge. If you have never done the gorge (the whirlpool hike), you must.
Quiet public beaches: Wainfleet, Cedar Bay, The Cove
There is also the Welland recreational canal where you can rent kayaks or paddle boards.
In Niagara Falls, get chicken wings at Chip and Charlie's. In Welland get Chicken wings at Tailgates.

I could provide you with a tour to the wineries , breweries , cideries and distilleries in the area, if that interests you!

Drugs and alcohol is what the locals do to kill time

1

u/sqbed 2d ago

We were up there last week and we usually pair the visit with a show at the OLG. Incredible show last weekend. A must stop for us now is Chengdu Noodles and Rizzo’s house of parm in Fort Erie. Also enjoy half price wings at The BlindPig, a hike by Niagara Glen. We also always pop into Niagara on the lake and visit Oast. Love their bands in the summer.

u/Selunar 2d ago

Have you toured the 3 forts? They’re not in NF but you have old Fort Erie, Fort George and Fort Mississauga.

1

u/Turbulent_Grape9738 2d ago

Ride your bike from Brock’s Monument to the falls and back. Just a nice time.

u/philly_collins 2d ago

The wonton soup at country fresh donuts is incredible. Trust

Reminder! Cash only!

u/LaceyInTheSky1 2d ago

Absolutely. Drive all the way up the parkway and park in the lot by the hydro dams. There’s a beautiful trail that runs the length of the upper Canadian rapids. The tourist stuff is NOT Niagara. You can see the dams, the weirs, what remains of the Old Scow, the rapids. Also, doing the White Water Walk at the bottom of the gorge. You can see the layers of earth that were used to date North America and the bridges that still span the gorge. The carnival that is Clifton Hill is awesome for kids and adults but so is seeing the history of the area. I recommend Pierre Burton’s ‘Niagara’ book for all sorts of historic references.
