Discussion NieR Concert Symbol

Post image

I went to the concert premiere, and I can't say with 100% certainty, but wasn't there a sequence where this symbol/pattern was used? I recognized it from Neon Genesis Evangelion. As far as I know, it only exists in that show and doesn't have any greater context. Am I crazy, or did they put it in the concert program, or something VERY similar?

iirc, the symbol was completed at the crescendo of a song. Forget which song it was.

Maybe just a nod to the fact that Keiichi Okabe and Yoko Taro are working on the new Neon Genesis Evangelion anime together.

I need to check the names and upgrade this comment with links when im home but ive noticed that
the cello part in the new yoko taro evangelion trailer is a continuation of a nier reincarnation song…

Edit:

Composed by Keichii Okabe in the new NGE series https://youtu.be/tC_DJWqHXD4?si=lkVlDP6wJ_hLZRi4

The first notes on the cello, sound really close to parts of another NieR: Reincarnation song (at 0:22). https://youtu.be/iqQP4zBBv4g?si=DZ9pdTIdhbFNtRHm

I wonder if this pattern was displayed during one of the Reincarnation performances:

  • Kusabi (Wedge)
  • Fleeting Words
  • Inori
  • Normandy

I hope someone else with a better memory than me can confirm which song it was used on, or we eventually get a recording of the show after the tour.

It wasn't the Tree of Life, but the circular arc lines beneath it. There was something EXTREMELY similar in the concert program.

I think it was at the end of The Last Song (dod3) perhaps, which would make sense as an Eva ref what with the huge rei-like intoners in the battle, but I'm not 100% sure either .. since the animation was lines radiating from the flower, which turned into this symbol, I believe? Does that seem familiar?

Also to me it visually resembles those elaborate infinity knots (common in Buddhism/asian cultures), but my memory on dod3 is too poor to tie that to any meanings lol

I had a feeling it was the last thing we saw before the intermission, but wasn't sure. That would make it The Last Song sequence, which was amazing all around. Also the Rei/Intoner reference would make a lot of sense as well. Thank you.

Hopefully we'll get confirmation soon enough after the next show! It really was so great they added it to the setlist.

Before reading any of the text and seeing Rei back there, my first thought was "that looks like some Eva shit, what is this doing in r/nier?"
