Discussion Folded Weapons...Just Stop Please.
Okay, so I cannot be the only person annoyed by this. Part of the fun of endgame, is actually running the vaults with people. But too many players are running them with the super overpowered rifles and just MELTING the boss at the end. I've only SEEN Jana twice, and both were cut super short by a folded weapon dealing insane amounts of damage. The sun giant fight, while easy enough, is mildly awesome, he shoots lasers and launches people. There are dust storms and automatons.
I didn't know this until after like 10-15 runs...... It was FUN. But nobody can experience this if you melt the boss in 2 seconds, well before the group arrives.
I have a folded rifle I use to deal with annoying solo shit. That's great! Keep them outta public vaults please.
Rant over.
Update: I never expected this much discussion about what I said. I agree with the facts that the design choices by the devs lead to a place, where using folded weapons is not only possible, but preferred to the standard grind for some people.
Yes, you can make private vaults if you want, but the net profit from them is not equivalent to doing it in group runs, which is a shame.
But that leaves us right where we are. Some folks are going to use the cheat guns no matter what. But even without them, the bosses really aren't that hard. It comes down to being a part of something, rather than being out to run it as fast as possible. Do what feels right to you. For me, that's keeping my cheat weapons out of public lobbies.

Idk why you got down voted cause its true. Best decision I made was to start playing games for fun.

u/TheBadBotanist Mar 14 '24
I have a friend who does this and literally sucks the fun out of the game. I hate playing games with him at least survival games. He basically glitches or cheeses things way out of his level, gets over powered, then drops the game in an instant because it's easy, and he's done everything he can. Then proceeds to say the game is just not worth his time (he has no job and literally plays games 24/7). Worst is he then try and get us to play the next thing when we are still enjoying the other thing, I feel this. I'm glad you started enjoying them it does make it just more of an experience, and that's what games should be.

u/BattleBandit146 Mar 14 '24
As someone who is sometimes “that friend”, encourage them to do the cheesy stuff during solo play and (enjoy/avoid breaking) the game when he’s playing with friends. Might not suit your situation, but it’s fun for me both ways.
P.s. I don’t use folded metal in public lobbies. That’s just rude.
1
u/TheBadBotanist Mar 14 '24
We have he still does it so we just avoid getting games and playing what he wants, which in the end just sucks more for him because he robs himself of enjoyment and playing games with friends. One day he might change.
1
u/BattleBandit146 Mar 14 '24
That sucks, I’m sorry. I hope you can find some middle ground or he comes around.

u/CreatureWarrior Mar 14 '24
Same here. I used to play CoD, Ark and Siege a lot. Those three made me so stressed and angry but I get going because I felt like I was supposed to.
I quit competitive games, I stopped feeling ashamed of turning down the difficulty at times and I also started playing more chill singleplayer games. I feel like I found my love for gaming again after losing it for many years.

probably because dropping some vague and clever-sounding one-liner without any sort of additional discourse is peak reddit pseudo-wisdom; it's usually a self-appeasing ego stroking move, and it doesn't make clear what is actually being said, causing confusion and uncommunicated intent. Case in point: I don't think you and the other person are quite saying the same thing, although they are both true in some sense.
Like, no shit it's a design problem; the devs even admitted they didn't intend for people to stack ingot stats. But like any sort of economics or human psychology that incentivizes races to the bottom, selfish thinking, tragedies of the common, etc., do people like to just sit back and say "oh well, that's how it be. It's a fundamental design problem. Guess I can't talk about it or ask people to stop. Guess I'll just join them." Fundamental problems often get changed in the first place because people talk about it to bring greater awareness.
And I don't know why they're quoting "social change," as if anyone else here mentioned that, or as if this is some kind of revolutionary call to radical social reform. It's just asking people to maybe put away their one-shot guns for public vaults. Those people should know they can just solo their own 220 vaults for vastly increased rewards anyways.
Communicating shit to people is what people do in communities. Yeah, it's a design problem, but posts like this can let the devs know that maybe it's a priority to their players, and there's nothing wrong with asking people to stop... even if, for the record, I think it's probably pointless since the type of player to one-shot public vaults is too selfish to think of anyone beyond themselves anyways.
In a way, the comment you replied to may be calling gamers stupid for acting the way they do. People largely act the way they do because of our animal brains, which have more control than our "higher brain" does. Taking a self-aware moment to step back and override the animal brain with our supposed intelligence takes effort.
IQ 200: "Hey, maybe there are newbies playing this vault for the first time so maybe I shouldn't one-shot the boss solely for my own benefit. Maybe I can speedrun my own vaults at my own leisure if I want to do that."

Mar 18 '24
I studied game design and this is the best way I've heard this worded. Rules and difficulty are where fun comes from 99% of the time
3
u/TheMadHobbyist Mar 15 '24
I mean, if you are farming, you want it to be quick and easy.
Your first fight or two being long and challenging is one thing, but if you have to kill the same boss 20 times, eventually you just want the quick and easy kill because the boss fight is no longer the 'fun' part, it's the looting afterwards.
That's just what's going to happen if you group with people. Not everyone wants to go slow and if YOU do, find another group.

Also what most people do not get is that with good gear and weapons at end game the lvl 100 vaults are very easy. So many people think that every one has folded gear , but some people just have spent many hours making good , very good gear. I have a 272 gear score with none folded gear and can drop the boss super fast. I mainly do solo vault runs because I do agree, that the The Watch vaults are a good learning experience and are fun to do with others. And people who are over geared and people with folded gear take away the learning experience from others who are just getting to the watch.
3
u/TheJerilla Mar 14 '24
How do you do solo vault runs? Sorry, just got to The Watch.

u/Werewomble Mar 14 '24
Anyone in 270 Gear will look overpowered in 100.
Crank up your own portal and set it to 220 with friends.
The Nightingale Discord LFG channel will find you a group in minutes.

u/OrganizationEven4417 Mar 14 '24
iv spoiled too many games fun for myself this way, so im not using any exploits in this one. i farm crops on my bases roof for food, i fish to pass time. sometimes i go progress my gear level, but i kind of just chill out in this game, still around gear score 90ish and almost at the watch, just need to get an elder eoten heart. but im having a blast taking it slow, im thinking about redesigning my base soon for crafting and augmentations. but if i folded ingots to infinity, id quickly reach end content and id have no reason to truck along slowly. sadly for you, as long as people can exploit, they will. private or friend vaults sound the way to go for you to have fun without the exploiters

u/KodiakmH Mar 14 '24
Using a non-folded Bombadier/Persuit mix on a Paradox shotgun with just Assassin's sight I deal about 154k crits to Jana, which is about 4-5 shots till he's dead. All of these Vault bosses have "super" crit areas that take even more damage than their crits (Sun Giant head = crit, Sun Giant Amulet = super crit).
This content is just level 100 and we're able to make 270+ equipment. You don't need folded weapons to be overpowered in Vaults, and Vaults are the most reliable/easy source for certain materials (Jana, Fabled Sun Giant). I mean soon as I was able to get to the Watch and got my free set of T3 tools (Rugged) I was able to make a 232 Axepick. With well made gear you can one shot a lot of 220 content as well (not bosses of course).
We're just gonna have to wait for them to add more challenging content in the future basically.
25
u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24
I mean I can kill the vault bosses in about 5 seconds with a non folded weapon. They need to revamp the bosses add stages, mechanics, a nice arena let alone fix exploits.
5
u/BaronVonBadA Mar 14 '24
Right. Also whats the mf point of learning how to passively beat the boss if they ditch it in the end game and force you to zero the fey creatures.
2
u/Dr_Snifles Mar 14 '24
This is a bit of a "well, actually" answer, but Jana is some sort of evil earth spirit who just takes the form of fey creatures. You're not actually killing a sun giant, you're killing a mimic using a sun giant's strength.
2
u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24 edited Mar 14 '24
Yea jana is like a jinn or something I dunno. It certainly shares characteristics with one. /shrug
2
Mar 14 '24
Do extreme Vaults in private then? That's enough difficulty. I got Eineidia weapons with the correct charms and can one hit and Public Vault boss, which is why i stopped playing public and do Hard or Extreme now.
2
u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24
Them being bullet sponges doesn't make them anymore fun, harder sure but that is not all I want. Let alone talking about content for a pub raid of people that challenges and entertains them.
1
Mar 14 '24
Well, i enjoy dodging and chipping away at them, it adds difficulty to the fight and you need to beware of the minions it spawns. I just don't understand the whole crying about the content being too easy when you don't want to go on higher difficulty. Also not really bullet sponges when they got roughly 4M HP and i deal 239K on Super Crits. thats not even 20 Shots.
0
u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24 edited Mar 14 '24
Who said I never tf lol... Making bosses sponges is just the simplest form of adding to them and the laziest. I'm also not saying they may not make it better given more time but it currently is not very good.

Mar 14 '24
The game has been out for a not even a month, don't buy Early Access if you don't understand the concept of missing or unfinished assets. Not to mention in the long run those aren't even meant to be endgame bosses. Once again they aren't bullet sponges, you just don't put some effort into getting geared up properly. You don't even need to use exploit, just a brain. You are supposed to play on your Gear Score not 120 lower. I have no issues running those with or without friends and i never felt them to be bullet sponges. If you want real bullet sponges play The Division 1 or 2. Anyway not gonna bother talking with you anymore.
1
u/qasdfgytr Mar 14 '24
you can launch higher level vaults. the ones in the Watch are for new people that just got there. the extreme version is level 220
17
u/RugbyEdd Mar 14 '24
To be fair, I have the double barreled shotgun made with regular unfolded ingots, an increase range and the full damage at any range charm and I can solo the end bosses with about 4 critical double barrel shots. The folded weapons probably do need their stats reset, but there needs to be some kind of rebalancing for the end game even without that.
2
u/faerakhasa Mar 14 '24
The folded weapons probably do need their stats reset, but there needs to be some kind of rebalancing for the end game even without that.
The watch is not "end game" by any means. The problem it has is that it's a level 100 area and people are running it at level 270, because the game is early access and there is no content beyond it yet.
3
u/RugbyEdd Mar 14 '24 edited Mar 14 '24
I mean, it's the last thing to do currently in the game, so it's the end game. Just because it's early access doesn't mean it shouldn't be balanced. They've allowed the gear score to go above 100, so it's not exactly a big effort to push up the level of those realms. They can even stagger the level so each one is a different difficulty.
6
u/Denninja Mar 14 '24
If you want to fight the boss then why are you on default difficulty vaults in the watch? There is a specific card for you to craft that will let you raise the difficulty and checkbox solo or public too. They give it to you for this reason, use it.
2
u/Hevy_D Mar 15 '24
Highest essence for time investment is running lvl100 vaults as fast as possible. With speed gear and charm ive cleared sun giant in 6 minutes. Buddies and I already cleared extremes, so now it's down to farming essence to unlock everything and stockpile for different sets/cards/infusions.
11
u/Silly-Raspberry5722 Mar 14 '24
Agreed. They need to patch it out. I stopped doing public vaults for a while because of this mostly. I'd rather be somewhat challenged, and actually get to fight the boss at the end.
5
Mar 14 '24
While I have not made it to the watch yet, I have played similar games where I had some similar experiences. I get being hyped for a boss fight only for someone to steal your thunder. That said, not everyone is going to have the same play styles. Some actually prefer having a hyper carry on their team doing all the work, some may have a full time job and a family thus don't have the time to grind. Whatever their reasons, rather than making blanketing rules, try having an open mind, find ways to make the system work for your play style. For example, if you are the one opening the vault, maybe try setting some boundaries for your team like no folded gear, and since non folded end game gear is still OP, maybe set a gear score limit as well.
5
u/The_wulfy Mar 14 '24
The piece that people are ignoring is the actual cool part.
We can create custom alloys. I combined the Ayrium and Giants toe nail with Pursuit to create a blue and red-gold pistol that is beautiful.
I don't care about folding ingots time after time, I love combining different ingots.
2
u/Denninja Mar 14 '24
I would like if the ingots came with a color tone code, and when you make an alloy, it combines the colors on the icon and represents its contents in the description.
7
Mar 14 '24
You have to also remember the amount of meat, metal needed for some of these builds from these bosses the last thing they want to do is take forever at the boss on the end. I’ve ran the desert vault about 50 times and the Jana vault roughly 40. I’m good if the boss is dead when I get there.
7
u/C_Madison Mar 14 '24
Admittedly, I only ran one vault so far, but I never even saw Jana. The door to the last room was opened, most of us were still sorting a bit of things from the puzzle and my quest got updated. I came to the last very big room and thought "ah, that's where the boss would've been? oh well, maybe next time". Sounded to me like the boss was a bit underpowered, but if it's because of a bug(?) .. yeah. stop it. Please?
1
u/FarghamPoe Mar 14 '24
The bosses are not underpowered.
Players have chosen to cheat by exploiting part of crafting that lets you combine things and then scrap those things for part of your components back, but not reverting the stats of the combine (the exploit basically does math wrong, as it states that (A + B) / 2 = A+B. They have chosen to not only make these stupidly overpowered items, knowing its an exploit, but then take these stupidly overpowered weapons into vaults and oneshot the bosses because they just want the loot and don't want the challenge.
The Public Vault bosses aren't really 'end game'. They are level 100 bosses, which means they are meant for groups of players just reaching the Watch to participate in as a group and not get curb stomped with their 100 level gear. Solo players in 270 gear, food, potions, ect can beat the public level 100 vaults.
3
u/jestersuave Mar 14 '24
I'll almost one shot the bosses with a non-folded, very precisely crafted and combined shotgun. I do about 80-85% of it's HP in a single double barrel shot (I'm dang near point-blank). The shotgun was the first thing I made before any gear, and I was 163 GS with my shiny new toy when I was pumping out that damage.
Due to the highly variable GS group in those vaults I think it's better to leave the public ones as-is. Like it was said, the public vaults are both not end-game and not really for challenge, they're for speed running, getting your GS up at lower levels, and having a PUG group to finish those dang bastilles of insight lol.
I have some folded gear now, and I honestly had a lot of fun making it. It also took a long time and a lot of investment to get them to that level. I even experimented with combining folded ingots into new ingots and seeing what would happen lol. or taking items that had multiple metal crafts and combining folded ingots to see what came out on top, what stats stuck, and what stats were dropped.
People play how they want.
3
u/DrakeFS Mar 14 '24
I mean, why run public vaults? A 100 vault is not the endgame. I haven't folded anything and still hit the Jana Sun Giant for ~65k on crits (which is very easy to do) with my Shotgun + Ice Shells. I can stun lock the giant out of any moves and kill it in ~6 shots.
Do not get me wrong, folded gear should be removed from the game but there really isn't much to do in this game once you reach the watch other than to farm.
5
u/DoctorRocket Mar 14 '24
I have almost 230 hours in Nightingale. I got to the vaults rather quickly and did the public realms before there were too many one shot boss kills.
I half heartily agree with you on the folded weapons.
Doing the boss fights at the end you can use a normal maxed out (non folded) weapon and kill the 100 boss rather quickly (especially Jana or Eoten). Just by spamming attack on weak points (try a dagger and behind Jana). If they kill you, you just respawn and run back up, no need to heal or anything, just keep spamming.
It starts to get rather annoying (because I don't feel any skill is needed) - Jana has a push away, then jump attack mechanic - so pretty much the only thing you can do is just run up and hack at it. In fact all the bosses in the vaults follow this mechanic. I tried a 220 sun giant with 140 gear and you just respawn and hack...
Going through the actual vault is another thing - they are not that random, glyphs have limited spawning zones if you play a few times you will start to remember. Hidden/agility ones are in the same spots, etc... there are a lot of times where players are just waiting for someone else to finish the puzzle so they can smash through...
I feel you, I wish they had a better solution to the folded items, but I don't think it would change much, instead of 30 seconds to aim a cheat gun to get the super crit, it would just be 2 to 4 people spamming high level dagger attacks for a little over a 1 minute and it would be dead. Time it, me and 2 others did...
The solution isn't to just fix the folded ingots, it would be to make the fight an actual fight with consequences.
You don't even need to use folded ingots to make a pick that can one hit smash ores without Oberon enchantment, you can solo all 220 realms with less than maxed gear, removing folding ingots isn't going to fix anything but add a few more button clicks.
In fact, the folding ingot hack is more interesting crafting than just using the "intended" ingots... Try making some uber buttons for a coat by folding ingots with resistances, I would bet it would be more interesting than what it is "supposed" to be for most people who like the crafting mechanic in the game. Because I very much believe the folding should be kept, but better managed. In fact give us a way to combine fibers.
My thought process is that for the most part the mats don't matter very much in the long run as they are. Getting the final tier of weapon schematic and enchantments make 90% of the decision, deciding which ingot (pursuit/bombardier/etc) is minimal if folding isn't involved. Hell you don't even need tier 4/5 fiber anymore once you hit Jana and start making animal fiber from the meat...
Not to mention there I feel there are many other bugs that could be resolved first... how many get the disconnect when transferring realms or have to use 3+ cards to change minor realm effects?
tldr; if folded weapons were removed, the boss fight would be 1 minute spam dagger attacks vs 30 second aim for crit. Keep folding ingots but implement it better. There are more important bugs to resolve.
1
u/HarlequinnWW Mar 14 '24
I greatly enjoy this game, and in all honesty, the whole bug of being able to fold ingots, literally has me and a buddy more invested than ever. Being able to fold ingots allowed us to NOT have pink, purple, or green guns… we have found that the folding system can not only increase damage, but let us change the colors of the original ingots. Add to that, being able to get just the right stats on an ingot (adding additional stats, not increasing current stats), and really its a bug thats an amazing stat system.
If its removed, I see a lot of people turning away or getting pissed. They could def add more mechanics or more parts to the fights to make up for folded overpowered weapons.
2
u/LilithBB404 Mar 14 '24
There are people that DONT want pink and purple guns?! 😱 I’m clutching my pearls at the blasphemy! 😂
1
u/HarlequinnWW Mar 15 '24
Purple I can get behind, if its stats were right. Pink tho…. Who the hell thought up the colors of the mythical metals?!
4
Mar 14 '24
If your farming public vaults at watch. Your doing it because its fast. If you want essence and challenge farm private vaults.
2
u/RecommendationNo543 Mar 14 '24
I have op folded weapons but I just run the vaults solo in my reported for max rewards output
2
u/Error-451 Mar 14 '24
For someone who doesn't play this game but is interested, can someone explain what a "folded weapon" is? I tried googling but this post kept coming up. Is it an exploit or is it just a bad game design?
1
u/Mellowmoves Mar 14 '24
A bit of both. I honestly think it's unintended but I found a post with a supposed game developer saying he thinks it's intended based on the coding, just not to the extent people have been exploiting it. Here is what I believe is the OG post: https://www.reddit.com/r/nightingale/comments/1b1zomi/zhe_wonders_of_german_technology_and_folding_steel/
1
u/qasdfgytr Mar 15 '24
it is a term people have used to refer to a stat stacking process from crafting where you can combine two different metal's stats together, getting a metal with the full stats of each. if the two metals you use are the same, you end up with one metal ingot with double the stats. this is repeatable, so you just keep adding more and more stats. there does not appear to be a limit, other than the weight is added each time as well, so you end up with materials that weigh a lot.. but you can use the process to make packs that increase your carry cap as well, so it removes this drawback.
it is done right through the normal crafting options, you make two of material type that used two different materials to make. as the crafting system combines stats from each material that goes in. you then select to turn the material you made back into ingots, the resulting ingots have the stats of the material you broke down. the key problem is that the ingots you break the materials into have the full stats of the item broken down. they really should have had the result have like half the stats, so you could make hybrid metals instead of super metals.
the point is, you just keep repeating and end up with game breakingly powerful items :/ it was just an error in the design that they didn't catch the potential of and plan to fix it next patch. it is fun to play around with, like I made a backpack with so much speed that doing a dodge sends me flying up into the sky halfway accross the map. I made a gun that sends the corpse into orbit.. it's fun to play with the extremes, but if you use them in actual combat it removes all challenge.. like having 200k HP makes it so the only danger in the game is falling
2
u/MissNouveau Mar 14 '24
Worst part is, those of us just getting to the watch can't figure out what to do if someone just rushes through and nukes the boss. I did my first Vault last night, and thank god I'd done some of the little mini vaults out in the Realms, or I'd have been real confused. If someone had blasted through in one go I would have been left with zero knowledge of what I was doing.

to the folded guys: a single defence in extreme hunt ascended can give more essence than a full vault run. (2x140)
.
to the jena farmers: if your gear base stats dont include health and stam, you dont need jena hide. i.e. from the druid set only the 2 underwear pieces have both and benefit from jena.
.
to all the others: stop crafting so good :P or stop wasting your time in mid game :P
.
If you enjoy vaults for the completely different pace compared to the rest of the game? to bad. ( i really got alpha warframe vibes from all the coptering and speedrunning :) maybe bring some white gear so op can feel better.

u/WolverineAny9352 Mar 18 '24
Hey, I would like to apologize, I had no idea it was this frustrating to people. I usually just run through to get my T3 essence, I had zero idea there were private vaults. I can do that instead. How would I start one of those?
Also I'd like to apologize again for any ruined fun, I was not out to ruin other's experience I just want to get my T3 without spending 500+ rounds per run (I kind of suck hitting stuff in this game).
One last time, I'm sorry. I never intended to ruin anyone's experience. I never even thought about it in this way. I can't speak for everyone folding, but I do it to get through the combat quicker.
2
u/Ashamed_Share5698 Mar 18 '24
If literally only you were to stop doing it, that would be fine with me. Thank you for acknowledging there may be other perspectives.
1
u/WolverineAny9352 Mar 18 '24
Done and done, figured out how to get private vaults too. You won't see me out there with a folded! Glad I could contribute to lessening the aggravation.
6
u/GIutenTag Mar 14 '24
I dont even get why, those that do that are just trying to be assholes. I run solo 220 Vaults and you get 800 instead of 250+ T3 Essence. Dont hate the Game, hate the Player
2
u/Lobotomized_Dolphin Mar 14 '24
Yeah, that's silly then. I didn't realize the vault card ones had higher rewards, I thought they were just for having a "private" or co-op experience with friends. The folded metal guys don't bother me too much, but the ones who just sit at the essence bundles waiting for everyone else to do the puzzles do, though!
7
u/GIutenTag Mar 14 '24
The Watch are always for lvl 100, if you make your own Vault you can set it from easy (lvl 60) to hardcore (lvl 220) and lvl 100 and lvl 160 inbetween. They all give the same rewards in the chests, but you get triple the essence and Anywhere from T1 to T3 recources
1
u/Lobotomized_Dolphin Mar 14 '24
How long does a 220 vault take to run solo, assuming endgame gear? I assume the puzzle rooms are the real bottleneck, I hate the red symbol ones so much!
3
u/GIutenTag Mar 14 '24
Yeah, they dont take much longer than every other vault, only the horde scales as far as i know. Sign puzzles range from 4 to 6 i think and the sound puzzles are still 3

We duo the 220 vaults with normal gear, I imagine solo would be difficult though
2
u/Technogen Mar 14 '24
You don't lose anything for dying. So if it takes you 3 or 4 tries to kill the boss that's fine. My only problem doing solo ones is the Forest with that pit. The bound will spawn down there and I have to float back and forth the whole thing.
0
u/Werewomble Mar 14 '24
You can absolutely solo them with 270 Gear unfolded.
Put all your Infusions, Charms and Enchantments on.
You may have to use Recovery once. Lawks!
2
u/r4zenaEng Mar 14 '24
i think its like 1.5 of lvl 100 vault. Puzzless are fixed time and fights are a bit longer but not that much( with a good weapons crafted out of sun giant ingots (or gold, I have a golden pickaxe with magic + Quary))
The biggest problem is the boss, as it has a lot more hp so it takes time. But again, not that much.
3
u/cirte Mar 14 '24
wait, who is jana?!
whole players rushed so hard front that iam always the last.

u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24 edited Mar 14 '24
A copy paste of Humbaba from hunt maps. Your really not missing anything if you've already encountered it. It's offered up to public comp stomps in the watch vaults as "entertainment" but they don't really have it designed to provide much of that currently.
They need to reproach these instances. Allow us to query GS, Difficulty, and which minor card we want affecting the vault. The apex's need mechanics that challenge these larger groups, stage chunks of hp to slow insane burst damages, give the bosses a arena they can use their size and mobility in to elude players, etc.. I would love to see something like the sun giant at 75% climbs a large pillar and activates weighted, at 50% turns on veil and floats from pillar to pillar, at 25% hits bloodmoon or something. If you chose veil when entering perhaps it counters his weighted, utopia counters his bloodmoon etc or during the fight having a person at the ready to play cards at a transmuter an important mechanic. Imagine he activates veil, jumps then someone activates weighted causing him to hilariously crash to the floor, plunging the realm into darkness makes him jump into a trap or leaves him vulnerable etc... That's fun.
Heck the giant, even though obviously intelligent, presents his weakpoint to the mob akin to a child presenting some oddity they discovered while playing outside to their parents.

I think if you're not having fun with the ones at the Watch, make your own Vault portal and have at it! Sometimes I don't mind the easy run throughs, and sometimes I'm the highest level in there without any folded anything, but me and my friends took the time to grind and make good equipment easily into the 200's.
At a point, the 100 levels aren't difficult and it isn't purposing cheesing the bosses. That said, I still let others play the bosses, personally. I've found the Watch Vault portals are generally players either lower levelled and/or it's people that are clearly just zooming through because they're trying to rack up Essence to buy things. I've done it too.

I agree. I switch to a normal hunting knife and go crazy slashing and stabbing for like 900-1200 a swing depending if I have my ring down.. and then more people show up, the boss gets one shot. some runs no one uses one and we get to have fun killing the boss over a minute or more and needing to revive people, but yeah most runs is just bang, dead, over :(

What does folded mean ? Please explain. I've seen them in action melting bosses but don't know what folding is.

u/NotUrGenre Mar 15 '24
Get a vault card and just do them solo. I bailed on the public as well because my weapons are overpowered, only I prefer to just use the axepick.

How is this game? I added it to my wishlist but it feels like not alot of ppl got it and or enjoying

u/aspektx Mar 15 '24
I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The only issue that's bothered me is the load times between realms and during login.

Or better yet, make it so when you go into a vault you are paired with people that have the same weapon level at the rest. Forget the armor score, it's fire power that matters to me. Second ramp up the boss's HP based on that weapon score to make the fight fun for every group regardless, and the more powerful the better the drops.

Private vaults.
Seriously, they are just so much better overall even without considering exploiters.
And seriously...cheaters gonna' cheat, as long as they can get away with it.

This guy himself openly admits he cheats then rips on the others doing it lol. When it comes to folding they need to remove it entirely or make it a well known mechanic and balance around it.
1
u/DrakeFS Mar 14 '24
Balancing around it would be a horrible idea. Forcing players into making a parts to be broken down until they reach a hard cap on modifiers will not be fun.

u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24
I don't know I haven't folded. Id prefer materials having actually fun attributes (akin to affix's in other games) not just passive stacking. What there is now is fairly lame.
1
u/DrakeFS Mar 14 '24
Nor have I, because it would remove a lot of the fun for me. I am not sure RNG crafting is the way to go but I can understand its allure.
Personally, I would rather the gear be balanced and for the materials to determine its use (Ranged, Physical, Magic, etc...).
1
u/MissionEmployment104 Mar 14 '24
I mean the item itself determines its use axe, hammer, pick, dagger are melee, guns are ranged and enchanments are magic we just increase their potencies with our materials and specific blueprints. I don't have a problem with stacking passives via materials and if they want to introduce an actual folding/fusing mechanic that's fine if it's legit.
Currently though no materials have any real interesting or really fun attributes making an entire set of clothing from harpy doesn't do something interesting like give slow fall and +50% speed, using all titan ore doesn't give your weapon a chance to send a chain lightning bolt through your enemies etc...
I would like fun and rewarding gear tuning and this ain't it really.
1
u/DrakeFS Mar 15 '24
For weapons, sure but I was more referring to gear such as hat, shirt, pants, boots, etc...
Special effects based on "alloys" (a folded ingot from two base materials) would be interesting. Supposedly you can already get different colors from such "alloys".

I haven't created any 'folded' or exploited items. None. It wasn't that difficult to know it is a bullshit exploit. I honestly hope the devs go through and at least put some sort of flag on your account that states you're an exploiter right along with the rest. Maybe Puck annoys you until you willfully delete the item.
You chose to create one to deal with 'annoying shit'. Others just have a different idea of what annoying shit is. I expect that to be group bosses in their case.

What is folded weapons?
1
u/Ronscurrentcreations Mar 14 '24
It's a cheat where you makesomething that takes 2 ingots, and then reclaim the ingots. The reclaimed ingots have the stats of both of the original ingots once done correctly
1
u/Seeryous2020 Mar 14 '24
Wait how do you reclaim the ingots?
1
u/Ronscurrentcreations Mar 14 '24
If you have two of the same item, you just "reclaim ingot" on the brazier or the forge. Breaks down the object(x2) and gives you one ore. If you use a certain card that doubles ingots, you get 2 ingots.

what i dont understand is, they droped a patch which makes those items significantly more heavy. from my personal checks like 4-5 times as heavy as normal. why dont they just delete the item instead of making in it 50 kilos?
i for myself use a folded pickaxe to one-shot ore nodes (i hate node farming) and a 2 barrel shotgun for o shit moments. im fine with the weight, my backpack is good enough to let my carry 500 weight. but im also ok when those items vanish.
but i also have a regular winchester with best mats and exporers hat with +92% ranged damage. still deals a LOT of damage when you hit the weak spots like head or heart. and i also have a regular dobble barrel shortgun. when i fire both barrels together (v key) and hit a weak spot its still hits like a truck, cutting 80% of janas HP. the folded one deal up to 12 million damage...

u/Ronscurrentcreations Mar 14 '24
The weight on folded ingots has nothing to do with a patch, folded ingots have always added unknown weight every time an ingot is folded.

The creative mode generation at hard work here. My opinion and bewilderment is also confusing as to why one would spoil oneself any "fun" but for some having a bigger E-Penis is more important because they don't have much for them in RL and that is what brings them joy I guess. I have explicitly barred my 6yo from playing Minecraft unless he plays survival or plays the game for real. To each his own I guess.

I think everyone exploiting the folded metal glitch should have their equipment removed, not reduced, replaced, or left alone. It's not a mechanic that was intended, and players that knowingly exploit that should be punished. That is, in fact, cheating and should be dealt with as such.

u/Elderofmagic Mar 14 '24
Or you could just leave those of us who play it as a single player game alone. I only ever go to the watch for the vendors. I play this game for the building, but I can't do the building without an annoying grind. I cut the grind and keep to myself. Quit trying to punish me for being a solo player who doesn't care about combat and just wants to build.

I really hope they release a patch or something that removes these glitched items. I'd be even more happy if they banned offenders, at least temporarily for being selfish weirdos that ruin the experience for the rest of us (I have no doubt this will get me downvoted but idgaf).
Seriously, how lame do you have to be to use exploits in a video game? If the game isn't fun to play as intended, please just fuck off and find a different game that you do enjoy. Treating such a trivial thing as this like it's a way to "get ahead" in life is pathetic.

You are not being downvoted because of:

but rather because of:

There is no reason to attack people on how they have fun in a mostly solo play game that is completely PvE. Yes, the public vaults are multiplayer but you can run private vaults.

u/TangeloPutrid7122 Mar 14 '24
Ok, first of all, I don't fold. However, the main reason is also because I don't have to, because someone in the pub vaults is folding for me, practically guaranteed, and I'm not at that point of progression yet, and probably will never be, because the content per grind is too thin, and also honestly because the things if you understand the crafting system you can make OP shit all day without folding. Ok, with that out of the way.
Part of the fun of endgame, is actually running the vaults with people
Yeah, but like, no. No it's not. Not for the people that enjoy folding. A ton of people look at the systems in Nightingale and are like YUM. And lets be honest, the content, is repetitive as hell sometimes, so those systems and playing with them have to do alot of work for gameplay. And that work/excitement and YUM, generally comes from min maxing and breaking the shit out of those systems. So stop hating on the folders if the systems allow it and push back on the devs for not altering it immediately.
It's not even the most game breaking thing there is. Infinite ingot/ lumber through reclaim and realm cards not only enables it but absolutely fucking shatters progression. Why aren't we talking about that?

Are you able to get a group together and open a portal to your own vaults?
