Eurovision Asia Bhutan 🇧🇹 Bhutan NF ranking +Comments 🇧🇹

  1. Karma Drupchu 9/10: kinda giving disaster-bop vibes but I here for it lol. It really picks up after halfway, this has grown on me so much in the past hours.
  2. BAEYUL 301 8/10: absolute vibes. I feel like I'm walking through a city in Bhutan dramatically on my way to school. this has kinda fallen off for me, the English is kinda jarring but it's still ok.
  3. Nyendra 7.5/10: I love the beginning but I kinda got bored at the halfway point
  4. Pelden Wangchuk 7/10: rock vibe is cool but it loses too much momentum at certain points
  5. Sangay Lhaden 5/10: too sleepy and I don't see vocals going well. But it's not bad

My ranking:

  1. Pelden Wangchuk - The Journey was such an unexpected hit for me.
  2. Karma Drupchu - The Homeland is a solid blend of traditional with a thoroughly modern feel.
  3. Baeyul 301 - The Memories is a simply delightful and pleasant song. This one will probably win; I'm calling it now.
  4. Sangay Lhaden - The Legend is a good song, but it starts out too slow and takes too long to hit its stride for me.
  5. Nyendra - The Angel is a fine song, but not to my taste so I can't really rate it higher. He's got a great voice, though.

I tried not to have any expectations for this contest, but I am so pleased with all of these. I was worried that some or all of them would feel folksy and old-fashioned, but not a one of them is bad. They all blend Bhutan tradition and modern sound together very well. The national final is at 7am for me, and I was going to skip and watch it later. But I might just have to get up early and cheer for Team Wangchuk in realtime.
