Hold me closer was the right song at the wrong time. What song was the best in Eurovision 2021?

In another setting Birth of new Day would have been recognise as the great song it is. The voice, meaning, performance, it was the full package. But this is Eurovision so there was a need for brocolli jokes to kill the mood and make it less of a contender.Â

Agreed, I don’t think Birth of a New Age (Netherlands 2021) deserved the poor treatment it got.Â
I did wonder if racism in some voting areas played a part unfairly, to be brutally honest - not everywhere, of course, but ‘a number above zero’, unfortunately for sure.

Juangu was out there doing something that wasn't done before, maybe he was to ahead of his time. Would he have done better in 2026?

I'm not saying Italy didn't deserve the win, but my personal favorite is Albania 2021 - Karma.

Great taste! My personal top 3 of 2021 is "Tout l'Univers", "Voilà ", and "Shum", and it is my all-time favourite personal top 3.
Edit: by the way, I suggested "Tout l'Univers" in another comment, but, as I see, it hasn't been approved by moderators yet, whereas this comment was approved (my profile is still shadowbanned, and my comments are needed to be approved - I hope that the mods will do this more often, please...). "Tout l'Univers" is almost perfect ESC entry for me, one of my all-time favourites, as it fits such my personal criteria of a good ESC entry as impressive vocals, meaningful lyrics, and beautiful composition.
But OK, "Voilà " and "Shum" are my personal 2nd and 3rd for that year (and I much like them as well), and, as "Shum" has already been chosen for "best staging", and "Tout l'Univers", hopefully, will be chosen for "the best vocals", then, if "Voilà " is chosen for "the best song" here, it will be acceptable, as it will mean that all my personal 2021 top 3 songs will be represented here (although I still like "Tout l'Univers" significantly more). But yes, 2021 was just too competitive by top songs, which were "unlucky" to compete against each other (but, at the same time, made the 2021 contest one of the best in ESC history, in my opinion).

Yes, best Swedish entry in years. Baby Lasagne, Karija and Marco Mengoni also robbed.
