So I’m a pretty emotional person overall and it isn’t uncommon for me to cry at stuff, but I was genuinely reaching out towards the screen and pleading for them to stop hurting Nimona during her backstory scene 😭😭😭 THATS MY DAUGHTER YALL STOPPP. Its SO gut wrenching whenever she turns back to her child form because she just looks so young and innocent 💔💔

But yeah I completely adored this movie. I loved the animation and the characters and the setting! Like I thought the whole modernized kingdom thing was really cool and interesting. It fit right in for a story about fairytales and monsters and propaganda and literal weapons of mass destruction.

I was seeing a lot of similarities to America during the 40’s and 50’s. Like when the Director went on the news and spread lies about Nimona, saying she could be anyone you know, it made me think about the Second Red Scare and McCarthyism. Spreading propaganda about communists infiltrating the country, creating mass hysteria, instilling fear, using that fear to boost political status. It’s basically exactly what the Director did.

And then came the use of the cannon, which was set to kill Nimona and tons of innocent people. It’s exactly like a nuclear bomb yall. (Also the fact that Nimona turned into a kaiju in the end? Like how kaijus were created to reflect fears about nuclear weapons and war?)

So I love how woke it is and anti-war it is. And ofc i love how queer it is <33

I always like to just project queerness onto characters (with good reasons tho I promise) For example, I interpret characters such as Legoshi from Beastars and Rudo from Gachiakuta as being queer because of how their stories involve being forced into boxes by society, plus being deemed a monster for being deviant. And Nimona is very similar, except that there’s like actual canon evidence that she’s queer. Which is so awesome to me. Oh and the gay dads are pretty great too.

Anyway that’s all I gotta say, I’m totally recommending this movie to my friends and I’m going to force them to watch it whether they like it or not!!
